- Tesla Lay-Offs Spark Outrage, "Insensitive" Termination Emails Go Viral | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Automaker Tesla has been laying off 10% of its global workforce since mid-April. The company is witnessing its worst performance in years. The layoffs were expected, but how they are being conducted is unusual. Now, Tesla's "insensitive" termination emails have gone viral. Tesla is sparking outrage over impersonal layoff notices. Former employees are taking to social media and talking about "brutal" termination. But this is not just about Tesla. Mass layoffs have become the new normal. In 2024 so far, more than 600,000 employees have been fired globally. Many workers are being laid off online via emails, phone calls and zoom calls. Companies claim online methods are efficient during layoffs. But firing people over emails can be unnecessary and cruel. So how can companies fire people in a more humane way. And should they? Palki Sharma tells you.

His fear mongering about population collapse is just a pathetic excuse to justify his inability to keep his pp in his pants.

@itsMsPhoenix Not only did I work as a COO prior to me becoming Founder/CEO of my own organization; it is not the stretch of common sense to assess and analyze all variables in a given situation.
When individuals continue to run their campaign of "always, it is the organization's fault " it is false and misguided.
I do believe this could have been handled differently, but each entrepreneur is different, and it does not mean all organization's are always at fault.
Furthermore, and exactly validating my point, is your comment "maybe I am not working in corporate"-- this is inability to think critically.

With all these humans leaving their jobs it tells me that the AI computer systems are now replacing humans , The algorithms have probably decided that the humans don’t need to be employed anymore
What a weird take. The company is simply downsizing in light of the decline in profits and revenues in Q1 - a decline anticipated to continue for most of this year and perhaps beyond. That’s why the cuts are so broad and not targeted and why Elon says there became ‘duplicated’ job roles. They had too many people hired for their amount of business.

This is very common in the US for almost all the companies. Tesla is not an exception. Every single company acts like this during mass layoffs. I am surprised that this is a sensation. The employees in the US are hired based on "Employment at will". This means the company can terminate an employee`s work contract in an instant without prior announcement. However, it works both ways. The employees can also quit the company without prior notice or approval of any sort. There is no mandatory work/notice period for the employee when they decide to quit. They are free to leave the very same day, very same minute. Please understand how the law and nature of employment works in the US before making videos about it. I hold this channel at a very high standard and thus being critical about it. But if the intention of this video is to mock Elon Musk with an agenda (Could even be due to politics or to set a narrative), I totally understand and the video is spot on.

Politicians always come to rescue the corporations but never even talk about employees. Always talk about giving employment, employment where employees hurt themselves mentally. CEOs pay themselves millions but don't want to pay which doesn't even match inflation.

No company will not survive once the employee morale has gone. Value of a company can find during when there is a tech crisis. Unfortunately many of the American companies are badly failed in treating employees well.
Both sides are right. These are tech companies, information is vital. They have assets that can easily be passed around so its necessary for them to protect it.
However, they also need to treat workers as humans during firing.
So many of the comments are about a requirement for the company to give two weeks of advance notice. In accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, Tesla had to pay 90 days wages in lieu of notice. Most companies like Tesla also pay out accrued vacation and personal leave time, as well.
Palki, it seems like Elon going to China rather coming to India has more to do with your reporting rather Tesla laying off employees. If only he would have visited India and then laid off employees, you would have been reporting, "a smart move by tesla to minimize its losses".

This exemplifies the distinction between Palki and other media outlets. Palki addresses topics that others overlook, they that don't even care merit a scrolling marquee news line elsewhere.
Whats wrong with the email, we indians are taught to sugar coat everything in school.
Please be practical.
No one has time to send you a personal email sugar coating everything to make you feel better .
Why are you not making a news on employees fired by Indian Companies Mrs Palki? Here also the situation is same. But they are doing under the cover of forced resignation.
No wonder "employee loyalty" is a thing of the past
Time to seriously think about such terminations. Let's boycott
When you choose to work for someone else then be prepared to be seen-through, walked-over, by-passed, set-up, gamed or get fired.
These are the hazards of the Employment model of Career.
There is also the Entrepreneurship model of career building. Here you begin with your entrepreneurship goals and then higher and fire Employers to Learn and raise Capital until you ready to start your own.
Note that in both cases the path one walks for 80% of the journey is the Same, however the Mindset is very different.
Layoff over email is outdated, there will be a call with HR, Hiring manager and employees, they will be simply asked to resign (to get few benefits/buy time) or send them off due to bad performance ( complimented with stories likes you were supposed to bring apples but you brought tomatoes)
Indian companies of Ambani have also done similar firing as per my friends.
In any USA company in the agreement itself it says that job is at will, which means both company and employee can terminate job as and when they like for any reason.
Why does this lady always give news in the form of an opinion rather than just reporting the news?
Employees need to keep backups of all their work everyday for safety
It is insensitive from everyone. This should not happen, but, There are many times when employees just write a mail of resignation and don’t talk to their managers. They are ready to leave asap.
This is why we say, don't love the company.. love your work.. When you join, they say you are a family. but just understand, that is just to steal your time from real family. When they fire you they say it is just business. So never trust a company
Most of the HR here are fucked up
When amazon laid off workers they cut them off from slack and all other corporate systems. Employees had limited access to email. One of my colleagues got laid off and email was how we came to know. Other companies like Google did the same way, immediately revoking all access and an email from HR.
Loyalty is a two way street. If this isn't handled well they won't want to come back when Tesla needs them to come back.
Why the emphasis of laying off "on email" ? What do you all expect? The CEO to take everyone out personally on a dinner to break the news to you?😂
These employees are a bunch of cry babies.

When i approached a corporate lawyer, he said its going to be waste of time and money bcoz the company will be favoured. How scary
I have a very small business and i feel the same if I give an employee notice they might damage my business. Am not sure 8f my thought are right but that's how I feel
No reason why they can't do layoffs F2F, speaks volumes about the culture at this company. Not difficult to treat people with respect they aren't being fired they are being laid off because of bad management decisions, looking at you Musk.
People are also being employed online aren't they??
From the same guy who said unionizing will heart their employees
We are disposable
In the business world. Ive been throught it
It does leave a scar , January 2cd, after working 8 years at a start up, hard & growing pains at start up, new buyer a year before.this was 20 years ago
I never forgot it
The truth of the matter is , big companies all do it this way, they have to. If you telegraph your punches, so to speak, you give the person your punching enough time to react. They don't want potential employee sabotage or retaliation preemptively if they know they are getting axed right before they get the notice, so employers make it as much of a surprise as they can. It is true you are just a number to them, but if we really think about it, they are just a number to the employee too, the number on their paycheck, stock RSUs , and healthcare premiums, it's really that simple, it's just business. Can't be emotional about it and the guy at the top absolutely can't be emotional about it, he's got to keep his/her eye on the big picture. So, in short, suck it up and adapt, save while your making the money, and always always keep looking and networking for the next gig, and really we are all gig workers now days.
When company think they have more work they hire, if situation changes they fire, why is it too difficult to understand and why do people need to be personally pampered before firing? Aren’t they mature enough to understand that there is nothing personal?
It is time for every government to frame labour code more stringent. And employees should also learn not to loose their dignity if they can take care of their basic needs.
