Good video man. I lived in Prescott from 1968 to 1979. My uncle and I had two clames around Cleator near Turkey creek. Beautiful country. Thank you for sharing. Peace ✌
Looks like a nice area! I know how that humidity is, it'll get ya! Great color, great video! It definitely is cool to see gold in your pan, no matter what size.
I am browsing for unanswered comments and saw yours. Sorry to have missed it. That was a humid couple of days and fun as always. It amazes me how much gold is in that area. A backhoe would reveal just how much. lol. Some very cool videos are coming. Thanks for the comment.
I have a creek that has hardpack like that but the cobbles are really rounded.. it was a part of the old river bottom. I bucket water onto the bottom layer like where you were digging. So much easier to work when wet...great video still...A little Hint the middle of the creek has most of the leftover gold. I hit areas that are hit hard by modern miners weekly but they just work the banks. But I get to bedrock and find pickers n quarts specimens in the old clay layer....that is a really nice peice. Prescotts more mountainous looks prime. Area with good weather.
There's a lot of prospectors working that creek because it is sooooo convenient; some for a couple hours every day during the season. You got some nice pickers there but you are working very hard for it. There are tonnes of very fine gold in Rose Creek, EVERYWHERE as it erodes from the decomposing granite mountains up stream. The secret is to move a lot of material. The best way to get it is with a gold cube and trommel: then clean it up with a blue bowl. Everyone is looking for nuggets and those two creeks have been picked over pretty good over the past 20 years. Just saying. You can get lucky or you can work smarter.
I know the area well. It was amazing perhaps 12 to 15 years ago. Agree about volume and have a greater plan looking ahead in other areas I do not film. I do however consider this a recreation zone where you can just relax and enjoy the outside space.
Red is a sign of iron , gold is normally found around or mixed with iron ...so if u see red staining or iron ....gold will or should be found...if it still remains
I just moved to Arizona. It looks like you're having a good time out there man. Congratulations on finding gold. The spot that you're at do you need a permit or do you belong to a club that owns that property? Like I say I'm new here and I don't want to break any laws. One more thing. I live in Maricopa. If you have any suggestions on places I may go to find some decent gold please share if you don't mind. I'm kind of overwhelmed with all of the information I'm running into. I'm from Alaska and life here is considerably different. Keep up the good work and please share any information you can. Thank you.
I am sorry that I missed your reply to this video. Usually no permits are required. It should not be required regardless as seeking minerals and adventuring on public land is a natural right. I go everywhere. I have 2 claims on Lynx Creek which still has some amazing Gold. Perhaps you would like to come out sometime. Being from Alaska you would bring knowledge that might give a new view on the area which can be positive. Best to you.
I missed ya Thursday. I scored pretty good after a coupe hours up there. Maybe some day I'll get a chance to meet ya. Sorry to hear about your sluice. I run a Keene a51a up there. Picked it up for $95 over at A&B. I love it. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Next time I am in the Prescott area digging I will let you know. I have a large Angus McKirk sluice that got some good work in Colorado this past week. I am going to pick up a smaller one as I think they are superior sluices. Thanks for watching and best of luck to you.
darkh2o That would be awesome. I'm usually up there during the week when most folks are working & my kids are in school. You can see some of my finds on my Instagram page under @knighttrainart Last week I was finding good color, even a small picker (pic on I.G.) up stream from your spot. Was only able to work for a couple hours but damn the color was wonderful & I didn't want to leave. If ya get on I.G. hit me up. & best of luck to you as well.
Thanks. I just got back from a week in Colorado. Good gold, video soon. Good job I have an interest in S.W. CO. I am heading back Sept, 29 thru Oct8. I would like to hear about your CO. trip.
I just returned from a great week in Colorado. Did a good deal of sluicing with solid results. I have some old articles from the area you reference with good information. It is on my list. Good luck and a heavy pan to you.
It was good fun as always. However it just happened to rain most of the time. I actually got more gold I had two snuffers and forgot the other in my pack. Just got back from Colorado. Excellent gold, travels, and a great time. Video coming soon. Back to CO end of Sept. for a week of prospecting.
As far as pointers go just be persistent and try to find bedrock. It is worth digging 3 and 4 feet if it appears that the stream gravels appear to have not been disturbed. compacted and cemented gravels are a good sign. Best of luck.
Glad you like the video. It was an interesting day. It is a bit funny that it has a good many views and yet is one of my least favorite videos. Best wishes.
Oh man your sliuce..I lost a 1" pump in big bug creek,it slid down a tailings pile and was gone. There has to be a hidden place just north of Phoenix that's full of sluice boxes pumps highbankers ect..🙄
Sorry to hear of your equipment. I replaced my unit in short order with a 37 inch mini tom by Angus McKirk. It was excellent upon first use in Colorado. Great unit. Best of luck.
@@darkh2o716 thanks, I am also looking at an Angus mackirk all the la traps seem to be out of stock and Angus mackirk is a good buy at a good price. I've been going down to that Rose Creek spot a little more often I think the drop riffle sluice are a little more forgiving with not classifying or classifying larger. Good luck out there.
It sure did although I was actually expecting much more. I am fairly certain I have seen some of your videos. I will keep watch for them. Wishing you a Golden 2019.
i dont believe you didnt find anything under that boulder and you turned off the camera. you are a typical prospector. i know I've panned around potato patch years ago. tell me more tell me more ya uh huh!
Sorry you feel that way. I wish I had found something under half the large rocks and boulders I have moved. Once in a while I do not show gold and try not to reveal a spot. The reason is that I had this great spot were I could always sluice a gram or two in a few hours. My son liked to go and we would have a great time. We could be seen from the road but it was left alone. Then one day someone came in and dug it all out leaving nothing. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment. The old sluice was replaced with an Angus McKirk Mini Long Tom which I had planned on buying the previous week. It is an excellent change.
That rock is actually granite that appears to carry a bit of oxidized copper. I do know of a few areas where some amazing copper can be found. Copper can show in many different rock matrixes. I do collect high quality copper specimens. This copper is low grade but does show here and there in this area. Best wishes and thanks for your comment.
Aaron117, I actually liked the comment because it gave me a laugh. I found it to be witty. Regardless I like all comments good or otherwise and appreciate all input. Thanks
Not to tell you how to do anything but a Generator and a hammer drill would make much quicker and less painful work of getting to that gold. I mean if you prefer to do twice as much work as necessary then by all means stick with the pry bar, but I was always told work smarter not harder. Just trying to share the wisdom.
I enjoy old school work. For me this is recreational fun. Simple tools and just being outdoors. I am looking at some equipment for greater production however.
After watching this video again I agree and am going to figure out why this unit does that under certain conditions. I will correct it or perhaps purchase a new camera. Thanks

I just went out scouting a bit and have two spots that look good that I did not film. One is in the desert and is a bit of a hike over steep ground.
