I'll Be Your Mirror was recorded in April 1966, at Scepter Studios in NYC! The song actually has an incredibly interesting story behind it!
Written by Lou Reed for Nico (Christina Päffgen). The song itself is a very calming and soothing love song, which is in harsh contrast to some of the other songs in the album.
In contrast to the calming atmosphere of the song, the recording sessions were rather stressful. The band wanted Nico to sing the melody very tenderly and soft, but despite being told this over and over, she would revert back to her more aggressive style again and again. When the band confronted her about this, she broke down in tears, and the band told her that it didn't matter and they would give it one more try. After which, she recorded the final vocal take perfectly. That final take was the version heard on the album.
The members of the band actually loved this song so much, that following her departure from the band, they would continue to perform the song in her accent!
A little bit of trivia: Andy Warhol, their manager and cover artist for this album suggested that the song have a built-in record scratch at the end of side one, so the line "I'll be your mirror" would be repeated indefinitely until manually stopped. Unfortunately, nothing ever came of the plan.
For our version of the song, I used my Squier 70's Vibe Stratocaster through my Vox AC30VR and recorded with my Shire SM57 dynamic mic' for Sterling Morrisons rhythm guitar!
Sam used a 1967 Gretsch Country through a Vox AC30C2X also recorded with a Shure SM57 Dynamic mic' for Lou Reeds lead guitar work!
I really really hope you enjoyed this video! (I know I did!) It's been a long time in the making, but every second was worth it! Please stick around for the next video with should be coming some point around or after Christmas time, or perhaps the new year! (no promises for a time yet!)
I would greatly appreciate if you subscribed to my channel, allow my post notifications to appear and share with anyone else who would be interested!!

one of my favorite VU songs! you guys killed this
Thank you Sam! :)
Are you really fifteen and already have this musical tastes? You are amazing
Do you learn these by ear, if so any tips on how to get better at doing so
I do learn by ear! But I'm not sure of what to say. I suppose what I did was learn some chords and eventually after a while of being familiar with the chords, when I would try to learn songs there would be correlations. But learning by ear isn't an easy process, I used to make lots of mistakes by learning by ear, and now I have learnt musical Notation for bass clef (as I'm learning the Double Bass), and that has certainly helped a lot! Learning by ear isn't always for everyone haha!
tabs?
Sorry, I don't have or read Tabs haha. I learnt this by ear, but in time, I could probably notate it
@@LucaColaMusic damn i guess ill try to learn by ear as well
