    Another great video. Reminds me of what I need to be doing next weekend when the temps get super low.

    Thanks Steve for a great video! I learn something new every time you post something up! Bought the Ampro off Amazon before I finished your video. It’s another “gotta have” tool that we need to keep these coach’s maintained!

    Had something similar when I was in Hazmat with Chicago Fire Department. Ours was so sensitive that we used to test ours by having a Firefighter stand out on the apron and have the other firefighter with the instrument at the back of the apparatus floor with a blindfold on and search for the firefighter spraying the can. Took a little time but found it.

    Steve, this was a really interesting video. I knew that Newell provides redundant air compressors and often wondered why. I suppose having hundreds of fittings means leaks that make that redundancy a requirement.

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Duncan. Actually, the reason for twin compressors is for redundancy of failure. Since Newells rely on air pressure for the BODE entry door and seals, having a functioning compressor is critical. Should one seize or have a major issue, a manual changeover switch keeps you going.
      Newell builds redundancy on most critical functions.

      My pleasure. I was thinking that the redundancy of compressors was due to failure resulting from more runtime than a system that had fewer leaks. Either way, I love redundant systems! 🙂 @@RVSquaredSteve

    Great video Steve! I had a leak on my galley to bedroom air door that I luckily heard with just my ear… it was behind Newell’s cabinetry cover so your detector would have been very helpful. Happy new year!

      Phew...glad ya found it Paul! Those air doors are a bugger since the fittings can be hard to get too. I know of one gent who tackled EVERY ONE of them, including the Emergency Valves...and the pay-off was GREAT!

    Steve, always love your videos. We’re kicking the tires and doing research for a future purchase. Love the Newell and will probably settle there.
    Question: I have serious back issues that prevent me from doing most of my maintenance. Can I have a mechanic do a thorough search and replacement and how often should I do that?
    We plan to purchase a new or almost new coach. Thanks again and Happy New Year.

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kenny, I feel your pain...literally! Tackling air fittings isn't a Newell-specific procedure. There are plenty of good truck mechanics that perform this all time, albeit on MUCH less complicated rigs. Many of them, however, would use liquid leak solution...aka soapy water...which as I state, I'm not a fan of in all places. But, once the fitting is replaced with the DOT COMPRESSION style, it should outlast both you and the coach.

    Steve!! Happy New Year! Another great video. I had a big leak in the wastemaster system just the other day. I had to actuate the deploy/retract switch a few times to stop it. Now to find the culprit. Is it a flaky switch or a bad solenoid. Only the shadow knows.....

    I have always dreamed of a Newell. In fact yesterday I was looking at a 2006. BUT I can't see why a 2 million dollar coach would use push on fittings which are known to leak. Makes my 2002 Beaver Marquis which holds air in the suspension two months before starting to lean look better all the time.A year ago I looked at a 2005 Newell that the compressor kicked on every 10 minutes. Is this normal for a Newell? Sorry to rant on Newell's BUT???

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dan. Glad you're still look'n at Newells. Obviously, every coach has their weakness and, in this case, these fittings are a definite sore spot. We could all guess as to why they're used by Newell. For one, they ARE widely accepted and will "generally" be good for most applications. In the case of a Newell coach, however, the large collection of these fittings, after time, will seep just enough to cause a lot of compressor cycling. Most coaches don't use air seals for the slides, so there's nothing that needs a constant air pressure. This is where the problem is; the slide seals should be kept under pressure at all times...hence, if you have fittings in that same system that are leaking, you're gonna have short cycle times. And, yes, 10 minutes IS common, but indicates a lot of leaking. I'm up to 45. My friend's 2020 is 6 hours. And a fellow Guru with a 2014 is now at 44 hours! So, with diligence and the proper fittings, a Newell can be as tight as they come....but certainly gonna be hard to match your Beaver at 6 months!

    Very informative !! I wonder if Newell will replace the fittings when the coach is manufactured if they are asked ? Thank you !!!

    • @RVSquaredSteve
      @RVSquaredSteve  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching and the compliment. Newell is currently using DOT compression fittings for the suspension components only. Engineering will continue to use the standard push to connects for the rest of the coach. They feel using those standard of the industry fittings is appropriate and not willing to change. Obviously, it comes down to ease and speed of installation.

    I want you to check for refrigerant gas leaks. Can a very small leak be detected?

      Yes, the Amprobe is designed to detect HVAC leaks.

    • @RVSquaredSteve

      I know it’s easy to blame Newell. But frankly, these push to connect fittings are widely used in the heavy truck industry. Unfortunately, as with so many things, time will tell if they are a long range good bet or not. Keep in mind, our coach is nearly 9 years old.
