Lots of respect for your willingness to help a quality gunsmith grow his business. Hopefully he’s also taking care of you on price for your own stuff. I know u aren’t promoting to get free or discounted work, but that’s how relationships are supposed to work. One hand washes the other. If we all practice that a little more, we won’t have to rely on “the man” as much as we do. God bless bro.
Rick is a really good friend, and he has been kind to me here and there. But I also believe in supporting (and paying for) honest quality work that is rare to find in niche markets.
It’s weird that people buy combat ready guns and complain about heavy triggers. I liked your analogy about the semi and racecar. People have to realize that a heavy trigger pull in a high stress environment like a war zone or robbery is a must because of adrenaline. I can guarantee in a life and death scenario, someone isn’t going to notice a long reset or double action pull. If that were the case then the military would make it a requirement. What heavy travels really do is help prevent wasting ammo, unintentional discharges, and shooting friendliest. A target shooting competition is the opposite because a trigger pull affect your split times and can make the difference between first and second place.
nah, it's just a bad trigger, that is all. Plenty of combat ready guns with short and crisp SA triggers that don't feel like you're squishing wet noodles out of a can.

Having said that, is their a kit or do I need to purchase each individual part? Appreciate your videos and assistance... Semper Fi, Ken
I'm glad I am not the only one who hated that little bump in the trigger guard. It would always catch my finger. Now I know there's mods to fix that issue which is my only really complaint.
by watching your videos I have learned more and more about the HK P30sk and the other models and will be making HK my first handgun and living in NY only 10 rounds promising to only load 7
the only thing i have added to my vp9 is TROGLO TFX SIGHT SI I CAN RACK THE SLIDE OFF MY CARRY BELY, AFTER HAVING A STROKE this is a great video , thank you for making it.
Got a HK USP 40 a few months ago, and love it. Its a Variant 7 LEM model. I wanna get a P30L or VP9 next and cant decide which. Really want a Mark 23 but they are stupid expensive hah.
Good to know I am not far off from a true professional. At least in reset length, I am sure his feel is much better. My P30S reset was just terrible, keep in mind my USP expert 45 is my favorite range gun so you know the difference. Luckily I am a machinist and knew exactly what was causing the issue. About an hour later I had a beautiful reset with proper retention of all safety features minus the actual thumb safety due to my using a standard p30 control lever. I like to rest my firing hand thumb on the lever and the S model has shorter slide release levers. Glad I just ran into your channel man, right up my alley! Keep up the good content
I'm glad you were able to make it work. I know what you mean about the P30 reset. It is a trade-off because that gun has been rigorously tested to failure, and it took some 91,000 rounds. That's hard to criticize. Still a competent gunsmith and a little TLC can make the trigger takeup and reset a lot more enjoyable.
Keep up the good work Sean..... look forward to your vids like these discussing HK products, modifications, enhancements , etc.... BTW, any idea of Rick' s current lead times on action work?
No idea on Rick's lead times. Best thing is to just reach out to him www.seangoboom.com/lwg he is constantly turning out new work. He's very reliable as a person and as a gunsmith. Meaning, he will get back to you, and won't make you wait for a year like the "Brand X" gunsmith I mentioned in the video.
I really appreciate that. Just one video at a time. That's all I'm going for. Some will be more interesting and better than others, but all of them are important for me to produce because all of these "tools" are what make my passion possible.
@2:25, I'm having the exact same issue with my HK45. I'm not asking for the company that did your trigger work to cause that; however, can you specify what exactly the problem was and how it was fixed by Lazy Wolf Guns? Thank you!
Really enjoy your videos. Just plain simple useable information. I own a couple P-30L weapons. One has the LEM the other doesn't. My question is this, do they make a flat trigger for the P-30? I have them on my, well, the OTHER German pistols. You know, the 320. The flat trigger really made a difference with my shooting. Thanks.
Owning a couple M1 PPQ's & a P99C AS along with a VP9SK the trigger resets & breaks look very similar to my stock Walther's. A P30SK is next purchase so does a guy go for the V1 or V3 trigger? The more I see recently it seems I may go V1 LEM. Great video here.
Just so you know, I know this and the previous USP posts are four years old. That said, I have the same issue with my USP which I bought new in the year 2000. The factory trigger was not an issue when I was 46. It is a problem at almost 69. I want to improve the DA trigger pull. There are no Universal LEM Kits available from any source I have contacted, including HKParts. A "short reset" mod is available which smooths the DA pull, but, does not reduce the weight significantly. Is the "short reset" worth doing? Do you have any suggestions for sourcing a LEM trigger kit? Are there trigger modifications other than these that would at least partially solve my delima? I am in dire need of assistance. Can you help, please?
Varied lengths of pull for different hand sizes, color options for personal preferences, flexibility in adjusting break-point tension, pre-travel preferences, and a desire to tinker and experiment because this is America and we don't need a reason. If you don't like the VP9, why are you so worried about it?
You can if you want. It doesn't make much sense to decoct the LEM trigger since the whole point is keeping the hammer in the pre-cocked state for that super light long initial uptake.
Hey Sean, is it ok to run the Lazy Wolf triggers with the titanium striker and the match grade springs from HK parts? I’ve asked a few times but haven’t had any luck with anyone replying. Thanks buddy!
Wonderful videos Sean...thank you... Do you have and comments or info on the 3 drop in trigger options that LWG offers for the VP9 and how each trigger may be appropriate for a specific shooter? From the curved...flat faced and full flat faced. The descriptions on Hk parts is not sufficient for a active range shooter like myself to make an educated decision. Thank you kindly Dave
I do. I have the full flat on three of my VP guns. It breaks straight up and down instead of at a backwards cant. That means it feels like a 1911 trigger and mitigates the risk of missing the target when "mashing" the trigger. It makes me more accurate. I like it a lot. Should a VP9L ever come out, I would heavily consider running that with the full flat trigger in some matches. The other two are variations on the same concept and will produce better trigger control results. The curved is particularly good for those with short fingers. My wife will be running one on her competition VP9 within a month.
@@SeanGoBoom thank you kindly for your time Sean, great information. For a paper target shooter only like myself and not a comp shooter like you, which (if any) would you suggest. I have normal size dude hands. Saying none is OK too! Tks Dave
Both my hk uspc 40 which I converted to lem and my p2000 which I bought with lem have fantastic triggers EXCEPT they break so far back that I can't shoot them worth a damn, vs very tight groupings I get out of my cz and tanfo witness pistols.
@@SeanGoBoom I got the F3! It looks great with a little red highlight that's for sure. I'm looking for a gunsmith in Canada that could possibly get some work done for me
hello I have a vp9 and I will like to know if something can be done on the slide to make it easier to pull I used to have a Taurus pt809 and I was able to pull that slide back with no effort at all and with the vp9 is really hard to do any suggestions as up what to buy do or were to go to take care of this? Thanks
Thank you for the advice at 8:45. I just picked up a vp9 and to be honest I think the trigger is pretty damn good. But I don't have a whole lot of experience so I will take your advice as offered. For future reference though I would like to know how much the vp9 trigger job would be.... unless that drop in part you were referencing has already come out. Thanks.
Yeah. There are even police departments that have changed from Glock to the VP9 because of that safety feature. A lot of dumb people have had a round in the chamber when they've removed their mags and started to field strip their guns and caused NDs and it is nice to just remove that variable from the core design of the gun itself.
They say the loudest sound is a “click” when you need a “boom”. The second loudest is a “BOOM” when you expect a “click”. A LOT of ND’s with Glocks are traceable to people preparing to field strip their Glocks (and XD’s) . I have a friend who actually put a 9mm hollow point right through his left hand that way (and of course ignoring all four of the safety rules).
Hey Sean! What is the process for getting something to Rick to work on? I realize you've got an inside connection but for the masses how do we do it? Keep the videos coming!
Just contact Lazy Wolf www.seangoboom.com/lwg via email and start the conversation. Tell Rick I sent you :) and he'll give you lead times and pricing pretty quick. He is good to respond within a day or so.
Gray Guns did the work. HK VP9 Striker Full Action Smoothing & Tuning. But it doesn't like extended mags now for some odd reason. Shoots like a dream. Almost close to my $3500 2011
Ugh, so sorry to hear that. I'll give you one guess who the "brand x" gunsmith is that I mention in the video. It shouldn't not be working with extended mags. Send it to Rick at Lazy Wolf Guns. He'll get you dialed in, and I guarantee he'll give your gun a once-over to make sure they didn't mess it up.
Glad I was able to validate who I thought "Brand X" was. Had heard a lot of good things about GG for both Sig and HK...but since Rick departed, I think that may be the better route to go for HK work. Thanks Sean. Keep up with the videos! Love them.
hey was that SUPS in some of those action shots?! I actually chose the VP over P30 specifically because I didn't like how long the trigger reset was, makes me somewhat wish I watched this video and the LEM video before making that decision. not that I am unhappy with the VP! speaking of, do you think the lobos trigger makes the gun less safe other than the disassembly issue? I really wanted to try out a solid metal trigger, assuming that was the "competitor's triggers" you were talking about
@@SeanGoBoom i got the F3! sorry for the late reply, i'm horrible about reading these. my god the install was a bitch but i finally finished it! can you recommend a guy for getting the slide milled for aimpoint acro? i am slowly converting my VP40 to a roland style setup for competition and home defense.
If you have an LEM trigger installed, a decocker isn't necessary. That's like having a kickstand on a semi-truck. So... maybe it technically can, but why?
I use the USP Expert in Tac-Ops division in 3-Gun and Limited division in USPSA. The mag well needs to be removed if you want to run it in Production. I don't shoot IDPA... no desire. So I'm not familiar with their restrictions.
There are so many custom Kydex holster companies out there these days that it is hard to miss. Try LAG Tactical for a build that works for you. They do AMAZING custom work for me. I use them for all my stuff that Safariland can't accommodate.
I came here looking for trigger answers for a p30sk. I'm mystified why the p30's have such long reset. It seems when people judge triggers, the reset length is the highest priority, and pistols under $400 (canik) have much shorter resets. Why is this? Who would want such a long reset?
Simple answer is the P30 passes both the NATO and German federal drop tests for service pistols. Look them up, they’re pretty severe, arguably more severe than the standard US testing protocols. The reset is an artifact of the safety systems needed to pass those tests. Not to say one that Lone Wolf has modified is “unsafe” in any way, they are acclaimed for their reliability, but that’s what the HK engineers did to ensure reliability and safety in the military and federal testing.
I'm not into publicly shaming anyone (usually). The Internet has made so many once black and white social standards into a *cough* gray *cough* area. So, I say we should complement in public and criticize in private. The video is there to accentuate and highlight the work of a master gun smith that has made my game stronger because of his unique and unmatched skill set.
I was thinking about getting the USP expert 9mm, but I'm just curious, do you think the design is at all dated? Maybe it's just the aesthetics that make me think it is I'm not sure...the only thing about it that I legitimately dislike is no pic rail.
It is an incredibly proven platform. Tested to hell and back. Dated? Why? Because of a pic rail? (Or lack thereof, rather). No. Not at all. 1) I'm not a fan of having things mounted to my pistol unless I need it for a very specific application. 2) there are pic rail adapters for the USP family of guns 3) Aesthetics are funny. I used to not like the looks of BMWs, then I drove a 5-series... then I bought a 5-series. I fell in love with the way they looked after that. I didn't used to like the look of the USP line. I think the P30 / VP9 / HK45 lines look sexier... but then I started shooting this USP Expert and it has just grown on me. To me, now, it is the sexiest pistol I could imagine. I can't go a day without touching her. When I sent all 3 of my USP Experts away for maintenance at the end of my competition season last month, I went through withdrawals. I shot local matches with my P30L competition pistol I used to use before I switched... and it just wasn't the same. So, I mean... "dated" is a fashion thing. It is an on-looker thing. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but effectiveness is in the hands of the practitioner. To me, the tool that helps me execute to the best of my ability is the most beautiful
@@SeanGoBoomThanks for the insight. What are your thoughts on his short reset kit? Any experience with it? Some people on the forums and on TH-cam have positive things to say about the kit, but I doubt any of them are putting as many rounds through their pistols as you. I figured the kit is drop in, it either works or it doesn't, and it doesn't require any permanent mods. The only risk is the cost and of course voiding a warranty - but that goes anytime a modification of any sort is done.
I have a feeling your follow up question was clearly already answered in Sean’s answer above. I’ve never had an issue with any parts I’ve bought from GG, but I would not be inclined to send an HK there these days, based on lead times and current reputation. In the big scheme of things this is a small community and word travels fast. I will say, GG seems to still have a good rep when it comes to SIG parts and pistols. Hope they address whatever their issues may be, in the past Bruce Gray was THE HK guy.
Lazy Wolf is your first and last stop! Rick worked trigger magic on my P2000 and it's "slicker than deer guts on a door knob" . Reset is aces, and the double action is a dream! Now I can compare it to my Sig Legion 9mm.
I don't like the design of the P2000. I'm from germany, and live 2 hours away from HK holding by the way. In my state the P2000 is the service Pistol of the Police. I like HK but I think they have could chosen another model from HK.
Just sent my VP9 in to LWG to have he flat face trigger installed along with lightening up the trigger for competition, so you think it’s worth it to do the PFTE treatment for a novice competition shooter? Like will I even notice and/or really extend the life of the work? Thanks!
My wife's VP9 has the trigger work and the new C1 competition trigger. The combination is amazing. I didn't want to stop shooting it when we picked the thing up last month. She had to remind me that it is HER pistol.
I finally had to sand down the "hump" inside my trigger guard. My finger was almost blistered from rubbing against that "hump". I still don't understand its purpose.
I had that done on my P30s. Rick Holm does a great job at that. It was originally conceived by Larry Vickers. In fact they call it the "Vickers Mod" if you have it done.
Love the HKP30SK but why are 15 rd mags impossible to get? Doesnt HK want to make money? I like the HKP30SK because the striker VP9SKs tend to pinch my Long fingers as does most sissor fired triggers. Both are great weapons. Now ir HK offered them in burnt bronze finishes .LOL!
I petty the fool who pulls up on him & his wife. That would be the perfect example of a "you picked the wrong ones today" situation!! BTW, nice vid, appreciate the info! On the LW website now!!
I just brought a p30l..I couldn't believe how much plastic this gun is.. sorry I'm still in love with it so far lol.. made me appreciate my sig 320.. update..I feel stupid I found out the rails are over molded with polymer..I really looks like it's all plastic
Polymer is a material used in all modern handguns. Unless you are competing and in need of a steel frame, polymer is the way of the present (and future). Get used to it.
I have a 94 year usp40 thats broken in nicely and crazy smooth but the trigger is a bit squishy and I honestly cant afford his trigger work haha. As a professional hk guy should I get the match trigger kit or the lem for it? I have never shot an lem and have not been able to find one local. BTW as good as your videos are I couldn't believe you didnt have atleast 20x the followers you do. Thank man!
Thanks for the kind words. The only thing that is different about the match trigger over the regular trigger is the little screw in the back that let's you adjust for over-travel, and a better hammer spring. I have the match trigger kit in mine with a stock (normal) USP trigger and an LEM kit (plus all the work Rick did to fine tune it. I would forego the match trigger because it is a metal screw in a plastic trigger that will inevitably wear over time. With as many rounds as I do, in a season, I've already replaced it once on a couple of my guns. In my opinion, it is a stupid feature that you can just train around. If you don't have it, you aren't used to it, so don't bother. I LOVE the LEM conversion. Before the VP9 came out, all of the guys in the team were shooting LEM guns (P30Ls mostly). So long story short, I think you'd be fine with an LEM conversion and I think you'll love it. Another middle ground idea would be to just send it to Rick for a tune up. He can tell you what parts need to be replaced and give your gun a new lease on life by taking out some of the slack.
Oh, and as far as followers go. This TH-cam account is very new. My social stronghold is on Instagram. Lots of followers and content there if you want to check it out. instagram.com/sean.go.boom/
Hey Sean! I need your help buddy. My trigger return spring on my V2 P2000 LEM has broken twice now (not even 150 rounds through the gun, all of it happened under dry fire) My theory: I wasn't fully dry-firing the gun, I was just playing with the "take-up/play" however you wanna put it with the LEM. I think that put constant overpressure on the trigger return spring and broke the bottom part of it off, twice. Second time was because my pops insisted on using ground-down needle nose pliers, we ordered the actual tool for it from HKParts.net (which happens to be down the street from us) I ordered some groovy nickle-plated and orange snap caps and plan on not playing with the lem like before, just pulling through to the break and putting 250 rounds of 40 thourhg it as soon as i put in the next spring. Id love to know your thoughts. Your mate, -J PS: Thanks again for all the great advice!
Hey Sean, I am a reasonably experienced shooter and plan on getting work done on my P30 by Rick. I cant decide if I want to go with the 4-4.5 or 5-5.5 weight of pull. I carried a 1911 for 8 years and have carried the V1 P30 for about 5 years. I do not do competitions. Any advice to steer me in a good direction.
Rick is great to consult with on that. I don’t see why a 4 lbs trigger pull would be a problem with the LEM configuration. Like anything else training is the most important element here.
Thank you for your honesty. I'm glad it was that interesting for you. Unfortunately it is a bit long, so I hope your legs didn't fall asleep too bad when the video was over and you were able to walk just fine. Also, I hope you washed your hands and properly sanitizing your phone after cleaning yourself. I want you to be health and have many years of shooting ahead of you.

Tks
Dave
Hey found your channel late. hopefully you see this. can your boy convert a var 3 decocker/safety usp to an LEM with no safety?
Both my hk uspc 40 which I converted to lem and my p2000 which I bought with lem have fantastic triggers EXCEPT they break so far back that I can't shoot them worth a damn, vs very tight groupings I get out of my cz and tanfo witness pistols.
Any hope for those of us with a USP9?
Yeah.
I have a HK45 acp Full size would love to know how to get a trigger job done for me guys and how much would it cost and I went to
I really want to get the VP9 (SFP9 in my case) trigger job done but I live in Canada D: I imported the drop in trigger tho. It's awesome.
That's great! Which one did you get?
@@SeanGoBoom
I got the F3!
Thanks
Do you think the LEM triggers are good for carry? I’ve been considering getting it installed in one of my carry p30s
That used to be my exact carry setup for a decade... P30 with the LEM trigger. Not sure why you think they wouldn't be safe for carry.
The decocker is in an odd position why didn’t they do em like the USP ?
Don't ask "why" about HK things. It'll drive you crazy.
Thanks.
Vp9 or p30???
The answer to your question is “yes.”
@seanburrows is this a good upgrade option for a carry gun with the LEM variant?
That's what I did when I carried an HK.
Who would I send an HK P30L into for that LEM trigger specifically and how much does it cost/how long does it take?
Reach out to Lazy Wolf Guns and get a quote.
What p30l decocker sights you like Dawson's good I like the black back fiber front
It is a common setup for competition. Not really useful in a tactical situation though.
Hey Sean, what is the reason for the (not pulling the trigger to get the slide off) safety feature??
The VP9 trigger is the best when comparing it to the nuclear fallout the other triggers are. It still is trash, but its 'good' for a striker gun.
Question.... Can your wife's VP9 run extended mags?? Since I've had work done to mine, it hates extended mags
Who did the “work” and what did you have done? All she ever runs in competition are the extended msgs.
I really wanted to try out a solid metal trigger, assuming that was the "competitor's triggers" you were talking about
The Lobos trigger is old news. You want the Lazy Wolf Guns F2, F3, or C1 triggers designed by Rick Holm.
What holster are you using that accommodates the Match weight?
A custom solution by LAG Tacticl
Thanks Sean!
Can an LEM trigger be installed on a USP Compact 9mm and still retain the decocker?
If you have an LEM trigger installed, a decocker isn't necessary. That's like having a kickstand on a semi-truck. So... maybe it technically can, but why?
Do you compete in IDPA with your expert? What else do you compete in with your expert?
I use the USP Expert in Tac-Ops division in 3-Gun and Limited division in USPSA. The mag well needs to be removed if you want to run it in Production. I don't shoot IDPA... no desire. So I'm not familiar with their restrictions.
Sean what's a good owb carry holster that won't wiggle and $hit with kore belt. Just edc thanks
Saw your videos so much it sold me on the lem and I have fallen back in love with my P30L all over again. That trigger reset though how does he do it?
Master magicians never reveal their secrets, but they will perform their tricks for you. Call Rick for a trigger trick. LOL
Nice! Thank you for that vid!
My pleasure.
Tomorow Im going to buy p30 :-)
Who was the original gunsmith that messed up the P30 trigger? It also appeared to have PTFE coating on the parts so I'm pretty sure I know who it was.
I love the feel of the P30 but then I pulled the trigger. It isn’t the reset that felt so horrible what is it and can it be made better?
Rick Holm at Lazy Wolf Guns + an LEM conversion kit can make it amazing.
I just picked up a USP 40 Compact. It’s gonna need a little TLC.
So who did you send your gun off to first? Most people recommend Bruce Gray or Gray Guns for HK pistols. Curious if it was them or someone else.
Tried Bruce first. I wouldn’t trust him or his operation with a paper clip let alone another one of my firearms again. Ever.
What sites should I put on my p30? any suggestions.
Depends on the application. Carry, target, competition... for most general purposes the ones on there are great. I use the Trijicon HD night sights.
Sean, what do you think of the P2000?
I love both of the P2000s I own. It is mechanically identical to the P30, but in a USP style body. Great gun.

What is the pull weight on the vp9 after Rick does the trigger work?
They are readily available on the HK webshop. I don't know what your definition of impossible is, but they've been in stock for a long time.
Good stuff. Thanks.
Glad you like it!
I petty the fool who pulls up on him & his wife. That would be the perfect example of a "you picked the wrong ones today" situation!! BTW, nice vid, appreciate the info! On the LW website now!!
did you get the merkle tuning weight for your USP expert/elite just like youtuber LifeSizePotato???
That is a match weight by matchweight.com
Sean Burrows I see, thank you for your reply
No problem!
So I just bought a P30. I want to use it as a defense gun. What do you recommend done? Should I even send it in?
I had mine converted to LEM and had Rick do the works on it. You won’t regret it. He does amazing work.
Hi, is there any way I can get the hkparts.net stuff in Switzerland? I want the compensator soooo bad.
You'll have to ask them.

How can I contact Rick?

Sean Burrows thank you so much👍
Hey Sean! I need your help buddy. My trigger return spring on my V2 P2000 LEM has broken twice now (not even 150 rounds through the gun, all of it happened under dry fire)
My theory: I wasn't fully dry-firing the gun, I was just playing with the "take-up/play" however you wanna put it with the LEM. I think that put constant overpressure on the trigger return spring and broke the bottom part of it off, twice. Second time was because my pops insisted on using ground-down needle nose pliers, we ordered the actual tool for it from HKParts.net (which happens to be down the street from us)
I ordered some groovy nickle-plated and orange snap caps and plan on not playing with the lem like before, just pulling through to the break and putting 250 rounds of 40 thourhg it as soon as i put in the next spring.
Id love to know your thoughts.
Your mate,
-J
PS: Thanks again for all the great advice!
You need to reach out to Rick Holm at Lazy Wolf Guns.
Excellent Video!!! Thanks for this video!!!! Atte: Pedro LEON
Glad you like it.
An HK or Glock : just shoot it stock, and if you can't do that, go practice more often
