This is a great tune from Steve's first solo album, "Voyage of the Acolyte". Very emotional, slow, dirge-like tune. Beautiful. The original version has Phil Collins on drums.
Caught Hackett’s concert last month in Durham NC and it was incredible, start to finish. Blundell had free reign for what seemed a joyful eternity for a drum solo and absolutely crushed it.
All those old Steve Hackett albums are awesome. I don't know how many times I've played along with this song over the years. The fingers crossed motion is merited.
Awesome! I saw them play this tune just a couple weeks ago here in Seattle. Killer lineup and setlist. Steve Hackett solo tours are not to be missed. This was great, thanks!
Hey, Andrew goes prog! Steve Hackett played amazing lead guitar in the first era of Genesis, this is from his first album in 1975 (or 6..?), Phil did an amazing job. In fact, Mike Rutherford played as well. Great stuff, thanks Andrew and thanks to the patreon for this jewel.
Graig is a monster musician. His brilliant snare drum work probably goes back to his time with The Royal Marines' band. I was lucky enough to have had a two hour one 2 one with Craig! I'm still in recovery!
I had the pleasure of seeing Craig Blundell playing with Steve Hackett last night in Bristol UK and honestly his drumming was out of this world! I've seen him a few times with Steven Wilson so I thought I knew what to expect but boy was I wrong - his drum solo before the final encore piece Los Endos literally blew my mind!! Waking up this morning I was still thinking about how good he had been and knew Mr Rooney would provide some insight. You did :) Thank you!
I remember when Craig arrived at Steven Wilson's crew. He came after Marco on drums, and people immediately started claiming that Craig was no match to Garrison or Marco.... each drummer has his own style! Craig is absolutely brilliant, a true master on drums!
He came after Marco in Steve Hackett's band as well. Marco played only a couple of shows with Hackett (on Cruise to the Edge) while Craig was busy with his last Steven Wilson gigs in 2019.
Dont Hate Me ,( Steven Wilson ) live is another great one with Greg Brundel. Funny you mentioned Miles Davis on that track there is some great interactions between Creig Blundell and Adam Holzman who used to play keyboards with Miles Davis. And dont forget ,Creig Blundell replased Marco Minneman in that line up.
Hi Andrew ! I love the fusion stuff. Another great video, buddy. YES, Grammy for snare tone is in order. As a bass player, I know that a drummer can be judged by their snare tone alone. It's logical that if the snare tone is killer, everything else follows.
To get that sound you have plenty of experience. I always talk with friends how we can hear a great musician instantly. Within 1 bar you can hear the authority and control
The Craig Blundell Signature "The Machine" Snare is for sure the weapon of choice in my arsenal....suits my Black Panther Blaster set just perfectly! I love the Trick throw off!
Craig Blundell is my new favorite drummer. Saw this Hackett's show twice. Couldn't look anywhere else as I was hypnotized by these drums. He is destined to be amongst the very great, just needs more time and exposure. Plus... he gave me his drumsticks at the Guadalajara, Mexico show... yes I could be biased... but I am not!
Would love to finish my Mapex Saturn Pro set; found three drums at a pawnshop years ago but don't have any others presently. The snare is incredible and the two toms (10" and 14") are very nice as well, could use a 20" kick and a couple other toms to go with the stuff I've had since 2017. Remember seeing Craig on a promotional video for Premier and he still tears it up on the drums.
You might enjoy Frank Zappa, He's had some fantastic percussionists. Aynsley Dunbar, Ralph Humphrey, Chester Thompson, Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta & Chad Wackerman. Start with the Black Page drum solo. So many notes the page is black!
Blunders = monster. Video recommendation (redux -- several of us suggested this previously in the Home Invasion comments): the live version of "Towerblock" by Frost*. The studio recording (2016 album "Falling Satellites") included a crazy, stuttery ProTools-neo-dubstep-meets-prog section that most of us Frost*ies thought "yeah, good luck nailing THAT insanity live, gents." Um... they nailed it live.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums -- YW, sir. It's quite the funhouse ride. Leader Jem Godfrey is a brilliant keyboardist, with a great sense of humor, and his ending solo is off the chain chaos. And Craig just burns throughout (and more love for Blunders is always welcome).
Thanks much Andrew from NY, America! Luv ur channel -keep going please. May I suggest Nico McBrain pre Iron Maiden with Pat Travers? Anything from Pat's 2nd & 3rd albums -Making Magic & Putting It Straight. It really showcases Nico's versatility outside of the Maiden realm. ;-}
Love the channel, mate. Please watch The Omnific's drum playthrough of "Sonorous" pt 2...most playthroughs are of the dual bass players.. but this one highlights the drums only. Jerome is killing it .
Hi andrew…small rqst, there is small drummer with big talent his name call Jimith Sirinandana from Sri Lanka…. Just search Jimmy-Rosanna-TOTO- Drum cover you can find him….please do some reaction on him this guy such a gifted boy…i seen eddie moore from him….
Hey Andrew, love the channel and finally I've found somewhere I don't feel a total geek-nerd! Just watched your Craig Blundell Heirophant reaction and thought if you weren't familiar with the piece and more of Steve Hackett's work, it might be nice to check out some more. What I was thinking of is this; th-cam.com/video/ZZPleiedgvo/w-d-xo.html where Gary O'Toole is on the drums. Even if you don't do a reaction video, watch it and be amazed! It's so worth a mug of coffee 👍👍

One of the best things about your channel is exposure to excellent music I probably wouldn't have found on my own. I really appreciate that. Thanks!
GREAT feedback. That's what it's all about!

Yes. I love his humor with crossing the fingers :)
Craig is a very underrated drummer,I have seen him play with Steven Wilson a few times.
He's a sensational drummer Mark
That just blew my mind. This level of drumming is beyond my comprehension.
Me too Phil!
When you see this live you feel the music through your chest as much as through your ears, it is simply awe inspiring.
Awesome! I saw them play this tune just a couple weeks ago here in Seattle. Killer lineup and setlist. Steve Hackett solo tours are not to be missed. This was great, thanks!
Watched this live last night. Stunning
Oh yeah "Blunders" is an amazing, lovely humble fellow.
Unreal!
What an absolute treat! Those fills are just 🔥
Yes Chris!
I love the fact that after hundreds of listenings my brain still thinks it can't keep getting more intense and yet it always does.
Met him before a Wilson show in Toronto, very nice guy and very humble.
That's consistent. That he's a great guy

Silly to compare isn’t it Pauli. Craig is amazing 🙌

This is so cool! Fun to watch too 💯🔥
So good Tristan
Knew you’d dig it! 😎 Craig will go down as one of the greats!
Phenomenal pick Nathan.
DAMN
What gig we gonna check when I get my a** state side?
@@AndrewRooneyDrums great question! There is always something playing in the area!
The drummer is doing all the work
This is cool, first time I see this song from the drummer POV :)
Steve Hackett, Auckland, 17 June. I’m sure Craig is still playing on this delayed leg.
I need to know if Craig is coming down!
