The white asparagus is amazing. It tastes nothing like the green one and is lovely with a garlic mayo dip. My son in law is from Malaga and I love a good shopping spree in Spanish supermarkets
As a retired supermarket worker, it's interesting to see the prices in Europe, some very different to the UK. On a different note, a while ago you did a video of the Ben Nevis North Face walk. Well, inspired by you, I finally managed the walk to the CIC hut and back. A brilliant walk, so glad I saw your video, Thank you for the inspiration.

Mercadona is my favourite Spanish supermarket, they have really good fresh bakery products, and pick and mix small cakes which are sold by weight, which is quite dangerous
Sí que es cierto que rompe las normas. Solo hay un pero, yo siempre me he preguntado si los obreros que recogen las frutas y verduras se ponen guantes. Sobre todo me empiezo a preocupar más si los productos proceden de paises de fuera de la EU.
The first cheese you chose is called chusco, it is one of the good ones, but of course it depends on each person's palate. As for the beer, I couldn't tell you, I don't usually drink much, maybe "the Molen Bier" I have been told about the Alhambra but I have never tried it, I guess as an Andalusian I am from the non-drinking club.
European supermarkets often seem much cheaper than mine in Northeast US (a very expensive area), but this one, not as much. Except olive oil! Holy cow, it's about 1/2 price there; of course it's local. And baked goods in Europe seem practically free.
Hi Scott from a non-touristy part of Spain. It is a pity you went to expensive supertmarkets and not one of the multiples such as Mercadona where you'd have found prices 50 -75 % of those you saw.
I was told that food prices are very cheap in Spain, not really! But then again, Malaga is a tourist place so they can put whatever price they want according to the amount of people visiting. Here where I live in Austria, people are complaining about the prices but I saw several items you showed in Spain that were more expensive than here!
I watch Survival Lilly from Austria and she says that the middle class is being turned into working class due to price increases. Seems bad at the moment in Austria.
I think in Spain you need to shop around. There are some wonderful products, like Cabra and Iberico, but a lot of products which are very competitive in the YUK, like yoghurt, are dominated by multinationals. Choice is constrained and prices high. Things like babybel cheese and Hagen Daz I have always found very expensive in Spain. The fresh produce is often better quality, and even convenience cook chill produce is often interesting. But direct comparison with YUK is not easy. We import a lot of produce, so we have to put up with supply chain delays. And prices are low for some things ( pineapples are £1 each in the YUK, not sold by the kilo ), so its only to be expected that producers will sell higher quality merch in places they fetch the highest price.
@@davidb8205 where is the YUK just out of interest? I can't work out if you have a distaste for the UK, your autocorrect is playing up, or it's some country code I haven't heard of (although you are using £ for currency)
Holy cow their fresh produce is dirt cheap and really high quality too. We Canadian pay at least double this price per kilogram. Some of the food is so expensive it's sold by the 100 grams
Tell that to the child who picked up an iced doughnut, denied by mother, child licked said iced doughnut, put it back on shelf (popular German store) as for fruit and veg MOST people will boil, or will peel the fruit and veg
I had a host when I studied abroad in Madrid in 2022. Thus, I'd mostly get snacks at the alimentaciones, or independent corner stores. However, I did go into the store across from the main campus of the university (at Arguelles), A type of Carefour I beleive. A lot nicer than any American store I've seen (although Wegmans, which is based out of New York but are all over the Mid-Atlantic now, is close on the aesthetic quality). Being in the city, it had a basement where most things were-they had the deli, hot bar, and I think alcohol at street level and most everything else downstairs...but there was a refrigerated wall upstairs near the checkstands/tills. I also went into the Sol and Callao Corte Ingles stores and lived near the flagship store in Nuevos Ministerios (I would pass it to take the train down to Parque Warner twice, all the way to Aranjuez once, and then returning from Parque Europa in Terrjon via the Recoltes tunnel because I decided to cut class because getting back to Torrejon took a lot longer than expected. Only one of maybe 2 or 3 times I missed/cut a class in my college years for the sake of it (other time was I hated the teacher I had when I took Comp for the first time. One day, I picked my battles because I felt a little iffy, but I may have legit cut. I also almost missed a class because my alarm didn't work in J-term, but we still had virtual option, so problem evaded). This does not include times where I was legit sick and took a whole day off from class or optional class on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (many teachers don't like that they only give us Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Black Friday in the fall term)
sometimes I'm surprised how much Spanish I understand without speeking it. (but I speak French and Italian on an intermediate level). Just a small correction: jamon is ham, not bacon.
Hi from a Spaniard! Just a couple of comments! First, the prices you are showing here, are cheap almost the half, in comparison with the prices on Madrid, especially the tomatoes and remaining fruits. Second comment, it's a bit funny for me to see the selection of aliments you choose, they are not a typical mediterrean diet 😂
I can't believe you went to two supermarkets in Spain and didn't show us the wine section to compare prices to the UK, only beers and an odd whisky. Nice video all the same.
I'm off to Germany at the end of August and will stay there for two weeks. Of course I'll go to a supermarket and, of course, I;'ll bring plenty back and as I'm driving I don't have to worry about the 100ml rule. The 100ml rule, by the way, will soon change to 2 litre to take into the cabin. I believe this is already the case at Luton airport.
Fresh asparagus is a delight but those white ones in jars are not even close and since Brexit the standard of fruit and veg imported into the UK has deteriorated markedly not surprisingly as they get their own back.
Wben I went to Krakow for three days I visited the supermarket in the local shopping centre at least twice a day, such a huge range and so cheap, puts our supermarkets to shame

I think you are going to be in for a shock when you get to Australia and see how expensive things are in our supermarkets. But you won't notice that because in m9st states supermarkets are not allowed to sell alcohol.
I have paid almost one euro for one Orange in Barcelona shops...not all is cheaper in Spain...cauliflower can be 3 euros each...Catalonia is expensive.
