I am a Vietnam Veteran myself and from 2012 until two months ago, I was homeless and sleeping in my car. I had went by a job service here in Tennessee and while in the office, I was asked about my situation. I proceeded telling the man that I had been homeless and sleeping in my car. He offered help through some federal programs. As of December 22, I have been in a place to live, my first place since August 2012. I had forgotten what it felt like to live in a place. A Social Security Diabilty check was making my car payment with hardly anything left over. Finally, by the mercy and grace of God, I have a place to live.
So many stories like this remind us of the countless forgotten heroes who deserve our deepest gratitude. Their sacrifices, courage, and dedication should never go unnoticed. God bless them all for their selflessness and bravery. To every hero who has served, thank you for your service-you are the true pillars of strength and inspiration. 🇺🇸❤✨
No Vet should be homeless and i mean No Veteran . We need to fix this now . Our Government Needs to help Americans First . I would help but i'm on S.S. and can barely help myself right now .
I'm a disabled veteran. Rated at 70 percent. Who was on the streets 3 years. I couldn't afford a place on my disability pension. If it wasn't for my sister I'd still be on the streets.
My dad made 9 jumps with the 82nd Airborne at the end of WWII. As far as I know only his immediate family members knew he served at all. One should treat every person with respect. One never knows what that person is, has accomplished, the lives saved by him/her. It must be remembered that God sent His Son out of heaven to do the work to save each and every person on earth. If God considers me worthy of that sacrifice, I should feel the same about everybody, no matter how much I disagree with their ideology, life choices, sexual orientation... John's story would never have gone down the avenues it did had folks looked upon him with the eyes of Jesus, his military service aside. My best friend came back from the jungles of Laos and Viet Nam. He was mistreated because of his service there. The shame heaped on him and the others drove many who did this sort of heroism on a daily basis under bridges or nooses under bridges. The way vets have been treated in this country since the Revolutionary War has been atrocious (cf. the Whiskey Rebellion or the million man march in the '30s). John's story is as old as the world, because men believe themselves to be important. Until we can do unto others as we would have them do unto us, this injustice is inevitable.
Such a powerful story! John’s journey shows how much veterans sacrifice and how important it is to support them. Glad he finally got the recognition he deserves!
The civilian population doesn’t have any idea what veterans go through in war time. The true feeling of protecting your brothers in the conflict is greater than their own lives. Veterans stick together when the time really matters. Thank you to ALL VETERANS PAST AND PRESENT, from another veteran. MayGod be in your life.
I am also a Vietnam vet. I did not have the problems that Mr. Mitchell head, but I went through enough tough times fitting back into society almost like John but I had friends and family that helped me thank you for your story.
Yes and we you returned to this country from Vietnam, you vets were treated like shit and some even spit on. Thank you for your service and God bless you.
I have tried to google him but haven't found a match that coincides with this story. But you are right, our soldiers should be rewarded instead of forgotten.
If the VA provided quality support, we wouldn’t need the DAV, Wounded Warrior project etc…. The government should be supporting us veterans instead of voting themselves a raise when threatening government closure
Exactly.when i came back from vietnam,in a hooch before we got on a plane leaving DaNang,we were told ,you are veterans now and read off a list of things we could get from the VA after discharge, even though I still had about a year and a half b4 my 4 year enlistment was up in the USMC.Apparently it all changed and now they say your injury is not service related.Agent Orange and then the Camp Lejeune contaminated water case.
I can't believe that after all this time you haven't been rated by the VA. Certainly you have documents stating you were in VN and with all the added conditions due to Agent Orange you do not have a rating. You need to get another VA Rep. Within about 6 to 8 months, I went from 50% to 100%. It took me several years to get to 50%, but that was my fault for not persuing an increase after receiving 10% upon discharge back in 1978. One thing Biden did was to help vets get the ratings they deserved.
Welcome home John. I never forgot what you did. God blessed us with you and all your brothers and sisters. Everyone has a story not all have a weight to carry such as yours. you carry the medal for who can’t.
The veteran Mr John is a powerful tesmony, it touched my heart, i believe the Heavenly Mighty God helped John to reestablished his Life. I was so Glad that the story ended well. Bless be the name above all name, Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour. Amen ❤️ 🙏 ❤️ 🙏 ❤️ 🙏 ❤️ 🙏 ❤️ 🙏 ❤️ 🙏 ❤️ 🙏 ❤️
I think every vet deserves everything they need to be free for all they all deserve free every thing because the loving vets and the ones that didn't make the yard enough with there lives I love all vets and they all deserve respect
As an old solider once stated winning medals in combat is a lottery. Every solider is a hero they don't need a CMOH or Victoria Cross to prove that. As such should all be treated with as much respect for putting themselves in harm's way regardless
Sure, Veterans will be invisible when coming home... Not right but we're talking reality. This is a true story of valor. I enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks Mr. Mitchell, we owe you!
SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL STORY. A TRUE "HEROOOOO". AND I DO BELIEVE THAT THIS STORY IS SIMILAR TO MANY OF OUR "HEROES VETERANS" WHO GAVE ALL THEY HAVE TO SAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND IN RETURN, THEY WERE NEGLECTED BY ALMOST EVERYONE LEAVING THEM STRUGGLING ALL ALONE. SOOOOO HAPPY, FINALLY HE GOT WHAT HE REALLY DESERVES WITH THE HELP OF AN AWESOME JUDGE 👩⚖️ WHO WAS REALLY UNDERSTANDING EXACTLY WHAT "JOHN" WENT THROUGH. A TRUE HEROOOOO. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have been homeless on more than one occasion, I have never asked for anything from anybody, I have been fighting the Va for decades. I understand fully this story.
I am a Vet and went 40 years going from job to job, relationships and could not be around people then in 2017 I went to the VA and they finaly got me help. I had a very bad case of ptsd and found that it effects people in many ways. I am Thankful for getting help and need more but I have learned to stay positive and have always help others and no God is there. Thank You other VETS
Im glad that a close friend coordinates homeless veteran care in metro Atlanta. My father stayed in service 24 years. Almost got out after the Chosin Korea disaster & the night he returned home dove under the bed instantly when a plane flew over our house & mom told him to talk to his c.o. which enabled him to tell me about Casablanca, Keserine, Sicily, Naples, etc to VE Day. Gave him strength to train new troops! 💪
I always read and heard the saying, no man will be left. I call these Veterans story, being left behind. My God, he sacrificed his life for his country. So many more Veterans living on the streets and have nothing to eat. American citizen should not allow that. If I had the money, I would open up a place for them to live and get warm meals. Thank you Veterans for what you all have done for this country. I wish all of you well and that you never will feel forgotten. Come on America, do something for your brave men. Save them from being homeless and starving. That is very shameful for America,
Great and touching story whether fact or fiction. In contrast here in our country all who served(most of our citizens) are treated with respect and honour. Sempre fi and shalom.....IDF veteran.
That IS a very MOVING story!!!! I am a Vet. But I was never Faced with the Situation that He WAS!!!! There ARE so many men out there that are facing that Kind of situation. All I can Say IS, May the Lord help each one of them. My heart goes out to them. 🥰🥰
I was in that moment when I came home from nam no one cared after all these years we are finally welcomed home but no one calls no visits I sit here lonely no one seems to care as if I don’t exist
Being a Veteran and being an immigrant is not mutually exclusive. Consider the great welcome Vietnam vets received from Americans at the Army DEROS in Oakland, CA, in 1969 and the early seventies-a story well articulated by the narrator.
As I rember when the vietnam vets returned they wer viewed as failure not worthy of respect in fact whenni studied electronics som Vietnam Nam vets took the same class and we talked most of them wer not well received so wher did you get the impression they wer honored did you know that the polliticans kept telling every one the vietnam war was an police action from talking with the veterans I looked like a war to them and not a police action 😮
It is far too often that there is such anger in listening to this story makes me feel it again. It’s not very easy to understand but far too often a combat veteran is forgotten when I returned from Vietnam, brown star CIB and I never would even speak of it because we were looking down on And as a combat veteran you have so many feelings within it’s very difficult to talk about it I’m 74. I can speak of it more now than I ever could before and of course I fight for everything I have. No one‘s really given me anything except for now I get 100% VA disability And it’s been very tough throughout my life for marriages and three of them didn’t recognize her as a problem, nor did they asked or deal with and finally after 30 some years, I’ve been married to the same woman who understands and she can’t work because of taking care of meand I think that she deserves as much credit as I know this John person if it’s a true story or not it’s still a story that probably should be told more often and to get people to understand how a combat that thanks and that’s a hard thing to do
Happens to a lot of veterans from all wars and all countries! Ww1 veterans here in oz used to sell their silver victory medals for the silver value to survive post war
The creep who bought his medal of Honor should have steered John to every agency that could have assisted him. Johns hardship should have ended there. Too many vets are reluctant to ask for help.
You didn’t have to actually experience combat, although those of my brothers and sisters who did deserve all of our country’s accolades and help, but the act of signing your life away in service and defense of our nation no matter what you may find yourself up to your neck in, is a life altering experience that never at ends. I served in the USAF 1962-1970 and even at 80 years of age the experience when even thinking about my brothers and sisters in arms brings tears to my eyes.
To Lisa Rodriguez: I’m a veteran and went to the va for medical and the lady doctor who never looked at me or asked me how I was feeling said she was going to take my drivers license away and put me in a home. 😮 I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.. I left there and never went back. I filled a complaint but nothing came of it. I will NEVER go back to the va for anything. I’ll die first… 🤷♂️
I can relate to this, we veterans are totally forgotten when we return to civilian life. US and UK treat their veterans very poorly. We don’t want to be given anything but we do need help
This should be transformed into an article and published in Indian news paper for those who disrespect a soldier incident happened at the hands of police in uniform in recent months should be dealt with seriously , and defaulters punished .
I don't know much about my Uncle's time in the service. Recently I found out he had to count all the dead He was in the Korean War. He went on to marry and have several children. He had a quietness about him. As far as I know he rarely talked about his time serving his country. Until my fellow Veterans are safely housed and assisted with mental health services to prevent suicide...this nation's DUTY to these men and women I call my brothers and sister will NOT be complete.
First, he would not be penniless. MoH receive a monthly compensation. Even if he sold his medal, he would still receive monthly allowances and medical care from the Veteran Hospital. Many benefits are available to him. Unfortunately, there are too many combat veterans still being denied disability benefits from VA reviewers. 85% of claims are denied.
I'm a Vet and my family is currently living with my Mom cause of a house fire(Insurance canceled policy 3 years ago without notice. It was my Mom's second house). Unable to get any assistance with getting temporary housing. Currently unemployed do to car breaking down 3 weeks after fire.
The government gives money to migrants but our veterans suffer. This is not right 😕 😢 Get rid of the migrants and take care of our veterans 💙 ❤️ and the rest of our homeless.
No money for citizens, no money for illegals. Any government assistance should be limited to citizens. The only thing illegals should get is being reported.
It is very sad sad our veterans suffer it is right down sham 😢it should be frist and for most to take care of our veterans my heart goes out for them, God bless. them
There's vet's living on the streets and in there cars in england.. the vets over there are treated alot better then over ere... goverment doesn't care in my opinion.....
Tell me who is going to pick the crops? Are you going to pick the crops? Because getting rid of migraines will hurt the farmers tremendously and they won’t be any food. But I’m sure that you are MAGA. And they don’t understand this concept. So quit your job whatever it is and take a job picking the crops.
I grew up on military bases and my son was in the army same with family in the past get your shit together America if we can't take care of us first no one else is gonna
I am a army ranger and I was homeless and was sleeping in my truck at Walmart and I broke my ankle really bad and had to have surgery on it... when I was out of the hospital i had to go back to Walmart because that was where my truck was but when I got there they had my truck toad and had me arrested for trespassing and I was not supposed to be walking on it but they made me do it then i had 4 more surgery on it because of that
Nice story but in reality all that stuff isn’t any police arrest reports. It’s just what happened as why the person is arrested. No way a police officer would know the history of a veteran that was arrested.
We as a country need to fire the people in charge of the VA and government and get some people who cares for our veterans and to get these immigrants thrown out of this country.Free ride is over. When are we going to stand up for our veterans.
The way our government and civilians treated Vietnam veterans is a national shame. The number of veterans of all wars and police actions that are homeless is staggering. Even worse is the number of veterans who have committed suicide. Unfortunately a first cousin was one of those.
I am a Vietnam Veteran myself and from 2012 until two months ago, I was homeless and sleeping in my car. I had went by a job service here in Tennessee and while in the office, I was asked about my situation. I proceeded telling the man that I had been homeless and sleeping in my car. @@InspireLoveTales they have not from our house. Thank you, truly.
No Vet should be homeless and i mean No Veteran . We need to fix this now . Our Government Needs to help Americans First . I would help but i'm on S.S. and can barely help myself right now .
It is a total shame that anyone would not have the respect for a homeless vet BS it should never happen NEVER .
I'm a disabled veteran. Rated at 70 percent.

John's perseverance is so moving-especially the moment he finally got recognized! Which part of his journey stood out to you the most?

Americans are too spoiled and don’t care
Fact.
That’s right. We need to take care of all our veterans.
There are many like John out there on the streets..I've met them..many years in service..but lost in civilian life...THEY ALL DESERVE BETTER.
I am also a Vietnam vet. I did not have the problems that Mr. Mitchell head, but I went through enough tough times fitting back into society almost like John but I had friends and family that helped me thank you for your story.

Thank you very much for the kind words. Thank you again.
Welcome home my brother from another mother. RVN, 9Inf Div, 3/5 Cav, 67-68.
Thanks judge for your active and helpful compassion Thanks John for your bravery in battle ❤😊
Wonderful story . Every country should take care of men and women who have served their country. I am happy the story had a good ending . 😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Really great story.
Many who deserve a second chance will never get one.
The story itself may or may not be true but it speaks of good soldiers who need to be cared for by those who sent them to war.
Help those need help
I have tried to google him but haven't found a match that coincides with this story. But you are right, our soldiers should be rewarded instead of forgotten.
Gold Bless you and a Hero Thank you
We have way too many homeless veterans on our streets . None of our true heroes should ever be homeless.
True, but the White House is spending the money needed for the homeless vets is being spent on illegal aliens
Wow great story hope others Veterans will get help and don’t become homeless
If the VA provided quality support, we wouldn’t need the DAV, Wounded Warrior project etc…. The government should be supporting us veterans instead of voting themselves a raise when threatening government closure

This Gentlemen is a true American Hero. Thank you for your service to our great Nation. Semper Fi
❤ Absolutely 💯 Awesome Story ❤
Welcome home John.
I never forgot what you did.
God blessed us with you and all your brothers and sisters.
Everyone has a story not all have a weight to carry such as yours.

To many stories that are equal to this. Forgotten heroes. God bless them all. Thank you all for your service. You are true heroes.
Wedont do enough to help our Vets, thrn again no matter what we do IT WILL NEVER BEENOUGH
We should never forget. Being a vet myself I KNOW THOSE FEELING 😢
The system turned its back to this man and all the other vets good luck brother.
Yes it did! I too am a Disabled Veteran Served in Desert Storm though I was simply a Cook
That was very heartbreaking story, I pray that all veterans that were ignored get recognition and help
Thank you for your service.
That's sad but awesome
What an inspiring moment-his words must have been truly powerful to leave the entire court speechless.
Love this no vetren should go through this ,so glad he finally got help
God didn't abandon this hero
Im a veteran...I Salute you Sir.
I have been homeless on more than one occasion, I have never asked for anything from anybody, I have been fighting the Va for decades. I understand fully this story.
This must be the best! 🎉🎉😢😢😢
Thank you
God Bless him I hope he managed to rebuild his life and, well, done the judge, some common sense and decency
When will America learn to look after its own?
NEVERRRRRRRRRRRR😢
THANK GOD HE GOT THE RECOGNITION HE DESERVED.
What a WONDERFUL story! Thank you SO much for sharing such an AMAZING, INSPIRING ending! 😊
I am a Vet and went 40 years going from job to job, relationships and could not be around people then in 2017 I went to the VA and they finaly got me help. A great story watching from the uk
Never ever judge a. Book for its course. You may be surprised..
Angel's don't always show their wings. God bless both of you. I'm a vet ,Most people have no idea 😕
The money spent waging wars around the world should have been used to help war veterans and poor and homeless. No more wars.
I always read and heard the saying, no man will be left. I call these Veterans story, being left behind. My God, he sacrificed his life for his country. He needs $$$ more that recognition snd honour right now. Once he has a full stomach and neat attire, the rest can fall onto his lap.
The magic of storytelling,
Great and touching story whether fact or fiction. In contrast here in our country all who served(most of our citizens) are treated with respect and honour. Sempre fi and shalom.....IDF veteran.
Awesome story and Sàlton SEA California USA
That IS a very MOVING story!!!! I am a Vet. But I was never Faced with the Situation that He WAS!!!! There ARE so many men out there that are facing that Kind of situation. All I can Say IS, May the Lord help each one of them. My heart goes out to them. 🥰🥰
We need to pass a courtesy law in the United States! No military veteran deserves to be homeless!
Audie Murphy, the most decorated man in WWII was also homeless before he got help and got a job in Hollywood
Living and not they gave there all and that's enough everything should be free for them
A reminder of State Failure
Nice story
Increíble historia, muy inspiradora #leccionesdevida
Thank you and may The LORD bless you for your kind words.

The VA doesn't give a shit! Waiting 50 plus years for a hearing aid! All of us have to wait for any treatment at all.
bull shit
I to have the same issue ifeel that the VA is a joke
Happens to a lot of veterans from all wars and all countries! Ww1 veterans here in oz used to sell their silver victory medals for the silver value to survive post war

Yes! God Bless Mr. John Mitchell!🙏🙏🙏✝💟💟💟
Why do the police dispatchers not handle these calls instead of calling the cops?
Great story...but, if he hadn't been that John Mitchell, would the judge have given him a 3 month imprisonment?
I'm a vet, this story put a knot in my through. good story🥴
Beautiful ending to a tragic story that is far too common in the world today.

Ass some of us
Know
Every nation will be judged by the way it treats those in need, especially veterans.
Nice story but there is no John Mitchell listed in CMOH.
Exactly, this video is complete fiction. I support vets, but I don't support people putting out fiction as truth.
My Name is JohnMitchell!

There's vet's living on the streets and in there cars in england.. the vets over there are treated alot better then over ere... goverment doesn't care in my opinion.....
Migrants, what are migrants?
Tell me who is going to pick the crops? Are you going to pick the crops? Because getting rid of migraines will hurt the farmers tremendously and they won’t be any food. But I’m sure that you are MAGA. And they don’t understand this concept. So quit your job whatever it is and take a job picking the crops.
hence the old saying ,,, never judge a book by iits cover
If we can't take care of the ones who fight for us then who's gonna take care of us
government sp😢ends millionson fire works on new years why not use the money to help vets and homeless
Sadly its the same here in Britain illegal immigrants get everything but us former soldiers are ignored sorry to here its the same for you in the USA
The VA doesn’t crap on vets, the government does
The VA IS the government!!! You must be daft.
The Judge knew . She had a Brother that told the story . That was reality .
We as a country need to fire the people in charge of the VA and government and get some people who cares for our veterans and to get these immigrants thrown out of this country.Free ride is over. When are we going to stand up for our veterans.
The same thing happened after Vietnam. Homeless vets.
The way our government and civilians treated Vietnam veterans is a national shame. The number of veterans of all wars and police actions that are homeless is staggering. Even worse is the number of veterans who have committed suicide. Unfortunately a first cousin was one of those.
