The creation kit is almost more fun than the game. I suppose that's what happens when you put 500 hours into a game but I still keep forgetting there's a main quest line to finish.
I completed the main quest twice, Dawnguard once, and Dragonborn once. All in the span of four years. The game is so fun besides the main quest, and I just got into making a follower mod. Skyrim fun never changes.
Farengar - oh, I thought you already on your way to retrieve the dragonstone Me - oh, was I supposed to do that? I’m sorry I got distracted. I was on my way to do that when some orc said he was looking for vampire hunters. I’ll get to it eventually.
Desperately need a tut on making a mod house intermediate to advanced level. Building wall by wall, and not just duplicating an existing farmhouse, or piecing together a modest farmhouse. How to use multiple ext cells, etc.
I started my large house mod a month ago after a few weeks of looking around for tuts, finding what I could. I finally ran across a basic tutorial which is here: tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/6840-ck-basics-an-introduction/?hl=%2Bintroduction+%2Bcreation. Its pretty basic, but it gets you started in learning all you need to know to get started. Putting things together, basic lighting, navmeshing, linking interiors, linking interior to exterior, etc. From there you build, ask questions on that site, or at Nexus, collect resources (also at those two sites). Then you find individual tuts on specific things, many on youtube. Between today and yesterday, for instance, I've learned how to put weapons plaques, weapons racks, and armor mannequins together so that they will interact with player to store amor/weapons (no small effort to do it--LOL). I finished the main house (3 stories) and I'm working on basement which will house armory, smith/forge, and alchemy/enchantment workstations. Good luck!
@@decadian Well, I've learned a lot since my original posting 6 yrs ago. This is also massively helpful if you are just starting out modding Skyrim. th-cam.com/users/Darkfox127
I was gifted Skyrim for my bday with all the DLC's and went on a mod spree. I decided I didn't like most of the other modded homes so I went about looking for a way to create my own. This worked splendidly, thank you. It took me a moment to realize I had to load the date from the file menu each time I loaded it up to make changes, but after I hardwired that to my brain, the rest was simple. Thanks.
Well constructed tutorial, and you mention some great points. One thing I've noticed is when duplicating a cell, you can copy references which might cause some mod errors. I wasn't even aware of this until a few weeks back, but copying a cell in the video was easier than making another one for the tut.
This is perfect! Thank you for this tutorial! My friend has been pestering me for months to get a mod that does not exist anywhere so I was thinking I could work with someone to make it but now watching this video I realized I can try to make it for myself. Thanks!
depends what kind you want, for example, windhelm interiors are wood, as are farmhouses, and a few others, my suggestion is to check through the interiors of some vanilla houses that you like the interiors of, then double click a piece of wall/floor and see what it's called, then just type that into the ck when creating your own interior
Sorry wasn't online to see your previous comment till now, yeah some objects have weird click boxes, the easiest way around this is to highlight something that's in the way, then press "1" on your keyboard twice, that will hide that item (not remove, just hidden in the ck) that way you won't accidentally click it, then I believe it's ALT + 1 to un-hide all items
YELLOW BOX ISSUE - you need to copy doors itself, the on doors edit, choose teleport as your duplicated cell, the the box appears by itself. Thank you for tutorial, made my first shack !
Click and drag to move, at the top there is a red square grid symbol next to a green triangle symbol, if either of those are selected it will only move accross the grid/by angles, unselect those and try
Wow, this is very helpful for someone who is horribly new at Creation Kit, like myself. Curiously, is it possible to assign the home to a NPC that the player has to buy it from? Such as when the player buys a house in one of the cities?
I know this is old as hell but for anyone who thinks this sounds like a cool idea, you are gonna have to learn and mess with scripts. Making NPCs behave in such ways requires different sets of skills rather than the 'how to build something' set of skills.
Not really, just have the door locked only accessible via a key and not be picked. Then you could follow a quest tutorial on how to implement a key either to steal, buy or find. I believe a youtuber called BestInSlot has some very good tutorials for quests and creating dungeons and even explains how to retrieve a stolen ring with quest markers and objectives. Replace the ring with a key and you have yourself a quest resulting in owning the house.
I've been able to accomplish this up to the point of where I select the yellow box for the door. I am unable to get the yellow box to come up, I see it in the home I duplicated from. Help ... what am I not doing or doing incorrectly.
I want to make a home in blackreach that is lit by glowing fungi and has loyal insect companions. (With one chair is reaper as a companion/follower). I'm in full falmer heavy set with a shelling helmet. I'm basically an insectoid. (Now, how to add proper antennae to shelling helmet...)
Mr.aderson i found you like ages ago and when i saw who made this video i was filled with joy because my youtube account got hacked and OMG YES I LOVE YOU no homo
If for example you navmesh under a static object (something with no physics, like a chair or table) the npc wil try to walk right through it and get stuck, you can however navmesh under physics objects like non static pots etc/baskets etc.
Great videos. I have watched so many others and you are not fast in comparison. I think what makes yours standout more are your small pauses, they really help. Have you considered a video on making a no load door house?
you can download it from Steam if you own Skyrim, it's kinda hard to find on there, might be linked from the workshop or the Skyrim sale page somewhere
He's correct, you need Navmesh, I will be creating a navmesh tutorial (to hopefully explain it a little more clearly, and in detail than bethesda), but in the meantime if you need help with it I suggest using the official navmesh tutorial by bethesda on youtube
You need navmesh (navigational mesh) it tells npcs where they can and can't walk, I intended to make a navmesh tutorial but have been busy with other things, however there's an official navmesh tutorial by Bethesda on TH-cam, theres also an auto generate navmesh feature they explain that you can use to put some temporary navmesh down until you're ready to hand create it (it takes time) or you can auto generate it and remove/correct the wonky bits that were auto generated, check out their Vid
Thanks, man! This tutorial was great. The only caveat was the 2 second Google search I had to do to learn how to pan in the kit ;P (such a minuscule issue that it doesn't even register as a complaint in my mind haha) again, thanks for the great tutorial!
Not that I'm aware of, did you copy the wall dividers (I forget their technical name but they basically seperate areas of the same cell until you need them to load to improve performance) they should be visible with "M" for markers
if you can't interact with the door then you need to manually place a door there (they are a separate entity, each house has a door attatched but it's fake and can't be interacted with))
You are correct, I will be creating a navmesh tutorial at some point, but in the meantime bethesda's official navmesh tutorial on youtube can teach you the basics
Sam Do you have to go into file and select data then double click all the vanilla esm and hit ok if theres a mod you want to add in then you need to double click on the esp or esm for it
You probably dont still monitor the comments on this, but just in case you do... What if, instead of copying an entire house, I just want to copy a room (Delphines secret room, for example) and attach it to a different house somewhere else? Or add another exit out of that secret room, via a ladder and trap door? Ive been trying to figure out the creation kit, but its so confusing. And I cant find any youtube tutorials that cover these things

so i've duplicated the Falkreth Jarls lodge, taken everything i don't need out and put things like blacksmith, enchanter, arcane, kitchen, bedrooms & storage. i save it and close down next time i open it half the house & furniture are missing??
@yoshi82412 you need to open skyrim.esm to create a mod, when you save it will be saved as a new mod. It can't (won't) overwrite skyrim.esm as its a master file
There's no yellow door box on the duplicate cell-house thing, is it supposed to be like that? I can't get an exterior of the duplicate cell and I'm really, really confused.
I would have loved to of known how I can build my own house? I can't do that at all, it's missing all of the bits I am most familiar with. For example, a riften house kit doesn't make *any* sense to me. Everything is a different height etc

I tried, but doesn't seems to work, when I visit it at the hideout I made, it just lay sadly on the table. thx

First I will say thank you for the tut. I know this is an older thread but maybe you will see this and reply, Built the house and placed it an got it all set-up and then decided I wanted to place a Talos statue out side and put a stone fence and even a smelting center.... was really proud of the work spent hours working on it, and saved it and then went inside the install folder and copied it out and decided to try it on another PC, in game and the housed was there but the statue and other items I had placed outside in the garden, were not there.... So I have tried several times to place that stupid statue and now it has become an obsession for me.... How do I place a statue and have it store in the .esp?
is it possible to remove part of an object?for example i want to remove a wall from down stairs but it will remove front wall and walls from upstairs also part of the roof with it and its very annoying.
I can't get it working and i have no idea why. I have followed your instructions very carefully and still something went very wrong. All i can tell is it has to do with the doors. I'm using the guards barracks in Whiterun.
Hi dude, a couple of questions if I may. First off is it possible to combine parts of other people mods together, for instance there's a house mod I really like, but it's missing a few things that I've found in other house mods, is it possible to add the parts I want from one house into another house? Secondly, is there a way I can mess around with the CK to learn and not affect any of my current skyrim game? I've got all the mods I want installed and running smoothly, but I don't want to start messing around with stuff in the CK if I have to test it with my current save game. Any help appreciated, thanks
Wow I really need to look into this pc stuff! Looks really awesome how you guys can just mod games like crazy! I really wish I could just have no idea where to start
I'm having trouble with making a player owned bed. I select Ownership>Faction>PlayerBedOwnership. It's supposed to give me Well Rested is it not? It just gives me Rested. Any help would be appreciated ^_^ thanks
Thanks for the tutorial! I'm trying to figure out how to make a simple College of Winterhold mod for use with Requiem - The Roleplaying Overhaul and this helped with figuring out the basics.
Cool, is it possible to make a custom locking door and how would I do that? Like if I wanted the player to have to purchase a key to gain access to the house so it's not just a free house?
if you cant find something in guide, try loading cells made by bethesda (like the in game houses). you can find what markers and other logic they added to make it possible
I created my custom containers and they work great, but now whenever I enter my home all the object are scattered like an explosion happened and they all froze in mid air, what did I do wrong?
I'm a but confused. I think i might have a different version of creation kit mabye? But I downloaded it off of Steam. But when i go to the edit box to edit my house thing, an entirely different box comes up and I can't do the stuff you did. Help please.
@MrAndersonLP Hi! Awesome tutorial, I've got everything I need and I've got some practice. Where should I save these files so that everything works as it should?
I've got the house i want in the world, along with the interior done etc, though once the mod is done the house doesn't actually appear there.. I understand the video is old, but it shouldn't matter- its still the same premise. Any advice?
Can someone please I'm begging you help me understand how to use this creation kit! These people make it look so easy but then when you do it it's so complicated omg I can't do it! Ugh
Ok so I can place the little hut but then the door and objects are just horrible for me. A lot of times the objects look on the ground and in place then I move the mouse aaannnddddddd it's in the air. And trees and flowers I have a trouble scaling them to. If I press f they just disappear. I don't know how to move em up or down
DragonBorn24287 Right click on the render window and change your "Movement" settings, I have it on 45 degree's rotation and the box clicked, and I had the movement at 128. And you move things up and down by clicking on it, holding "Z" and moving the arrow up and down. Also, check out the official Bethesda tutorial, because that helped me a lot.
When I was a wee lad, I would spend ages making entire worlds and adventures using the Aurora Toolset from Neverwinter Nights. I don't want to create a mod, but create a whole world/story/adventure with one of these easy to use interfaces. What can I use?
Can you please help me? I want to know if there is a way to create a room under Jorrvaskr over that empty room with a room for clipping back on top of Whiterun as oposed to being stuck underneath in a empty room by default.
But once you’re done how do you upload it and get it to start in game? I’ve modded Honeyside home in Riften and can’t get the new pieces to load even with the mod selected.
This is a good video, but how do I make the bed an owned bed. When I follow this tutorial I can't get the well rested message. It just says rested...Thanks!
This is very helpful. thank you. however, i want to know how to custom creat the house i have in mind. I have a plan to make a player owned home and put it up on steam workshop. i dont want it to be a farm house tho, i want to build it wall by wall and have it a big tower, similar to bandit outposts you find all over. how would i go about this?
How did you even find Alvor's house to select it in the first place? Your talking to a bunch of people who have no idea what they're doing and you're skipping major steps.
+MrAndersonLP My apologies too for sounding so gruff. I was quite frustrated. Your video is really a good tutorial once you know how to load the skyrim.esm file :)
Was good til I got to the part with the yellow box marker to get outside, which mysteriously doesn't exist :( I thought it was because I replaced the original door with a Dwemer one but I undid it & still no marker :( confused
My Question might sound uneducated, but can you custom create any house, like even one of the expensive Jarl house and where even would you be allowed to put it. I would assume you could only put it outside the walls of the city like the "Keeps", but I dont know. Wondering video btw. Thanks
The creation kit is almost more fun than the game. I suppose that's what happens when you put 500 hours into a game but I still keep forgetting there's a main quest line to finish.

same, the player home mods are usually pretty unimmersive.

So you could name a random door bell zap you too your home anywhere?
it's like settlements in fallout 4 done right... i love the absolute shit out of it
Thanks for the tutorial!
Hey i dont know if you can help me but is there anywhere i can look for a guide to make marriage and adoption support for my custom house?
if you cant find something in guide, try loading cells made by bethesda (like the in game houses). you can find what markers and other logic they added to make it possible
Help please.
excellent!! So much info in such a compressed timeframe! Thanks! :D/
Ugh
DragonBorn24287 It takes time but you can get the hang of it. I reccomend starting with the VERY basics, like building a single room.
I tried that. Didn't work. Only thing I know how to do is make npc with custom voices
DragonBorn24287 What part are you fucking up at? To insert objects you just need to click and drag them into the render window.
What can I use?
you can use creation kit
Can you please help me?
I want to know if there is a way to create a room under Jorrvaskr over that empty room with a room for clipping back on top of Whiterun as oposed to being stuck underneath in a empty room by default.
So detailed. Excellent.
+Black Raven I believe I showed the step, and if I didn't then I apologize, this video is nearly 3 years old.
+MrAndersonLP My apologies too for sounding so gruff. I was quite frustrated. Your video is really a good tutorial once you know how to load the skyrim.esm file :)
you didn't show half the steps to even get to the cell lol
When you copied Alvors house in Riverwood.. what if you wanted your copy in another place.? Can you help?
I was really hoping you'd show how to make a key as well. Is it possible to just copy an existing key and edit it's properties (I'm assuming yes)?
DaleDystopiq It is but you have to link the key to the house(which you can do in the lock tab of the door - I think)
What steps did you take to open the pre-defined house?
Why don't I have any cells? It's completely empty. The object window.
Was good til I got to the part with the yellow box marker to get outside, which mysteriously doesn't exist :( I thought it was because I replaced the original door with a Dwemer one but I undid it & still no marker :( confused
awesome tutorial, do you know how to go about making the wooden dragon preist mask teleport you home or a spell
Help.
There is no teleport option coming up when I select the house and I can't figure out why.
I am using the latest version of the creation kit.
My Question might sound uneducated, but can you custom create any house, like even one of the expensive Jarl house and where even would you be allowed to put it. I would assume you could only put it outside the walls of the city like the "Keeps", but I dont know. Wondering video btw. Thanks
You can do pretty much anything in the Creation Kit, you can use any house or custom build your own one piece by piece (kinda a pain to do)
