- The World’s longest serving Prime Minister appears to be making preparations to hand over power.
Hun Sen has been at the head of the Cambodian government for more than three decades. He recently announced he would step down in 2028.
Hun Sen has backed his eldest son Hun Manet, who is the commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and joint chief of staff, to succeed him, paving the way for a political dynasty.
Politically, there are very few challenges for Hun Manet to overcome.
Since his father banned the main opposition party in 2017, few alternatives have emerged.
Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports from the capital Phnom Penh.

They need to change the constitution no one should be in power that long. It’s like an absolute monarchy without them being of royal descent. He want his family to rule the country so that they remain wealthy for life. I have no issues with Hun sen but I don’t think anyone should rule that long like in the US we have term only two then you’re out. Anything longer would be dictatorship

Actually, he's reduced the king to a powerless figurehead who regularly forced to leave the country every few years in order for Hun Sen to pass new laws outlawing the opposition and free media. He is a fool and a dictator, though it probably hurts your feelings to hear it.
