    How many plates can you develop in that amount of developer? How often you need to change that liquid?

  • @kpkndusa

    I have seen where some people dump the developer on the plate or just throw it all over and half of it goes off the plate, some how they still get even development. I apply it the way you do.

      It's a little puzzling to me, because I feel like if I make even the smallest mistake trying to get an even pour I end up with development artifacts. I suspect it has a lot to do with the strength of the developer

    Timely video as I am looking at doing some wetplate over the Easter weekend and my pour technique is bad.
    BTW, with the fix step, is there any risk in leaving those collodian ridges un-cleared? Also, what Fix are you using?
    Cheers

    Amazing series! Can you re-use the developer/pour it back into your main developer bottle for future use?

    • @tehbieber
      @tehbieber  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Developer is a one time thing. Although I have heard that some people will add a small amount of used developer back to their fresh stock for more contrast, it's not something I've tried myself

      @@tehbieber Awesome thanks! And what about fixer? Is that reusable? If so, how much can it be reused?

    • @tehbieber
      @tehbieber  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigpuffyfluff you can keep reusing your fixer until it gets exhausted and stops clearing plates. I usually just mix a new batch for every session because it's not that expensive, although now that I'm starting to make some 5x12 plates I'm beginning to reconsider that

      @@tehbieber Cool, thanks! I just bought all the gear and am starting next week. I'm excited to get started, and this series definitely helped!

    I may have missed it somewhere, but what is the proper way to dispose the chemicals? I'm assuming down the sink is a no-no.

    Hi @Robert Bieber! I have the same Paterson washer, my question is: When we are shooting outdoors far away from home (no running water) how can we efficiently wash plates? Is it enough bring with us 1 or 2 big bottles of water(5 litres each)? Thanks in advance Robert.

    Robert, can you tell me if any "red" tinted light works for a darkroom? Or does it have to be specific lights made for dark rooms?

    • @tehbieber
      @tehbieber  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've generally had good experiences with red LED lights, where the LED itself is red rather than a white LED with a red filter in front of it. It doesn't have to be darkroom specific, just make sure you're getting something that's only putting light out in the red part of the spectrum

      Nope, no risk at all, it's totally normal to end up with a little collodion on the edges like that. I use ammonium thiosulfate to fix, usually from photographer's formulary

      @@tehbieber ok, great. Thanks for the reply. The fix is quicker than mine (rapid fix), so I thought you may have been using KCN

      @@ashleyhoff7561 KCN is extremely dangerous and really not worth the risk. One mistake and you're done.
