City girl turned country here. My country boy husband gave me a very nice dehydrator for my birthday one year and even though I was learning to can and preserve at that time, I wasn’t happy. NOW, I can’t imagine living without it! That thing is practically running around the clock when things start ripening. Don’t be me ladies, sometimes a gift is more than a gift. Great video!
Thank you for making this video. So many times I watch cooking channels and they ramble on and on and on. Thank you for not doing that. You just got yourself a new sub.
My name is Manny,,thank you for good idea,,1st time to make dried chilli because I have many to harvest I like the old way of preserving foods, and spices🙏
Funny enough I have some chillies in the dehydrater now drying away, first time I did them they were going for 8 hours, and at the end of the 8 hours they were beautiful crispy and Kept their lovely red color, I'm doing some paprika peppers ,,some unsmoked,, some smoked,, I don't have a smoker but I'll find a way around it!!!,, I've always wanted a dehydrater,,,,so my son got one on Amazon,,, so I use his one!!!! I'm doing a curry today so I'll be using a little of my pre dried ones they have such a lovely flavour,,🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️👍
I'm growing hot peppers for the first time (Cayenne and Thai Dragon Chili). I was thinking of combining these peppers and making one pepper product, either grind to powder or coarsely crushed in a baggie. What do you think? Or, should I keep these pepper types separate? Thanks for making this easy-to-follow video! 😊😊
Keep them separate then try them in different spice mixes until you find ones you like for chicken, fish, beef, pork, etc. you might try to make a Caribbean spice, or an Asian spice. It will be fun to play with them!
Lol great vid. Your fingers must have been on fire with those ghost peppers. Can totally relate to the coughing. Practically choked myself pickling habanero salsa. Thanks much.
I put habaneros and other chilies in the dehydrator, in a couple days the chilies are quite dry, but the habaneros hardly even look wrinkled. I was hoping to dry them without cutting. Have you experienced this?
I have some chili peppers that are uber hot green and take forever to turn red. They taste amazing green! If I wait for them to tuen red before picking, often insects have taken bites. So the actual question is, can I dehydrate them in the green state of growth.
My 13 yr old and I planted a garden as one of our quarantine projects. Lots of peppers on the plants now. 🌶 We were searching for a video on how to dry and store them. Gonna harvest them today! Thanks again.😊🌶
It does put heat into the house, and some smell in the beginning. I don’t know the wattage but it should be in the specs through the link in the description.
unless you have a proper to funnel all that air from the oven directly outdoors, i would not recommend doing it in an oven. or, here's a good idea i just came up with.. ask that neighbor you dont like very much if you could use their oven for a while since yours "somehow does not work properly atm".. and dont forget your reapers, scorpions and ghosts.
I wasn't very clear. It doesn't have knives like a blender. They aren't sharp, they are more like paddles hitting on edge without sharp blade edges. :) It wasn't you, it was me not being clear enough.
"so youtube says that this is perfect for your viewing habits" *points to "offset smoker and a boston butt"* weeeell.. i dont eat meat, so i guess youtube may be a teeny tiny bit off on this recommendation.. great video however since it was just what i was looking for after eye-balling my coffee grinder and figured i better look up what people use to create them flakes.. this being during the corona situation, most sane people should have some face masks lying around to help with that chili powder which you easily breathe in simply by simply breaking them apart by hand. thanks for the informational video.
Shows you how well youtube knows you. Definitely it picks the best video setting. Somebody else is watching videos on your account! 🤣🤣🤣. You’d think it would show you my zucchini lasagna.
@@TeachaMantoFish ill go with some crazy conspiracy theory about how government are doing all within their powers to get more people to eat meat.. time for me to dust off the ol' tinfoil hat again. *sigh of relief*.

I love my dehydrator from making jerky to drying peppers its always getting used
Thanks for keeping your video short and easy to understand. I am going to dehydrate some mushrooms and peppers right now.
shan4short I’ve never done mushrooms. Let us know how they turn out.
good idea on mushrooms

That is great! You will not be disappointed and coming from your own garden the satisfaction is that much more.
Thanks for sharing, had a ton of peppers this year for the first time and did not want to waste any. This method will work perfectly. 👍
Did you do it yet?
The process worked great, thanks.
Great!

Very nice simple video, quick to the point and informative 🙏
I'm growing hot peppers for the first time (Cayenne and Thai Dragon Chili).
I was thinking of combining these peppers and making one pepper product, either grind to powder or coarsely crushed in a baggie. What do you think? Or, should I keep these pepper types separate?
Thanks for making this easy-to-follow video! 😊😊
Hello, I have the same combination...did this work out good for u?
I would keep them separate until I wanted to mix the flavors. They are so great on their own.
Keep them separate then try them in different spice mixes until you find ones you like for chicken, fish, beef, pork, etc. you might try to make a Caribbean spice, or an Asian spice. It will be fun to play with them!
One of my favorite mixes is cayenne, paprika, and red jalapeno. Although, I keep them separate until I am ready to mix them.
Are the seeds still viable in case you want to plant some the next spring?
No, because they've essentially been cooked.

Lol great vid. Your fingers must have been on fire with those ghost peppers. Can totally relate to the coughing. Practically choked myself pickling habanero salsa. Thanks much.
Glad you enjoyed it.
I have to wear an N95 mask. I live alone & did the same thing. Almost had to run out in the street for help! Well worth it though.
Quick question... I froze my peppers when picked and want to dehydrated will that work? Should I bring to room temperature then start the process?
They will likely just turn to mush when they thaw out, I would use them in a sauce instead.
I put habaneros and other chilies in the dehydrator, in a couple days the chilies are quite dry, but the habaneros hardly even look wrinkled. I was hoping to dry them without cutting. Have you experienced this?
Yes, let it keep going. It’ll get there no cutting required.
I poke a hole in them with the scissor, skewer or knife tip. They dry faster.
Great info. Thank you.
I have some chili peppers that are uber hot green and take forever to turn red. They taste amazing green! If I wait for them to tuen red before picking, often insects have taken bites.
So the actual question is, can I dehydrate them in the green state of growth.
Absolutely!
What temp do you set it out? Thanks
It doesn’t have a setting, just on or off.
Nice I am going to do this right now :)
Great! Come in back and let us know how it turns out.
Do I need to dehydrate outside? Does it smell spicy in the house?
Holly Miller great question. Yes, it does smell
like peppers as it runs. I do it in the garage.
i have ghost peppers do i need to cut them up first since they are thicker
Hi its Leslie from Long Beach Ca can I use different types at one time to hydrated 😊
Since the seeds got dry are they reusable for growing?
They could be, but may be a bit of a crap shoot on germination since they are reeeeally dry
This was perfect! 🌶
My 13 yr old and I planted a garden as one of our quarantine projects. Lots of peppers on the plants now. 🌶 We were searching for a video on how to dry and store them. Gonna harvest them today! Thanks again.😊🌶
CAJUN GIRL JJ how did they turn out?
What temperature do you dehydrate them at?
Mine doesn’t have a setting, not sure. I bet it is around 160 - 170 though.
Love this thank you 😊
Glad you got something from it! One of our favorite things to make, they last forever.
Yes!!! last year was my first time ever growing anything ... The peppers are my favorite ... I can't wait to use these all year
So you dry them and grind them with the seeds.
Yes, the heat resides some in the seeds.
Do you happen to sell any of those nice looking ghost peppers? I know this video is a couple years old
I’m not growing any this year, focused on other peppers. Maybe next year. Do you want dried or fresh?
Will this make the capsaicin go into the air?
No, it is an oil.

What is the wattage on the dehydrator?

What temp did you put the dehydrator at?
Emily LaBarbera mine can’t be adjusted, it just turns on and off.

Fermenting is on my list to do someday.
does it give off fumes while dehydrating?
Yes, you can smell it in the beginning
@@TeachaMantoFish is it bad? like will it be hard to breathe? sneezing and bother others in the house?
@@SecretAZNman45 no, not that bad. Just that you can smell it.
What temp????
@@hotuish no temp control, it just runs itself.
Awesome

Not necessary put them in the oven at 175 for 5 hrs and they’re done
