The detail in these trucks is amazing - great work. I’ve wanted an AEV for years, and after having purchased a number of other vehicles over the last few, it’s time to pull the trigger on this. Congrats on the great work Dave.
So stoked to see Expedition Overland covering the AEV Products. I'd love to see the Expedition Overland Videography talent used while trekking a couple of AEV Rams or Wranglers across the wilds. I just recently purchased a 2017 4wd Tacoma and I've never been so disappointed in a vehicle. I wish I would have just gone for a Ram Diesel instead. I don't know how you guys do what you do with the lack of power, fuel economy, and range that the Tacoma offers. Love that you're videoing and sharing it with us though.
I have a Ram 4x4 with a Cummins and love the power and fuel economy of my big truck. Great video love hearing about the exciting things out there in the overlanding world.
AEV makes really good stuff. I have a prospector XL single cab and is really awesome. Drives better than stock (of course as is a utilitarian truck) but really comfortable and solid
I have been to the Arctic and Prudhoe Bay in winter of 2015 from SFO bay area and back! I called it "Long way Up and Down!" I wish I had someone to talk to before I did the trip. My Tacoma got beat to hell...but then again, it's all metal and infinitely rebuildable.
Beautiful rigs wish I had 1... been building an obs ford for off-road rigging for my tree service in the mountains of western North Carolina thank you AEV for your great creations and ideas if I could ever afford a prospector I'd pay top dollar great post
I'm wanting to get the AEV raised intake and Katla wheels for my powerwagon. He is incorrect on saying it takes a 6-8" lift to fit 37's on a Ram 2500 tho. Several powerwagon guys are running them with just a set of leveling springs and control arms. 40's is where you have to start looking at big lifts or the AEV kit.
Great builds and these trucks are what the Power Wagon ought to have been. Because the way these trucks are set up is more in line with what the old Power Wagons were during the WWII era and up to around 1955 or possibly 1960.
My question is.. Would any of these trucks be able to keep up with the Toyota 4runners, Landcruisesr & Tacomas used by XO on all their Expeditions trips? In all the conditions and terrain we seen to date?
I bet trucks like that would do awesome sale wise and ability wise down in Australia, they usually prefer the full sized trucks. As in here in the US, Mid sized trucks and Jeeps.
Extremely well thought out, and my opinion why Dodge? Solid axles and old school technology that isn't complicated. Very neat and for guys who really get outdoors, with ridiculous truck prices anyway why not get one like this, Right?
Very cool products and great looking trucks. Just went to website and see you currently only offer products for 2500/3500 Ram trucks. Any possibility of products for the 1500 in the future?
I appreciate the effort to avoid unnecessary lift, But is the extra width/fender flare necessary to fit the rest of the kit or could you just run a narrower tire and stock offset rims?
I've been up on the Dempster, plenty of fuel along the way and in Inuvik, not sure why anyone would need more than 74 gallons. Up to Tuk and back is only a couple hundred miles flat ground. Locals drive from Inuvik to Whitehorse and back every day of the year in the average pickup. Of course sometimes the Dempster is closed due to winter conditions for a day or two but that's typical.
Excellent build but just a note. In order to run 37s a six or 8 inch lift is not necessary. A carli pintop 3 inch suspension system allows for 37s on a 2500. That said i am absolutely in the market for one of these.
Honestly I just want to borrow one of the crew cab production diesel models for a few weeks. I wanna see and drive this thing in person before a commitment. I will never see a truck like this in northern Ontario, never.
I wonder if they deleted the DEF system on the white truck? I know he said they didn't mess with the engine but most people who want reliability get rid of the troublesome Tier 4 emissions systems.
You have to be kidding. You would never get it down most forest, coastal or mountain tracks in Australia without being too wide or wrecking the track with oversized tires. Sure it looks good. But totally impractical.
InMused sorry, I can't see it being a problem anywhere away from the coast. the majority of country. I'd much rather be going over the centeral deserts and Arnhemland flood plains in this. but I accept your point regarding the south east of the country.
sprocketdiver .The Ram is impressive, but when the designer said he kept the air filter system medium instead of something big to stay in line with the trucks tidy look, when it has a monster Cummins 6.7 litre diesel turbo, is when he lost me. Not sure if it has portal axels though?
Yes. From their website, search for dealers. There are several RAM dealers and Aftermarket retailers that are authorized to sell AEV parts, and/or, certified AEV vehicles.
6-8 inches for 37s on a 2500 or 3500 ram? not necessary, 37s can fit full tuck on a 2500 or 3500 ram with only 3-4 inches of normal suspension lift, not saying this isn't a good design, just saying that what he said was an exaggeration.
Awesome trucks. Stock modern diesels are not as reliable as deleted though. The EGR can fail, def fluid injectors go bad, and DPF filters clog up and hurt mpg.
What sub models are available? Longhorn, tungsten, tradesman, ect? ram 2500 or does it extend to the 3500 series? Hell, you have a truck infrint of me and just doing a tease, show the damn truck as im an actual buyer thats been looking...If anythin ill just go buy a custom ordered 3500 single rear wheel and do a bds with bilisteins and 35s on a 6in vs a truck like this as its lacking information.
I just bought my Prospector XL fitted to a 2018 Ram 3500 Megacab. They only do SW rear axles. The 3500 and megacab's require some additional hardware for fitment, but it's not vary much. The base package is awesome and comes with the 4.30 gear upgrade (and custom billstien shocks). The price goes up considerably depending on the additional options you can continue to add. My total package came to $30k with several options added including ARB front and rear lockers. You could do the BDS suspension, but I can attest that the AEV suspension is better than factory in handling and performance with 40's.
Good engines for long distance, my 01 dodge 2500 diesel gets better fuel economy then a brand new Tacoma with allot more power and bigger fuel tank lol. Be sick to do a 4bt cummins swap in a Taco for adventuring
Lowered the axle tube? What does that mean? There's no SRW Ram with 74 gallons of fuel from the factory, he must mean after they removed the now useless spare tire and replaced it with Titan. And spacer lifts are the cheapest, least capable solution, sorry AEV. Carli costs a lot more but if you wheel it's worth it. Use remote reservoirs if your traveling off road at any fast pace.
You're right, and we've been saying it on DTX since their suspension "system" came out. It's a ton of money for nothing more than a spacer lift, it just so happens to be under the spring. I went with Thuren on mine, I had Carli before, more than happy with both. I said elsewhere there is a couple things I would change, one would be a 3" Thuren Suspension System.
Patrick Tingley I've also discovered that if you wheel a Cummins equipped Ram hard the front axle might very well ben;, from my first hand experience, not something you can cheaply fix after the fact. Trussing it first thing is key or installing a new, Currie or Dyna track axle for example.
Patrick Tingley good! Also, the 41" tires on his xl with the tray would be the worst! FYI, I've been to Inuvik in the summer and lived in Alaska for almost 5 years, and am best friends with a Yukon Territory DOT officer. A stock Subaru Outback with snow tires would cover the trip to Tuk faster, more safely and with half the fuel! Semi trucks drive up there on a daily basis, but they do chain up frequently. I delivered fuel to the gold miners in Dawson City for a couple summers.
Any AWD vehicle would be better if just doing a normal Tuk trip. Part time 4wd and solid axles isn't needed for a trip like that and isn't really desired unless you are doing a lot of wheeling on the side.
When they went up to the Arctic, I doubt there was many trails to go on, especially narrow Jeep trails lol It all depends on the type of overlanding you want to do.
+McBoner, my '16 Power Wagon does very well on any trail I've tried here in the southwest compared to my well fitted 80 series Lexus LX450. Again, it really depends on what type of trails you want to run. The only advantage a Jeep is going to give you (most of the time) is breakover. I was very impressed with the PW in Moab. As a matter of fact, that trip, our group of six, were all in full sized trucks and were running ATV trails at one point. Some desert pin-striping, but that is why you get white. (it'll buff out! ;-)
absolutely zero need for 37 inch + tires. go with a 33 and save 5 mpg, your steering box, ball joints, tie rods, and hub assembly multiple times over. not to mention maintain more power and save money
They run little trucks too. These have bigger diffs, 11.5" in the rear, and need more ground clearance. And "most" of what the south Africans and Australians run is flat or relatively so. You're comparing apples to oranges. I didn't know you had to be on a different continent to be Off Road.
Virtue of good engineering is its elegance. Very creative solution.
That single cab, 3 pedal, cummins set up is drool worthy.
I had a 1983 w150 prospector as my first truck at 16. I later bought a 85 Ramcharger prospector edition. I loved both of them.
The detail in these trucks is amazing - great work. I’ve wanted an AEV for years, and after having purchased a number of other vehicles over the last few, it’s time to pull the trigger on this. Congrats on the great work Dave.
So cool to see a Montana start up company like AEV doing so well. I've followed you guys since the beginning.
Good series. Keep it up. Different builds, clever mods.
I have a Ram 4x4 with a Cummins and love the power and fuel economy of my big truck. Great video love hearing about the exciting things out there in the overlanding world.
So glad you brought these guys on...I 100% support their products and engineering....and I would own them too........If i could afford too...lol...
You guys are living the dream boy
AEV makes really good stuff. I have a prospector XL single cab and is really awesome. Drives better than stock (of course as is a utilitarian truck) but really comfortable and solid
I have been to the Arctic and Prudhoe Bay in winter of 2015 from SFO bay area and back! I called it "Long way Up and Down!" I wish I had someone to talk to before I did the trip. My Tacoma got beat to hell...but then again, it's all metal and infinitely rebuildable.
And now they got goodies for my Ram 1500 ecodiesel. I'm stoked. They make with product
Wow!!! I see so much that would be awesome in my Power Wagon! Lottery ticket don't fail me now!
Loving that Ram flatbed 😍
Beautiful rigs wish I had 1... been building an obs ford for off-road rigging for my tree service in the mountains of western North Carolina thank you AEV for your great creations and ideas if I could ever afford a prospector I'd pay top dollar great post
That suspension part is creative.
Those are WICKED AWESOME!!! Definite lottery purchase
Best looking trucks!!
Those trucks are sick!!!
I hope they feel better soon.
Thank you for developing this. 🤗😬😳
thanks for showing me stuff that i know i will never have
I'm wanting to get the AEV raised intake and Katla wheels for my powerwagon. He is incorrect on saying it takes a 6-8" lift to fit 37's on a Ram 2500 tho. Several powerwagon guys are running them with just a set of leveling springs and control arms. 40's is where you have to start looking at big lifts or the AEV kit.
Brandon Kaufman the power wagon already has a 2 inch lift and suspension work done to it tho when you buy so that’s not true.
WOW!
THAT'S THE BADDEST RAM I'VE EVER SEEN..
WISH YOU GUYS DO SOMETHING WITH THE RAPTOR!
Great builds and these trucks are what the Power Wagon ought to have been. Because the way these trucks are set up is more in line with what the old Power Wagons were during the WWII era and up to around 1955 or possibly 1960.
Yes!
I've always thought they were missing out on a large portion of the industry by not offering similar items for the Ford F-250/350.
I love to get one someday minus today. That single cab tho WOW
I just finished the PanAm series on Prime. First season was the most challenging in my opinion. Great overall.
Patriot campers are already on it
Would love to see a production bed rack for a short box ram.
That "Key Component " item @1:17.... wil it fit on a 2nd gen 2500? 🤔
I'd love to set up my ol'12v like this.
vids are always dark, but sweet trucks
speterbilt yeah the effect they are going for actually takes away from the content
You guys did a TON of front end shots, but no rear, even outside you shot the fronts again!
Extremely well thought out, and my opinion why Dodge? Solid axles and old school technology that isn't complicated. Very neat and for guys who really get outdoors, with ridiculous truck prices anyway why not get one like this, Right?
Damn, sweet rigs. That guy got skill
the white one.... diesel and a ute tray.... awesome...
I've been looking at Dave's AEV prospector. Where does the bed of the truck come from ? I'd like very much to know more about the bed ?
What Model of truck is the White with the flatbed?
I believe its the flatbed version of the AEV Prospector - you can check out www.aev-conversions.com/ as well!
Very cool products and great looking trucks. Just went to website and see you currently only offer products for 2500/3500 Ram trucks. Any possibility of products for the 1500 in the future?
89 Fox,
AEV does has a package for the RAM 1500 called the Recruit. You can check it out here. www.aev-conversions.com/vehicles/recruit
ExpeditionOverland thanks so much for the response.
Wait, so I have to run "6-8 inches of lift to fit 37" tires" on my Ram? So, how did I just install 37's on mine with a 3" Thuren kit?
Same here Trever, I've had a Thuren 3" long arm system since they came out, and 37's the whole time.
Trever Bennett You're one of a kind
Sales magic.. ha ha
I appreciate the effort to avoid unnecessary lift, But is the extra width/fender flare necessary to fit the rest of the kit or could you just run a narrower tire and stock offset rims?
Actually they took a very simple thing and made it more difficult.
The wide flares are to keep it street legal in all states. The 40's stick out and kick up a lot of debris, the flares help deflect.
Would love to see AEV do some things for Toyota Tundras
awesome work! great ideas to put into my F-350
Where'd you guys get the rocker switch panel? I've been looking for something like that for my 4th gen.
Wish I could afford that package for my 2016 RAM. Nice!!
Excellent build but just a note. In order to run 37s a six or 8 inch lift is not necessary. A carli pintop 3 inch suspension system allows for 37s on a 2500. That said i am absolutely in the market for one of these.
looking forward for episode of new expedition
I am looking at a AEV Prospector XL 6.4 Hemi. How does one of these do towing?
Honestly I just want to borrow one of the crew cab production diesel models for a few weeks. I wanna see and drive this thing in person before a commitment. I will never see a truck like this in northern Ontario, never.
I wonder if they deleted the DEF system on the white truck? I know he said they didn't mess with the engine but most people who want reliability get rid of the troublesome Tier 4 emissions systems.
What is the overall height of this truck form the ground to the top of the snorkel ??
I thought his personal BeaST was awesome... You guys keep up the great work.
As MCM channel would say "Madddddd"!
this is the trucks you should be using on your trips...
What’s the height or these 2 trucks?. Will it fit in my garage?
Are the snorkels actually functional?
Duke Reaper22 to remove dirt and dust intake, yes.
hands down the mist desirable vehicle here in Australia
You have to be kidding. You would never get it down most forest, coastal or mountain tracks in Australia without being too wide or wrecking the track with oversized tires. Sure it looks good. But totally impractical.
InMused sorry, I can't see it being a problem anywhere away from the coast. the majority of country. I'd much rather be going over the centeral deserts and Arnhemland flood plains in this. but I accept your point regarding the south east of the country.
sprocketdiver no portal axels or Donaldson snorkel on the Ram?
zbudda I'm Not sure what your saying/asking me?
sprocketdiver .The Ram is impressive, but when the designer said he kept the air filter system medium instead of something big to stay in line with the trucks tidy look, when it has a monster Cummins 6.7 litre diesel turbo, is when he lost me. Not sure if it has portal axels though?
ok.. now how much are they? I was only able to find the package prices online
Around 100k$ at a dealer
wish they would sell this trucks in australia for a reasonable price. $150,000+ for one here is just insane
psy06 That's not their fault, that's the greedy Australian government putting their hands out grabbing everything.
what kind of flatbed is on the white truck?
Ute Ltd
You should use one of those on your next Expedition.
Unless the expedition is in a wide open space like a desert, that is impossible.
Maybe i didn't hear it but what about re gearing?
does anyone know where you can get a tray bed like that, but for the shorter ram 6'4" crew cab?
This was a 10 made limited edition from AEV. Check out Nuthouse Industries "Expedition Flatbed".
Can that hood be purchased separately?
Yes. From their website, search for dealers. There are several RAM dealers and Aftermarket retailers that are authorized to sell AEV parts, and/or, certified AEV vehicles.
kind of want to see what these AEV guys could do with my Jeep J10 or a Jeep Grand Wagoneer!!!
can they do this with the 5500 ram
Vids are dark, you should have shown the interior and what was in the bed of the Prospector. Still great video.
Drool awesome rigs. Visual effect on the vid takes away from the content though, need to lose the dark cnrs and brighten things up a bit
I’m running 37’s with a 2” lift
Turn the lights on lol so dark.
Land cruiser FTW....ill take the sled tho!
6-8 inches for 37s on a 2500 or 3500 ram? not necessary, 37s can fit full tuck on a 2500 or 3500 ram with only 3-4 inches of normal suspension lift, not saying this isn't a good design, just saying that what he said was an exaggeration.
Craig Haynes I'm running 37's with 2" level, but of course with aev wheels which is the perfect offset for minimal lift!!
When you edit out the "Emissions and tuning commentary" ;)
better than stock!!
Awesome trucks. Stock modern diesels are not as reliable as deleted though. The EGR can fail, def fluid injectors go bad, and DPF filters clog up and hurt mpg.
wow
I'm old school...I want a standard cab shortbed 2500 Powerwagon Hemi or Cummins. I can't wheel a four door Pig.

Ask him to do a custom stuck for tocoma
If AEV would make parts for the Superduty they'd triple their sales.
Tex Lee They do rams, not Fords. Plenty of other companies out there that do Fords. I don't think they want to taint there image with blue ovals 🤣
yeah yeah how bout we see them in action?
👍
I think your video is too dark can you improving your lighting? Thank you
Good engines for long distance, my 01 dodge 2500 diesel gets better fuel economy then a brand new Tacoma with allot more power and bigger fuel tank lol. Be sick to do a 4bt cummins swap in a Taco for adventuring
Kurt M
Yeah you're 01 is a 5.9 24 valve. The poor 6.7 could be a nice engine if it wasn't tainted with emissions equipment
you can run 37s on a level kit....
"Nothing modified because we don't want to mess with reliability".... I honestly have no clue if that means deleted or not deleted.. Haha
ok thatll make me a dodge fan
Awesome video series, I just wished you would use one truck at the time. The video is just to short for two vehicles.
Those things aren't as reliable as toyotas, but holy hell those are big trucks
I wonder how he got thru the BP guard shack.
The general public can’t roam freely on the field unless they are a Nuiqsut resident.
I call bullshit.
Another stare fest! Drive these things, stats and looking pretty, I get it at the mall! This is an advertisement, please post a review.
Stock trucks ride like rubbish, especially off road. Put a Carli suspension kit on with AEV bumpers and you’re good to go.
Make a Tundra like this then I'll talk
less talking more showing of the trucks !!
You don't understand the concept of an interview do you?
They're "show" trucks, not "go" trucks!
Did you not hear the guy talk about driving all over the Arctic?
Lighting is awful and distracting
JeepCherokeeful which is why mine is trussed
Part time 4wd and solid axles isn't needed for a trip like that and isn't really desired unless you are doing a lot of wheeling on the side.
too big on the trails
Really depends on what trails you are talking about
Duck Cluck Goose
most of them. best get a jeep.
When they went up to the Arctic, I doubt there was many trails to go on, especially narrow Jeep trails lol It all depends on the type of overlanding you want to do.
People prefer not to get stranded in the middle of nowhere.
+McBoner, my '16 Power Wagon does very well on any trail I've tried here in the southwest compared to my well fitted 80 series Lexus LX450. Again, it really depends on what type of trails you want to run. The only advantage a Jeep is going to give you (most of the time) is breakover. I was very impressed with the PW in Moab. absolutely zero need for 37 inch + tires. go with a 33 and save 5 mpg, your steering box, ball joints, tie rods, and hub assembly multiple times over. not to mention maintain more power and save money
Mr.TooTall 939 These trucks come with 33s factory and they are definitely not big enough for serious off road driving on these massive trucks
You have no idea what you are talking about.... I run 37's and they aren't tall enough, my diffs still hit way too many rocks.
They run little trucks too. These have bigger diffs, 11.5" in the rear, and need more ground clearance. And "most" of what the south Africans and Australians run is flat or relatively so. You're comparing apples to oranges. I didn't know you had to be on a different continent to be Off Road.
Patrick Tingley look up a toyota land cruiser. Not a small truck. That will also outroad and outrun either of these pieces of shit on here
