I love Nissim Black! I turned away from Judaism and he’s helping me back bc he speaks the truth. It is so refreshing to hear his viewpoint because he brings in things to the discussion that we may not know how to wrap our heads around but he brings it from a completely Jewish point of view. We very much need him
Such an amazing person! The convert is so dear to Ha’Shem and a treasure to Am Yisrael. Thank you for sharing Nissim and thank you for the interview Jonathan!
I grew up a lot like Nissim. But my tendencies were more self destructive and implosive than outward. I was a loner. Got myself into habits and behaviors that could have ruined me as a man. I failed as a Christian, or it failed me. Tried Wicca. Thought I was a Pagan for awhile. Atheism was dumb to me but I played with those ideas. Got into Dharma for awhile too. One day I found out about my very distant Jewish heritage and wanted to learn about it. So I went to the source and bought a Hebrew-English Tenakh. 5 years later and now I would consider myself Orthodox-Lite. Things to work on, but I am very grateful for my Jewish life. Struggles and all. I had no idea what I was getting into back then, with respect to all my brothers and sisters here. I didn't think that I would be studying the Misneh Torah and doing disputations with Neo-Fascists. I didn't think Ye was going to do what he did and then Hamas were going to do what they did, and then the UN and universities what they all did. That the political extremes were going to snap on both ends and all go mask off. My whole worldview changed over these years. I cant simply go back to being the person I was. That's not reality. My ancestors, me. My children someday are all Jews. And the people who hate us, hate us. Even when we don't know we are damn Jewish. It doesn't have to be rational. It is purely irrational. I have been misinformed about Judaism, and been antagonized for my "Jewishness" since I was a kid. You don't have to become Jewish but I would recommend to anybody to read Tenakh from our lens. Learn the law. Learn about our distinct cultural web and our Oral Tradition. And if you are so inclined, put it into practice it for yourself. Experience the Jewish perspective and immerse yourself in it BEFORE you judge us or tell us our place in the world. Before you try to tell us who we are or where we come from.
amein I don't have to I GET too amein that's exactly how I feel. I'm converting right now and I love Nissim he is one of my favs preparing for Shabbat.
I'm watching this as a non-Jew and I'm genuinely curious what goes on in your head when you hear Nissim talk about "us" when talking about the historic persecution of Jews in Europe or elsewhere. I get that he converted to Judaism and is, in a way, now a Jew. But how can he include himself in the history of Jews? What do you think of that?
When someone coverts we believe they take on a new soul and are completely welcome and are yes in fact of our history. We believe that his soul received the Torah at Mount Sinai. We give him a spiritual hug and fully embrace the convert in every way possible. It’s spiritual in nature I guess
You don’t really seem Ike you like him. Just letting you know that’s how you are coming across while he is talking. I think that you are trying to use him.
