Since when did the Boomtown Rats sound like a Welsh male voice choir?... As much as I love Bob Geldof, when did he perfect his scales? Lol! I'm so glad he found a way to harness his creativity to the benefit of millions, but I'd take the school play first everytime! Love this show, and the points they make are totally valid!

Things haven't half changed since this programme was made, especially when it comes to students and politicians.

Well done. As a child of the '60's (born under JFK, but who wasn't), I'd like to apologize to all of the generations of young people who've had to deal with my personal debris field created over the last 50 years and have had to - in some fashion - clean it all up. Keep in mind, my stupidity was not motivated out of malice, but rather for the sake of selfish stupidity itself. I hope you'll forgive me and others of my kind. Good luck explaining your generational sins to those who will ultimately follow you as well. I think you'll find it's the historically cyclical curse of being a human being. Please pardon me now while I piss off.

I'm not a tory voter, but I get annoyed when people slate Thatcher, they all forget that the unions were holding country to ransom, and Britain was in a mess, which was made worse and worse by very socialist leaning Labour governments, it was obvious that the country needed a non Labour government to reverse the mess. I say that as someone who really doesn't agree with Conservative idealogy etc, but it has to be said that a very socialist Labour party, in conjunction with unions and Union leaders having so much power really was a disaster for the country, like it or not Thatcher bought us back from the brink, and yes that change hurt it wasn't easy, but it was needed.

What annoys me is the fact that the english language is soooo rich in colorful swear words but all everone knows (and certainly all the rappers) is F U C K. Come on ... GET CREATIVE!

I have to disagree with the (usual) assumption that things were NOT better in the past. They were.
- You had to actually exercise your brain in school, because it wasn't shown in a nice multimedia presentation and thus HARD to grasp. More exercise for the brain is actually better.
- You had to actually know how to play an instrument if you wanted to become a musician (with the exception of punk). This meant you had to have SKILL which is missing today and will get lost over time because fewer and fewer people will have it.
- The same "loss of skill" is true for our manufacturing skill, because nowadays everything comes in mass-produced numbers from china or other low-wage countries and we have adopted a "throw away and replace" culture.
Today it is just easier to do stuff ... but that is essentially the same as loss of skill. If kids are learning math by using a pocket calculator they will be screwed when the battery runs out.

One thing i hate, which seems to be the human condition, is this notion that everything was better in the past, when if you actually were there at the time it really wasn't, and it was better when you look back on it, than when you were in that moment.
Everything was always better 50 years ago somehow. It's ridiculous. I'm so glad they got that comment in. And I can't stand when older people talk about the younger generation as if we didn't raise them. The younger generation of today or during any time is just as intelligent, just as energetic, just as ready to conquer the world as every other young generation was. That's the deal. Young people get the energy, the older folks get the wisdom. And this notion that 'you didn't have to fight for what you've got like we did' is another assertion that I find so ridiculous. If people fought for freedoms or a better world or social justice, then what were they fighting for? So that their children and grandchildren wouldn't have to, I would hope. If they only 'fought' so they could use it as a weapon or a badge of honor, their motives were selfish, not selfless. (This isn't directed toward you personally, just a response in the same vein as your comment.)
Looking at this in 2022, this has never been more relevant than ever...repeating the mistakes of the past and having no alternative in government to turn to. Well, except Corbyn, but they got rid of him fairly sharpish lol
