- Few production vehicles are as iconic as the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. Despite its age, Mercedes continues to attract celebrities and very wealthy clients into its showrooms. While an all-new G-Class is coming at the end of this year, the current model still has the looks, prestige, off capability, and refinement to go toe to toe with the best luxury SUV's money can buy. Just be sure you don't actually need to carry too many people in the back seat or need something that actually gets over 20 MPG on the highway.

The 2013-2018 exterior looks so much better then the 2019
interior is pretty updated imo. consider this thing is 40 years old. I'd love to own one, but can't afford it. If apocalypses come, this or any G-Wagon would be the truck to be in.

To be honest, this car is a car that you would BUY for fun and for joy. Not for daily duty. Yes to prove my point, the materials aren't as lovely as other MB products, some old school features like no push button start on this particular model, no auto up windows, only down, no smart key access, and no felt lined glove box. But overall, if I had the money, I would DEFINITELY buy this car no matter what because of how much fun it is to drive

The new one's interior is vastly improved from this one.
There’s something about the old school flare that reassures you that this truck is capable, solid and dependable. Who needs smart entry anyway?? It doesn’t always respond to the key fob even when you try to start it up. I’d prefer it if a lot of manufacturers would retain at least one model throughout their lineup kept this traditional approach.

I’m curious to know what the crash test rating on this thing would be! The technology is so old have they kept up with the crash test requirements?
6* front crash rating. When they tested it, it went straight through the test wall with only a small scratch.
The body itself is strong, but like other SUV’s the unsafe thing about it is the rollover risk. It’s not aerodynamic at all and when I drove a G63, I could feel the terrible body roll.

We're working on it! Chevy says they are getting some new cars into out local fleet soon and we've requested a Z06 or ZR1.
Redline Reviews the ZR1 is essentially just a Z06 with a larger supercharger and a spoiler in my eyes with insane dealer markups. Z06 is a better bargain in my opinion.
Expensive icon of mediocrity. No, given the choice (wealth considered), I think I'd take a Grand Cherokee Overland or a SRT-Trackhawk for fun over this. At around $128k starting price, it's laughable to think of this as anything more than a city car since taking it off-road or long highway trips is just a waste of money at it's finest.

This review is couple years too late. The new 2018 G-wagon is 10 times better.
A banner for excess and conspicuous consumption but it will offroad on trails that no other vehicle can and its stupid fast. Its also made by the same company that makes the famous Austrian space age rifle. Though completely politically incorrect, what could be cooler than that? The new one adds a little refinement but its still just as inappropriate and ridiculous. I would never buy one but Id love to take one for a spin in a jungle somewhere.
