The creation kit is almost more fun than the game. I suppose that's what happens when you put 500 hours into a game but I still keep forgetting there's a main quest line to finish.
I completed the main quest twice, Dawnguard once, and Dragonborn once. All in the span of four years. The game is so fun besides the main quest, and I just got into making a follower mod. Skyrim fun never changes.
Farengar - oh, I thought you already on your way to retrieve the dragonstone Me - oh, was I supposed to do that? I’m sorry I got distracted. I was on my way to do that when some orc said he was looking for vampire hunters. I’ll get to it eventually.
Desperately need a tut on making a mod house intermediate to advanced level. Building wall by wall, and not just duplicating an existing farmhouse, or piecing together a modest farmhouse. How to use multiple ext cells, etc.
I started my large house mod a month ago after a few weeks of looking around for tuts, finding what I could. I finally ran across a basic tutorial which is here: tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/topic/6840-ck-basics-an-introduction/?hl=%2Bintroduction+%2Bcreation. Its pretty basic, but it gets you started in learning all you need to know to get started. Putting things together, basic lighting, navmeshing, linking interiors, linking interior to exterior, etc. From there you build, ask questions on that site, or at Nexus, collect resources (also at those two sites). Then you find individual tuts on specific things, many on youtube. Between today and yesterday, for instance, I've learned how to put weapons plaques, weapons racks, and armor mannequins together so that they will interact with player to store amor/weapons (no small effort to do it--LOL). I finished the main house (3 stories) and I'm working on basement which will house armory, smith/forge, and alchemy/enchantment workstations. Good luck!
@@connorwalsh5464 Well, I've learned a lot since my original posting 6 yrs ago. This is also massively helpful if you are just starting out modding Skyrim. th-cam.com/users/Darkfox127
I was gifted Skyrim for my bday with all the DLC's and went on a mod spree. I decided I didn't like most of the other modded homes so I went about looking for a way to create my own. This worked splendidly, thank you. It took me a moment to realize I had to load the date from the file menu each time I loaded it up to make changes, but after I hardwired that to my brain, the rest was simple. Thanks.
Well constructed tutorial, and you mention some great points. One thing I've noticed is when duplicating a cell, you can copy references which might cause some mod errors. I wasn't even aware of this until a few weeks back, but copying a cell in the video was easier than making another one for the tut.
YELLOW BOX ISSUE - you need to copy doors itself, the on doors edit, choose teleport as your duplicated cell, the the box appears by itself. Thank you for tutorial, made my first shack !
Thanks so much! I was having a really hard time finding a house mod I really liked, so I'm hoping to follow this and just edit one until it meets my criteria :) Thanks for making it so easy to follow!
This is perfect! Thank you for this tutorial! My friend has been pestering me for months to get a mod that does not exist anywhere so I was thinking I could work with someone to make it but now watching this video I realized I can try to make it for myself. Thanks!
Sorry wasn't online to see your previous comment till now, yeah some objects have weird click boxes, the easiest way around this is to highlight something that's in the way, then press "1" on your keyboard twice, that will hide that item (not remove, just hidden in the ck) that way you won't accidentally click it, then I believe it's ALT + 1 to un-hide all items
Wow, this is very helpful for someone who is horribly new at Creation Kit, like myself. Curiously, is it possible to assign the home to a NPC that the player has to buy it from? Such as when the player buys a house in one of the cities?
I know this is old as hell but for anyone who thinks this sounds like a cool idea, you are gonna have to learn and mess with scripts. Making NPCs behave in such ways requires different sets of skills rather than the 'how to build something' set of skills.
Not really, just have the door locked only accessible via a key and not be picked. Then you could follow a quest tutorial on how to implement a key either to steal, buy or find. I believe a youtuber called BestInSlot has some very good tutorials for quests and creating dungeons and even explains how to retrieve a stolen ring with quest markers and objectives. Replace the ring with a key and you have yourself a quest resulting in owning the house.
depends what kind you want, for example, windhelm interiors are wood, as are farmhouses, and a few others, my suggestion is to check through the interiors of some vanilla houses that you like the interiors of, then double click a piece of wall/floor and see what it's called, then just type that into the ck when creating your own interior
Mr.aderson i found you like ages ago and when i saw who made this video i was filled with joy because my youtube account got hacked and OMG YES I LOVE YOU no homo
Click and drag to move, at the top there is a red square grid symbol next to a green triangle symbol, if either of those are selected it will only move accross the grid/by angles, unselect those and try
He's correct, you need Navmesh, I will be creating a navmesh tutorial (to hopefully explain it a little more clearly, and in detail than bethesda), but in the meantime if you need help with it I suggest using the official navmesh tutorial by bethesda on youtube
Great videos. I have watched so many others and you are not fast in comparison. I think what makes yours standout more are your small pauses, they really help. Have you considered a video on making a no load door house?
If for example you navmesh under a static object (something with no physics, like a chair or table) the npc wil try to walk right through it and get stuck, you can however navmesh under physics objects like non static pots etc/baskets etc.
Thanks for the tutorial! I'm trying to figure out how to make a simple College of Winterhold mod for use with Requiem - The Roleplaying Overhaul and this helped with figuring out the basics.
Wow I really need to look into this pc stuff! Looks really awesome how you guys can just mod games like crazy! I really wish I could just have no idea where to start
I'm wanting to create my own home because it's so hard to find a house that has everything I want! I thought about hiring someone but I think I'd better do it myself lol!
I want to make a home in blackreach that is lit by glowing fungi and has loyal insect companions. (With one chair is reaper as a companion/follower). I'm in full falmer heavy set with a shelling helmet. I'm basically an insectoid. (Now, how to add proper antennae to shelling helmet...)
I've been able to accomplish this up to the point of where I select the yellow box for the door. I am unable to get the yellow box to come up, I see it in the home I duplicated from. Help ... what am I not doing or doing incorrectly.
You are correct, I will be creating a navmesh tutorial at some point, but in the meantime bethesda's official navmesh tutorial on youtube can teach you the basics
Thanks, man! This tutorial was great. The only caveat was the 2 second Google search I had to do to learn how to pan in the kit ;P (such a minuscule issue that it doesn't even register as a complaint in my mind haha) again, thanks for the great tutorial!
You need navmesh (navigational mesh) it tells npcs where they can and can't walk, I intended to make a navmesh tutorial but have been busy with other things, however there's an official navmesh tutorial by Bethesda on TH-cam, theres also an auto generate navmesh feature they explain that you can use to put some temporary navmesh down until you're ready to hand create it (it takes time) or you can auto generate it and remove/correct the wonky bits that were auto generated, check out their Vid
you can download it from Steam if you own Skyrim, it's kinda hard to find on there, might be linked from the workshop or the Skyrim sale page somewhere
I think you do not need the noresetzone, you can turn 'reset' off in every chest. Edit: After thinking a bit, you need it. Because if you drop a book, and the cell resets, it will disappear

+MrAndersonLP My apologies too for sounding so gruff. I was quite frustrated. Your video is really a good tutorial once you know how to load the skyrim.esm file :)
First I will say thank you for the tut. I know this is an older thread but maybe you will see this and reply, Built the house and placed it an got it all set-up and then decided I wanted to place a Talos statue out side and put a stone fence and even a smelting center.... was really proud of the work spent hours working on it, and saved it and then went inside the install folder and copied it out and decided to try it on another PC, in game and the housed was there but the statue and other items I had placed outside in the garden, were not there.... So I have tried several times to place that stupid statue and now it has become an obsession for me.... How do I place a statue and have it store in the .esp?
I thought that the tutorials were done till I realized you have another channel! Thanks you make my mods possible I have a question though!!!! how do I put more complicated mods from the creation kit to the nexus???
I believe it's as simply as selecting the file to upload once you're registered on the nexus like you would do an image or a video to youtube, where on the nexus page you do that, I'm not sure
MrAndersonLP Thanks, I got another one for ya if you would oblige. If i kill a npc in a noresetzone will they disapear? if not do you know how I can do that?
I do not believe NPC corpses disappear, I still have bodies lying around from Dawnguard and Dragonborn (like the cultists) from months ago, so no I'm not sure how to have them audomatically disappear, however you can open the console, click on them and type "disable" and it will disable whatever you've clicked on, as long as it's ID is highlighted.
Can someone please I'm begging you help me understand how to use this creation kit! These people make it look so easy but then when you do it it's so complicated omg I can't do it! Ugh
Ok so I can place the little hut but then the door and objects are just horrible for me. A lot of times the objects look on the ground and in place then I move the mouse aaannnddddddd it's in the air. And trees and flowers I have a trouble scaling them to. If I press f they just disappear. I don't know how to move em up or down
DragonBorn24287 Right click on the render window and change your "Movement" settings, I have it on 45 degree's rotation and the box clicked, and I had the movement at 128. And you move things up and down by clicking on it, holding "Z" and moving the arrow up and down. Also, check out the official Bethesda tutorial, because that helped me a lot.
What if you follow the directions exactly, but when you hit the #1 on your keyboard the house does not reappear? Only the door itself remains, but the building in use is no where to be seen. Does that matter?
Sam Do you have to go into file and select data then double click all the vanilla esm and hit ok if theres a mod you want to add in then you need to double click on the esp or esm for it
The only way to mod on xbox is by using complicated programs/hacks and sometimes external hardware, it CAN be done, but it's extremly difficult and complicated, and I wouldn't personally know how to do it
oh okay, so if you want to make a house only with CK, it's always your house or an npc' house? you can't obtain it from someone i mean? anyway, looking forward to that vid :)
great tutorial here. just from looking at this video i can see that using the creation kit is pretty similar to using the TESCS for modding Morrowind. i have yet to try modding Skyrim but i did make (most of) a housemod for Morrowind that was very ambitious, being so large and detailed that i had to give up on it after doing about 90% of the interiors, because Morrowind's engine couldn't handle all the detail and would have framerate stuttering and lag whenever you walked around the house. i hope to take a shot at creating something similar for Skyrim, and hopefully with less engine constraints. have you modded Morrowind before as well? how much easier if at all do you think getting into modding will Skyrim be, for someone having experience with modding Morrowind?
+Emre Kaya False. Morrowind used the Gamebryo Engine, Skyrim uses the Creation Engine. It literally takes like 3 seconds to google this information. Might wanna do that next time to save face before you make yourself look like an idiot.
Attempting to turn Mzulft into a player home (obviously not the entire dungeon, just portions) *after completing the Mage Guild questline.* This is my first time using the Creation Kit. God help me.
I would have loved to of known how I can build my own house? I can't do that at all, it's missing all of the bits I am most familiar with. For example, a riften house kit doesn't make *any* sense to me. Everything is a different height etc
Cool, is it possible to make a custom locking door and how would I do that? Like if I wanted the player to have to purchase a key to gain access to the house so it's not just a free house?
if you can't interact with the door then you need to manually place a door there (they are a separate entity, each house has a door attatched but it's fake and can't be interacted with))
Not that I'm aware of, did you copy the wall dividers (I forget their technical name but they basically seperate areas of the same cell until you need them to load to improve performance) they should be visible with "M" for markers
The creation kit is almost more fun than the game. I suppose that's what happens when you put 500 hours into a game but I still keep forgetting there's a main quest line to finish.
+Joshua Collins Main quest sucks anyway :P
I have over 1500 hours into the game and I can guarantee you that I will never complete that main quest.
I agree, same amount of time and the furthest i got in main quest was before trapping the dragon. there is so much more to do than the quest :P
I completed the main quest twice, Dawnguard once, and Dragonborn once. All in the span of four years. The game is so fun besides the main quest, and I just got into making a follower mod. Skyrim fun never changes.

Same here :)
same, the player home mods are usually pretty unimmersive.
Same here, i played so much Minecraft before i got used to building my own house for my criteria

great tutorial here. just from looking at this video i can see that using the creation kit is pretty similar to using the TESCS for modding Morrowind. i have yet to try modding Skyrim but i did make (most of) a housemod for Morrowind that was very ambitious, being so large and detailed that i had to give up on it after doing about 90% of the interiors, because Morrowind's engine couldn't handle all the detail and would have framerate stuttering and lag whenever you walked around the house.
i hope to take a shot at creating something similar for Skyrim, and hopefully with less engine constraints. have you modded Morrowind before as well? how much easier if at all do you think getting into modding will Skyrim be, for someone having experience with modding Morrowind?
lol
+Emre Kaya False. Morrowind used the Gamebryo Engine, Skyrim uses the Creation Engine. It literally takes like 3 seconds to google this information. Might wanna do that next time to save face before you make yourself look like an idiot.
really good tutorial! thnx
Attempting to turn Mzulft into a player home (obviously not the entire dungeon, just portions) *after completing the Mage Guild questline.*
This is my first time using the Creation Kit.
God help me.
how'd it go?
Holy shit i didnt know you didnt made these!
I would have loved to of known how I can build my own house? I can't do that at all, it's missing all of the bits I am most familiar with. For example, a riften house kit doesn't make *any* sense to me. Everything is a different height etc
Cool, is it possible to make a custom locking door and how would I do that? Like if I wanted the player to have to purchase a key to gain access to the house so it's not just a free house?
nice this worked fine for me, however, I dont know how to make it a map marker to fast travel to.
Nice video. Thanks.
I was really hoping you'd show how to make a key as well. Is it possible to just copy an existing key and edit it's properties (I'm assuming yes)?
DaleDystopiq It is but you have to link the key to the house(which you can do in the lock tab of the door - I think)
Also, does the entrance and what not to the house HAVE to be a door? what if you want to make a house that is sort of located in a cave?
you can use any entrance you want as long as it has a marker that teleports you inside when either clicked or in a certain area that you walk into
Thank you so much for all of your help!
No problem :)
if you can't interact with the door then you need to manually place a door there (they are a separate entity, each house has a door attatched but it's fake and can't be interacted with))
great video! thanks!
how does one make it so that the items in the house are "theirs" i.e. not stolen if you pick them up?
Not that I'm aware of, did you copy the wall dividers (I forget their technical name but they basically seperate areas of the same cell until you need them to load to improve performance) they should be visible with "M" for markers
Thanks for it. Excelent tutorial ^^
