As funny as it’s been to make fun of Dillon Brooks, and it definitely has been funny, they are 100% trying to use him as the scapegoat. The entire Grizzlies team chirps. In fact, their culture of being unlikable started last season. It wasn’t Dillon Brooks saying that the Grizzlies live rent free in the Warriors head. It also wasn’t Dillion Brooks that exposed on IG that rhey posted the Draymond Green quote in the locker room on them getting their “reality check.” It also wasn’t Dillion Brooks that said that he is “fine in the west!” Also, last time I checked, Dillon Brooks wasn’t the only one on that team that got blown out by 40 points in an elimination game. He was just the easy one to cut bait with and throw under the bus as he had the spotlight on him in the last few weeks, however, their entire culture is the problem. I really feel bad for him. I remember when the Grizz faced the Jazz 2 years ago and he looked really good from the mid range. I think he averaged over 20 in that series
But what was he not doing? Talking. The moment he started talking he got worse. He also ad that injury which required surgery. And he has never been the same since.
@@808bboarder He was always this type of player 😭😂. He only just started to get the public hate after he went at Goat James . Remember he was the one that went at Shannon as well?
I'm with Reggie Miller on this. Brooks made a clever attempt to lure LeBron into trying to scoring 40 on him and thereby leave the game plan outline for the team. Some players are easily tricked into being top scorer and score 40+, but detrimental to the team. LeBron, on the other hand, was too experienced and didn't fall for it. There is no reason to throw Brooks under the bus because he made a clever move that didn' pan out.
@@genehawk341 I stand by my analysis. His clever goading did not work, but it was an honest attempt to make LeBron abandon their game plan and transform into a high-volume scorer. I am sure you would think differently, had DB's strategy been successful.
Memphis are getting rid of Brooks not to get better, but to fix their image. There was a time when people actually rooted for them, and they started chirping despite not winning anything. Then the entire fan base turned against them just like with Phoenix. On top of that Dillon Brooks also played dirty and the fans definitely don't like that. But even with all that there's no reason to use the term 'under any circumstances' when letting go a player. I also agree that Ja is a much bigger problem, they actually played better without him.
It’s to get better. We tried to trade him at the deadline to get better. And also the fans never turned on the team. Stop speaking from the outside bro
They weren't even gonna be able to keep him anyways, even before the Lakers series. Houston made sure of that. No way Memphis would have offered him that amount. Either way.

I don’t agree with Shannon take on the subject but I can respect him for not kicking Dillion while he’s down. A real man unlike a lot of other people. Coming from a Memphis fan
I wholeheartedly agree with Shannon. Dillion is a small part of a much bigger problem with the Grizzlies. They have WAY too much talent to underperform and not meet expectations as much they did. Now, Dillion’s smack talk and fouls didn’t help either but they weren’t the only reason the Grizzlies lost to the Lakers.

(You guys are the ones that nonstop hated on him)
@@camm424 I don't think Shannon was ever hating on the Grizzlies, it was the stuff that some of their players were doing that was an issue with him. For Dillion, you can't do the things you're doing and not have the accolades to back them up. His only accolades to this point was I think having the 7th highest number of personal fouls and number 1 for technical fouls this season. He is no scrub by any means, but having this many fouls doesn't help your team at all. But again, he wasn't the only reason they lost. The team has WAY bigger problems than just him.
@cam brooks isn't the reason you guys lost but he sure contributed by giving the lakers more motivation. That being said, EVERY player is subject to Shanghai taunts when they stink it up in the playoffs. Memphis front office has made a lot of poor choices in letting the culture get this way but look really bad letting this leak out. No matter how bad you want someone gone in pro sports you don't say something like that. It burns trust and no free agent is going to ignore something like that.
To keep a different perspective, Brooks really popped off at Oregon. Not saying it translates to the NBA, but he was at one time a pretty decent scorer. If he gets on another team who knows what could happen.
Dillion brooks was the only reason I watched the series between the lakers and the grizzlies…This was the drama that was needed for the playoffs. Every playoffs needs that guy who brings in the antics, it’s part of the entertainment of the playoffs. But it seems like people don’t understand that, and he is an asset to the team as a matter of fact, not a liability. The team itself just isn’t ready for playoffs wins. Especially without the big man in the middle. It’s a bit of a stretch trying to fire him. I don’t see anything extra of what he did other than make comments at lebron. If “he’s old” and “I need someone to give me forty” is worthy of someone getting fired in the NBA then the NBA better watch their backs for additional decline in viewership. Cause he didn’t even do anything out of line.
Props to Shannon. He still sat up there and defended Brooks despite their public spat. Very mature. I'm not gonna completely absolve Brooks because he kinda brought this on himself. However, he was NOT the biggest problem with the Grizzlies. Their biggest problem was the culture they allowed to exist in their franchise, especially when it came to their star player. I sincerely hope that Brooks gets signed because his defensive ability in an asset. However, he really needs to do some self-reflecting and improve his game.

They should have just offered a low ball offer and let him refuse, he deserves better after being with the team for years and he is still young, can't tell me he don't help you for the minimum salary
I learned young the best players on the team could get away with more than others. We also learned if you were expendable you don't put a target on your back you shut up and play your role. He got what was coming imo.
On one hand, I agree with Shannon, it feels like they're using him as a scapegoat but we also have to be fair and remember we only know what we know. There's no telling if they told Brooks to scale it back on multiple occasions, there's no telling if anything else has transpired during the negotiations, if he acted out if he didn't get offered what he felt like he deserved. Would that be hard to believe either? No. So I wouldn't be quick to jump to any conclusions.
If you’re not a perennial all star or all nba player don’t turn down the extension. Crazy part is Dillon average 14 pts which is solid if he gets his rebound up he Will definitely help another team out
I agree, but you heard the comments he made about there being "more" to his offensive game. Dude's clearly not content with just being a role player/4th option on a contender. He thinks he's a 2nd or 3rd scorer, which nobody agrees with. Free agency will humble him this offseason imo.

It also wasn’t Dillion Brooks that exposed on IG that rhey posted the Draymond Green quote in the locker room on them getting their “reality check.” It also wasn’t Dillion Brooks that said that he is “fine in the west!”
Also, last time I checked, Dillon Brooks wasn’t the only one on that team that got blown out by 40 points in an elimination game.
He was just the easy one to cut bait with and throw under the bus as he had the spotlight on him in the last few weeks, however, their entire culture is the problem. So scapegoating one guy is not cool.
