It's great to see a young man messing with these old trucks .My farther drove one of those for years in S.E. Mass. LOADED with sand and gravel . He earned every penny . Shifted all day long . Hot Hot in the summer , Dragged a canvas ov er every load. Your truck sounds nice.
I hear ya. Being from Brockton, (late 50s, into the mid 70s,), my father worked for Mack in Boston, till they closed the plant in 66. I remember him working Macks on the week-end for Campenellis, doin brakes and clutches. and my uncle had a B-61 dump, that came to the house sometimes for work. I was amazed by these trucks, and the men that could drive them. Love these B-81s too. Really cool machines. (Especially needed that "AC" on the dash)
Although many years have passed since the production of this truck, its engine is still healthy and working as it was at the time of production. I have rarely seen an old truck that works as well as this one.
I had a 58 b75 I really loved that truck it had a 262 Cummins with a quad box had to sell to pay hospital bills someone got a good truck with that one.
I drove a 1964 b81 during the blizzard of 1996 here in NJ for 3 days I love these b81 Bulldog Mack’s drivers today will definitely have trouble trying to drive these they can keep it in Lo split then just split 5th on the main with no load of course boy do I miss that truck they can keep these new computer controlled def trucks today I’ll drive that ole girl before anything new

Yes, if it weren't for the Soviet Union, we would still be driving with two or three levers of control Indeed, in the Soviet Union, for the first time, a gearbox handle with gear shift flags of increased and reduced gear was patented
is that a meet tag on the glove box? and what club is it or meet? I have a garage wall full of them from the late 70s till the 90s for the north jersey chapter of the ATCA

Very cool ancient machine still going good driving❤
I never drove B81 but I drove a bunch of DMs with quad boxes . Log trucks and dump trucks. 711s and 673s with and without turbos. Good trucks.
Great trucks and great motors - never driven a DM but would love to.
Drive it like you stole it. Nice ride and great video. Drove these for years.
Now, that's a work truck. All day everyday.
Hell yeh by the time ya hit top gear it’s lunch time 😆 and armstrong steering

I don’t exactly remember but something you do to the under the hood to stop the engine heat from coming in to the cab on these b81 trucks

Is the front brake limit switch in or out. Hahaha! Remember those?
Yeah, I even had a few R Model tractors that were built new without front brakes. At the time some people considered front brakes unsafe
Yes, remember seeing them in the trucks my Dad drove in the 60s and 70s
Yes I do 😂
Sx? These were animals and still are.
