  • This lecture discusses the solution of some numerical based on working of the centrifugal pump.
A Centrifugal pump is a hydraulic machine which converts mechanical energy into hydraulic energy by the use of centrifugal force acting on the fluid.
These are the most popular and commonly used type of pumps for the transfer of fluids from a low level to a high level.
It is used in places like agriculture, municipal (water and wastewater plants), industry, power plants, etc.
A centrifugal pump works on the principle of forced vortex flow which states that when a certain mass of fluid is rotated by an external source of energy, it is thrown away from the central axis of rotation and a centrifugal head is impressed which enables it to rise to a higher level.
It is a centrifugal force acting on the fluid that makes it flow within the casing.
hence, such pumps are known as centrifugal pumps.
(This playlist of Centrifugal Pumps covers the following topics: General classification of pumps, Centrifugal pumps- Classification, theory working, Selection of pumps, Centrifugal head, Work done by impeller, Heads and efficiencies, minimum starting speed, Cavitation in centrifugal pumps).
