Dude this is awesome I can't wait for it. If it's not too complicated it would be so cool to see something like the different colors change when cycling through shulk's monado arts, or intense glowing when cloud's limit break has been reached. Either way I'm super excited for this it's a great addition to all the mods we have already!
I have not made a shulk mode yet, but I really like the sounds of what you're cooking up!
the yway it could work is when you hold B and push a direction afterwards it will light up in the corresponding color for each art and then stay that way until either N-B is pushed 3 times or the time runs out. how robust are the possibilities for the lights?

I'd love to see an animation set for Hero in Ultimate, he is in my opinion one of the more colorfully flashy characters who I think this would work great with. All of his directional specials have a distinct color while pressing down and B could result in a rainbow effect? Anyways, love this and wish you all the best, great video as usual!

It took me a while to figure out what the heck i was doing, but its a skill I am so glad I have now. It really make doing things so much easier.
Everybody is talking about the mod and all but am I the only one noticing the big jump from buttons, to switch pro controllers grips, to PS5 controller clips and now suddenly controller shells? This is freaking awesome!!! When are we getting more details about this? Next thing console shells :P ? Really nice! Your video's are inspiring :D

I'm curious though, how exactly does the character mode work? Does the controller actually know which character is being played and the led pcb interprets the data? Crazy cool
I would love to get it up and running on pro controllers, but installation will be much harder.
So for character mode, each board would come with a the character of your choosing. Unfortunately there is no way for the controller to know who you are playing as... but if there were a way to do that.... man would that be so cool!
@@RockerGaming Ah that makes sense, I guess the only way to figure out which character is being used is to some hacky stuff on the console, which is probably not desirable haha.
On another note, do you design the entire PCB yourself? Placement, routing and all that?
@@Sundaybrawl Yes I did. The I did all the PCB design work. I am not an electrical engineer by trade, but I do have all my work reviewed by an actual EE who does pcb design for a living. Its nice to be able to have someone who can help you out!

This looks sick! Any idea on price points? A common critique of custom controllers is the pricing to get into it can be high so i’m curious how much the parts will cost
I dont 100% know yet, but the goal is for it to be sub $50 for a kit. Again, a lot needs to happen before now and then but the goal from the start was to make this as accessible as possible which extends from the install of the mod to the price point.

I've got a couple questions that may help you guys along the way.
1 being, does this mod work with multiple controllers? I can see player 2+ having issues with finding out what to follow.
And 2, could there be a mode for generic button usage. E.g. holding smash attacks flashes red, tilts are green, jumps are white, ect. I think this would be a good inclusion for if there's any incompatibility with characters or just so there's a standard for people who don't want tailored colours or flashes for each move.

So the short answer is yes. the long answer is oem gamecube adapter is very complex in the way it polls the controller and we have been down a rabbit hole to make sure multiple controllers work. As for knowing who to follow, each kit would be tailored for a specific character. The data to know who you're playing as isn't passed along to the controller. Its part of the reason why we wanted to include so many modes.
@@RockerGaming okay that all makes sense, as a followup to my second question really is this sort of "universal" input to light system something you'd do? For myself it's something I'd definitely use mostly as I feel it sort of ties colours and inputs in uniform.
We can look into it for sure. We opted to not include tilts as a space saving method but I do like the idea and I think it has a lot of merit!!

I have mentioned in a previous video regarding my convern that you are using UV leds, and that exposure to UV light for long periods of time CAN (and is very likely to) result in DNA damage (potentially CANCER). The poly eurathane shell will NOT offer any protection and by turning off the lights this would defeat the purpose of the mod. I was wondering if you would considering using polarized shells or lights other than UV leds. Having said this, this the work that was done for this mod is absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to see more from you guys.
Jesse, I appreciate that there is no use of UV with this modification so we should be all set, this uses basic RGB leds :)

Perhaps some open source logic could be applied to this projects source code for community lighting profiles. I have some ideas that would be fun to Implement
I would love to hear more about it. The plan wasn't to open source the source code on the project but id be happy to try to get some of your ideas implemented. Eventually id love to have a more user adaptable/customizable option but it would require new hardware and code to allow for that.
@@RockerGaming im not sure how much memory the microcontroller has but the first thing that came to mind is having a color picker mode. Dpad for scrubbing over the pallet and an extra button for changing the base color. other things could be a way to program the microcontroller with software via a connection to the board that has the microcontroller either through a dedicated connection or less likely, through some of the GC cable pins (though i dont remember the pinout for the gc controller)

I think you guys need to make a generic response lighting mode so all characters can be covered and it can be used in other games. even though I think the Idea of character specific lighting effects is super cool, outside of tournaments, I really don't see a point in going for that level of lighting effects for just one game and it not having much use everywhere else. Sadly I wish there was a way for the mod to read what's happening on screen and matching the actions that the controller is effecting but that just might not be possible with the Ye old Gamecube controller.
100% I agree with you and we have modes that will be generic in nature to address this exact matter. Your assessment of the GCC is spot on too. The only communication from the console to the controller is the console asking the controller what is your state (i.e. what buttons are pressed) the consoles communication does not include what is on screen. It makes the programming process a bit more tedious, but it also means you 100% need generic animations!
@@RockerGaming Only thing I could think of would be to make a mod for the Gamecube adapters to send info to the controller to add this functionality. but that might be more work then it's worth putting into.

Oh man... its a silly number at this point, lol. Ive gone through gallons and gallons of resin at this point and a set of buttons uses less than 50 ml of resin 😂

We are working to bring this to other controllers and have another already penciled in, pro controller is not as high on the list as it would require microsoldering, but we are actively considering what else we need to port this to.
