  • The Messina Strait, the famous Greek theatre of Taormina, the archeological sites of Segesta and Selinunte, the marvellous Catania, the unique monastery and temple of Monreale, the picturesque Cefalu and Ragusa are all worth taking a look on the largest island of the Mediterranean Sea. The romantic Sicily, an island very rich in monuments and natural beauties, enchants every visitor. Let us take a walk on the streets of the capital, Palermo, let us refresh ourselves on the beach of Mondello, take a slide in the famous Citta del Mare, and go to the ever-foggy Erice using the cableway. We can enjoy the sicilian blood-oranges, drink a capuccino among the walls of Syracuse, and finally, take a walk to the still active Etna volcano.

My family went to Sciacca, Sicily. Both my maternal grandparents were from that town. My grandfather's family was originally from Spain about 150 years ago, we believe. They came from Catalonia. Our family, though identifies with our Sicilian roots. Our parents were all born here but taught us and lived by Italian/Sicilian tradition. We used a travel company called "The Thinking Traveler". They are based in London but they set up trips to Italy and Sicily as well as some other European countries. My husband's family was from Naples and the surrounding area. But I think it was my husband who fell in love with Sicily most. He hired a historian "Michele" who was fantastic and helped us find our grandfather's childhood home. (my great grandparents home). It was abandoned but it still has the wrought iron initials of my great grandfather a top the doorway. We were all so emotional when we saw it! I recommend to everyone a trip to Sicily. I wanted to go there more than anyplace in Italy. We were going to go again this year but my health is not good right now. We are going back next year God willing!

How lucky you are to have found your roots and I salute your husband for helping you. My story is somewhat similar, although I was born in the city of Palermo in the La Vucciria. My parents died shortly after we moved to Bensonhurst Brooklyn so my brother and I were left to survive on our own. However, before my parents died they took us back to Palermo every summer so we developed a great affection for our heritage ! I have dear friends who encourage me to move back which I am in the process of doing ( my friend Manny is from Napoli and his wife is from Bagheria Sicily and they are both very bright and they always tell me, Patzy follow your heart and you can’t go wrong ! So I wish you good health and I hope God allows you to go back to Sicily many times to where your heart is !

Sicily used to be part of Greece, but it also used to be part of many other civilizations. Sicily is uniquely SICILIAN due to this mix of cultures, and not just Greek!

Greeks are just one of the people stabilished there.
Sicily was NEVER part of greece, some greeks went to live there, they was completely independent from their original place.

Beautiful scenery...I was born there and relish every scene. However, if you're going to narrate these videos, you MUST learn the proper pronunciation of people's names and the city names. Pronouncing these incorrectly detracts from the beauty of the video. Irrespective of these faults, thank you for the beautiful video of my beautiful Sicilia and of my hometown...la Bella Siracusa.

See you too much tv, be careful to go to new york, you may meet the godfather, sicily has 3000 years of history, and the only land where Greek temples are still intact, and roman amphitheatres make music, you need to continue but .... ... seeing is believing. (Italy without Sicily leaves no picture in the spirit. Here is the key to everything) "Goethe"
