      This trade was to get the defenceman and free up a little bit of more cap space to really make the push for Milan Lucic

  • @Nnamz
    @Nnamz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +239

    Weber has 1 more point than PK since 2010 and PK still has the best years ahead of him.
    Nashville won the trade.

    • @ThisIsMeAD
      @ThisIsMeAD 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Points aren't everything. I didn't know a team needed a "defenceman" to put up points, pretty sure that's what the forwards are for. Plus, leadership is a nice bonus, I'm a Habs fan, and with an "in the moment" mindset, I think we won.

      Have you seen Subban's breakout and team play? its horrible, and Weber is 100 times better deffencivly than Subban

    • @nhehlers4265
      @nhehlers4265 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Subban doesnt play defense. Weber is a Defensive Defesemen yet he put up the same points as Subban. MONTREAL WINS

    • @OilersRule18
      @OilersRule18 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Adam Davison I completely agree with you, Defence is a type of player to play a physical, more behind the play than offence, Eric Karlson is basically a forward, or back in the old days, a rover (6th position placed between the two defensemen).

    • @ethanpascoe1540
      @ethanpascoe1540 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I agree Nashville won, they don't win this year or maybe even next. It will be in the years following. Yes PK will probably put up more points bit Weber is much better defensively and still gets points as well. MTL won for this upcoming and maybe the season after. But then Nashville will have the better end of the deal.

    • @ZonedGamingXbox

      And then he went on to say that he wont resign so win anything with New Jersey, news flash New Jersey has been getting better each year so in the next 4 years it's a possibility we go far in the playoffs (not saying we take it all) but for him to sit there and say what New Jersey will and will not do pisses me off sorry

    • @MrBanana334

      +Monkey Weather yea dude Edmonton, Buffalo, Calgary and toronto are the only rebuilding teams that actually have a future. Toronto has nylander, Marner, and Matthews. Edmonton has all of their first overall picks. Buffalo has reinhart, eichel and Kane. And Calgary has gaudreau, Bennett, Monahan. All of these rebuilding teams have a bunch of prospects/rookies. New Jersey doesn't really have that many

      +Hockey_ _402 Devils really have been building their farm the last yr and a half under Shero. Lou Lam never signed NCAA specs, but since Shero has taken over we have signed quite a few. Devils farm was bottom 5 a few yrs ago but I would say its about middle of the pack, and we also have a bunch of 2nds and 3rds the next 2 yrs. Hall speeds the rebuild up immediately. Zacha who was our top 6 pick last yr should get a big role this yr if he can produce. Same with Quenville and Santini. I hope they pan out

    What EDM had to pay for a defenseman like Larsson really makes the Canucks GM look like a genius getting a 6'5" stud Erik Gudbranson for a 185 pound less than 10 goal-scorer Jared Mcann. Hall had 65 pts last season.

    • @thegoat593

    everyone be shitting on the devils jeezus, 2 thirty goal scorers in Henrique and Palmeiri, an elite goaltender in Cory Schneider and now Taylor Hall? Taylor Hall will lead the Devils to the playoffs, simply put. If Cammalleri and Schneider stayed healthy for the whole season they would've made the playoffs last season. Taylor is good friends with Henrique, and said he's looking forward to a change of scenery, Hall will be the guy in New Jersey, the fans will cherish him and the franchise will build around him. Not sure why Johnny thinks he's going to leave, he's going to experience success right off the bat and could easily make the playoffs in his first season as a devil. My prediction is his play skyrockets over the next few seasons, and Shero builds around him. The devils wouldn't have gone after him if they thought they would just lose him in free agency 4 years later.

    • @Skillocity
      @Skillocity 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great points. Devils were on the verge last year but the injury bug screwed us over. Hall is a fantastic acquisition and we finally have a decent top 6. If we can acquire one more defenseman thru FA and sign Schlemko, I truly believe this team can make the playoffs.

    • @nexushockeyHD
      @nexushockeyHD 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skillocity well we signed that french defensman Yohann Auvitu so maybe he could be something

    • @logeshbarath3246
      @logeshbarath3246 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      People are insane. Im a devils fan but i dont see them making the playoffs. our defence is very shitty now. All of our defence are either 2nd or 3rd pairing guys. Our best prospect is damon severson who is kind of a defensive liability. Andy greene is a top 4 defender playing top 2 minutes. santini is most likely gonna play on the 3rd pairing as a rookie. jon merrill's development kinda stalled so maybe he can start developing again. if anything, maybe we can trade with carolina for one of the shit load of defensive prospects. they might want a goalie so maybe wedgewood, blackwood or appleby are trading chips. As for offense we dont have that elite playmaking centre who can dish the puck to palmieri, hall, camellari and boucher. henrique scored more goals than assists last year, pavel zacha is more of a goalscorer than a playmaker and people expect him to play left wing next year and zajac isnt good. He is a third line center making second line money. He hasnt had 50 points since 2009-10 when we had parise and kovalchuk.

    edmonton got absolutely butt fucked in this trade. Hall is ranked 3rd in points/60 Mins over the last 3 seasons only behind benn and Crosby. Oilers will be rebuilding until mcdavid has 6 years in the league and he gets traded

      +Chris P. Bacon hahah they traded a guy who led the team in points pretty much since he's gotten there for an unproven 23 yr old defense who nobody knows. so he's not gonna make the oilers better sorry to tell yah

      @whereswaldo7457 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @jondan7466
      @jondan7466 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well some can like Kane sequin players like those but I agree with the fact about the defensemen but trading a top winger who has proved themselves for a defenceman who was supposed to be good and hasn't proven anything is not a good trade. Plus if it was like a nuge or a yakapov for Larson it would be worth because ur getting rid of a player who doesn't want to be there or a centre that isn't too good and is getting over shadowed by McDavid and draisaitl but instead they got rid of a lw which they don't have a really good one other then hall.

    Montreal got the better end of the deal. Adding Weber makes them a physically scary team. Shaw, Gallagher, Weber, Emelin. That's a tough, mean core. Weber is 6'4" 240lb beast that claps 110mph slapshots all day. Weber is more consistent and a far better leader. That's who Montreal wants, an old fashioned, tough mofo that just does his job. Not a guy that does unnecessary dekes and dives like michael phelps. I also feel that Weber has a better offensive upside aswell. Think about it, would Subban be considered as good as he is if he wasn't constantly in the media? I don't think so.

    3. Erik Gudbranson drafted by Florida, now in Vancouver (2016)

  • @connorwallace8619
    @connorwallace8619 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I agree when Johnny said that Hall is gonna want to win a cup or play with a contending team but to me as a devils fan, we are there. We were one top line player away from making it to the playoffs and we missed it this year because Corey hurt himself and so did Elias. But if they stay healthy and now with an amazing left winger that hall is, I think we get the playoffs this year and after that, as all of us hockey fans know, playoff hockey is an animal that no one can predict. So we will have to wait for that. I also believe that hall is now bait for some free agents that the Devils can go after. Maybe now we go after a top defensemen or maybe a nice second liner to play with Patrick if he stays. It's a very interesting free agency year and I can't wait until July 1st. Happy to be a devils fan rn

  • @NHLHornsandSongs
    @NHLHornsandSongs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Geroges Lararaque who now works in a sports radio station as a journalist said that he spoke privately to a couple of Habs players and that they just couldn't stand Subban because of his attitude and the terrible season just made it worse. Laraque totally called the trade like 3-4 months ago he said that there was no chance that Subban would still be a Montreal Canadien after July 1st because of what he heard about what was happening in the locker room. This is the main reason of the trade.

    Everyone incredibly underestimates the Devils. They were in the playoff race this year until two top five players in Camalleri and Schneider got injured. The Devils already have two 30 goal scorers and Zajac is a great playmaker and adding Hall makes a top line of Hall-Henrique-Palmieri/Camalleri which is amazing. With kids like Zacha, Quennville, and Boucher also getting a chance at a full season all the Devils needed is a star like Hall to light their spark. And if they sign someone like Okposo or Nielson then they will be serious contenders.

  • @michaelschmidig4449
    @michaelschmidig4449 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The Devils aren't exactly in total rebuild because they have a young defensive core that is waiting to break out after two more years (most likely). The entire offensive structure does need work because the main focus has always been on defense and when DeBoer tried to switch the long standing system that Lamoriello built, it failed after one year and he kept going with it. So the process of fitting in a good offense into the solid back line will always be hard, and depending on only two lines is hard. The offensive prospects are improving since Shero has come in, but most of the young guys that they have in the system are people that the team is trying to find some potential. So Hall really should try to for the long haul because he should see that this new revitalized franchise are moving on from old foundations and will burst onto the scene as potential contenders in four years.

    • @ChrisLamia

      @hbtnt0 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah...Subban just moves the puck so good he makes goal spots. Weber is more defensive and will help the Habs a lot next couple years

    • @IronMan50780
      @IronMan50780 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Patches 67s I don't think so. MTL has some serious back checking problems from their forwards causing even more stress for the Dmen with the good forwards who will back check in NSH as well as other talented Dmen who have been allowing Shea Webber more of a break I don't see why Subban couldn't win the Norris. Subban just went to a better overall team with Better Dmen and Shea Webber went to a team with forwards who don't back check and a Dcore that is much worse. Before they even play a game Subban is in a better position to succeed.

    As a devils fan myself. I've seen their offense before, it's terrible. Taylor Hall is the stud winger that I wanted. Travis Zajac had a 28 assist season. He can feed the puck to Hall and produce 40 assists next year. Hall can get 35 goals next year. He can also produce 40 assists. He had 36 assists this past year. He is great in both departments. We also have Henrique and Palmieri, both 30 goal scorers and both had 50 points. Put that with Hall, a 30 goal scorer and 60 point scorer. You have got a devastating offense. Johny, mention this comment in the next shootout commentary and talk about it a little bit.

    Weber / Subban trade to me is completely insane and I never seen it coming. I understand why both teams made it but my question is why Nashville? You just traded the best Dman in the league. Best... I mean you traded a total stud who was the backbone of your team. Weber is an amazing player and leader. I know Subban is good but i love how Weber carries himself on the ice. He is that sure lock down defensive presence. I'm a Hawks fan and I know that Nashville was that team who gave us fits in the post-season and that was entirely up to that Nashville "defense". Weber will be a stud til the day he retires but I thought that was gonna be in Nashville.

      TTH247 Yea i can agree with that. If I was a forward in the NHL i would rather go up against Subban any day of the week over Weber lol. Its an insane trade that I never seen coming. I think both teams got what they needed though. I've always liked Subban so as an NHL fan I'm definitely excited to see what he can truly do. As a Hawks fan though i dread it lol.

    • @moose1164
      @moose1164 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Need Reviving I can agree with you. Weber is on 10 years but I think he will be solid until he retires. His fundamentals and knowledge of the game with carry his talent til the day he retires. His leadership and true lock down defensive play is exactly what the Habs need. I will not be surprised if the Habs give him the C or an Alternate right away.(Subban) No denying his talent but his attitude is a bit ridiculous at times. He will be fine playing beside Josi. Weber rubbed off on Josi and look what a player he became.

    Coming from a Devils fan: The reason why our trade was pulled off was because we need a young scorer that a team is willing to give up for a need of that team. Edmonton needs defense. We were willing to give away our young defender for a young scorer. Edmonton does not need anymore scores on their team, they're loaded with scorers. But in their book, scoring does not win games, in our book, defense wins games. We have plenty of young defenders down in the AHL that can get the call up anytime. We just need scorers. Adding Taylor Hall to our roster, he will most likely play with Henrique and Cammalleri. Henrique had a total of 50 points (30G 20A). With the time Cammalleri got he had a total of 38 points (14G 24A). Adding Hall to our lineup, you can easily see both Henrique's and Cammalleri's totals increasing each year. Just with Hall alone, we can be seen as a better team because we finally have that top scorer that we need. We could easily be 4-5 points out of the playoffs next season

    • @TheVanezi
      @TheVanezi 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the next few years, maybe 4 or so, the Habs won this deal. I'm a Habs fan and have been for the past 30 years and PK is a defensive liability. Their numbers the past 4 years are almost identical but most people are forgetting one very important factor. Look at the differences in the divisions that each team plays in. You play the most games against teams in your divison and no one can deny that the central is the most potent in all of the NHL. Weber has played great defensive and offensive hockey in the central, not to mention very tough minutes against the leagues best scorers. PK is gonna be lit up game after game and Weber is going to be an absolute BEAST in the Atlantic. Habs win the trade, that is all.

    Hall has played with Henrique before. I imagine Hall will like the change of scenery because Schneider is a top 5 goalie in the league, Devils have a very deep defensive core and Hall will help put that puck in the net. Also, who knows who the Devils will sign in Free Agency. On the other hand, Oilers got a much needed top 2 defense but they easily could have tried to get more. Hall is a proven 1st line forward and being re-united with Henrique may be a nice fit for him.

    As much as I don't like the Hall trade, it ultimately helps out the Oilers in three ways.
    1. It gives Edmonton an RHD which is something they desperately need.
    2. It gives Edmonton roughly $13.3M in cap space to sign both Milan Lucic and Jason Demers
    3. Frees up cap space so that Edmonton can resign Draisitl, McDavid, Nurse and Puljujarvi once their ELC expires

    The Weber trade is an upgrade on the ice, but a kick to the nuts in the stands. I was able to attend the 2003 draft in person, watched Weber walk across the stage, and watched him develope his whole career. Weber was the face of our franchise for 6 years, was with us through the rough times while remaining very professional the whole time, and I wish nothing but the best for him in Montreal. However, since PK is a much better skater, the speed between Josi and PK will be incredible because lets not forget Josi was less than .5 seconds slower than Larkin and was 2nd overall in the fastest skater. PK helps make that 1st pairing more dynamic as Weber is slower after his knee injury during the 2015 playoffs, but still a very serviceable defender and very good defender. The lack of speed and lack of pocession from Weber was made apparent during the 2nd round against San Jose as he always looked to pass to Josi as he should, and once they took away that pass, then more turnovers began to happen. PK fits Lavy's more uptempo style of play and since we also have Ellis and Ekholm under contract for another 4 years so our d core is still the best in the league. Again hate to lose Weber because of all he has done for Nashville and wish him nothing but success, but at the same time, I'm very excited to add PK to the team.

    In my honest opinion I believe the trade evens out, because Montreal adds an older, more experienced player that can help them win now, as well as make more room for cap the next 10 years, however Nashville got a younger player that is still growing, and can not only help out the young team that Nashville has now, but will be able to help them out in the long run as well since he is 4 years younger than Weber. If I had to choose one team to win the trade it would be Nashville because they have so many young, talented players already and bigger name players to help out P.K on the blue line, while Montreal doesn't have any huge name players to help out Weber on the blue line

  • @huskypower99

    PK Subban had attitude issues. Wasn't on time to meetings, practice. Focusing more on being PK76 than being PK Subban from the Canadiens. I loved him to death, but the trade had reason behind it. Many teammates were NOT friends with PK and did not appreciate his charisma. Teammates didn't even attend his $10,000,000 contribution ceremony. Not one!! All this information came out this morning on TSN 690. I'm shaken up by this trade, but I KINDA see the reason behind it. I'm happy that we got a beast in Shea Weber who has a good 3-4 years left of solid defending. But in the long run, if we look at this hockey trade...Nashville wins.

    • @huskypower99

      This season, PK said and I quote "Drew Doughty is winning the Norris trophy. Look who he plays with and look who I play with". Again, all this came from TSN 690 this morning. Tony Marinaro has great relationships with the MTL Canadiens. He's not BS'ing.

      Agreed people think that since Weber is almost 31 year olds he cant play anymore hockey. Last time i checked Jagr was still playing and Chara is 39. and Hossa contract is even worse than Weber. Subban is really good off but hes mediocre in def like Karlsson. they are risky defs. Montreal is a team that focus on def plays with Price in the net. Subban making multiple dumb mistakes last season once again did cost atleast 3-4 games aka 6-8 points atleast. Ofc subban will be better in 5 years but still. subban will be 33 and Weber 38. People are dumb

    Johnny you need to look at it like this. Shero was one of those who built the current penguins team, he knows what he's doing and he's going to build around hall and hall will find success right away. And the Devils in the next five years will be in the cup

    As a Montreal fan who lives in Montreal I am so sad to see Subban leave... Don't get me wrong Weber is amazing But Subban made watching the games very interesting. And we just lost 4 years... Subban is 27 and Weber is 31 in August... Looks like I am a Nashville fan now

    Hall will stay in NJ. He said pretty much the same thing as Subban, that he's going to a team that wants him and he's motivated. Plus, he's friends with Henrique. I don't see him going anywhere.

    Montreal saw what happened when Price went down with an injury. The speediness of their team wasn't good enough to play solid, defensive play for when the goalie is gone. Adding Shaw and Weber while removing PK and Eller gives the team more physical force, and allows the team to be much more helpful and take less stress off of Carey Price. Price is the best goalie in the league, but every goalie still needs a team in front of them to help.
