As someone who hasn't been in the Smash community in general for all that long, I really appreciate the explanation behind why some of those moments were actually that controversial.

Exactly, thank you Zero. Because ones like dude screaming at the icies to stop the chain grab was easy to understand, but the one with Hungrybox being upset with a best of 3 instead of the usual best of 5 made sense to me after he explained it and Evo's ruleset.

This whole ZeRo Drama is giving me depression. Yes, I know that people need to know these things, but the truth sometimes takes time and is hard to process. I dunno, this whole drama made me mad and sad. Some people online say "I am sugarcoating", but it's hard for me to process this. I looked up to ZeRo and thought he was clean. Only for the secret to come out to the light, and hurt me. :(

I'm shocked that one clip where the guy disconnected his controller by mistake isn't here. His opponent paused so he could plug his controller back in and he tried to charge him a stock for it.

(4:20) HungryBox stated that he asked the referee if it was pools, and the referee said it was pools, implying coaching was allowed. HungryBox followed the referee, so it was the referee who was in the wrong.

I genuinely hope Zero is doing better. I missed the whole scandal thing when it happened, and hearing about it broke my heart. But I am a firm believer that people can change for the better and I hope this is the case here. I heard about his hospitalization recently and it just makes me so sad. Hope you can come back healthier both mentally and physically.

I don't even follow competitive Smash but I was fully aware of the Smash 4 Evo finals controversy after it happened. Watching it was painful with the added context that this was the games final year. It went out not with a bang, but with boo's and a bitter taste. It was a disrespectful farce that shouldn't have been tolerated 1 little bit. Whether it's Smash or any other fighter, people agonize over being good enough to make it at Evo. Smashed controllers, tears, months if not years of training goes into it. Then you have these two, the final competitors who have made it to the end, stomping all over it. I feel bad for all the competitors who tried so hard and didn't make it, only to be subjected to watching this joke of a finals. On a brighter note, thankyou Zero for making these videos. You're essentially my only peephole into the competitive Smash community anymore. Keep it up!
The issue was that the crowd has the right to show their displeasure by booing or leaving. They are showing their investment. People can boo because they can. You can't blame the crowd for what the bayo players have done. Even if they had to go through trials and tribulations, it doesn't stop people from showing their displeasure.
Tom Brady went from being the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL draft from being the best Quarterback in the NFL. Brady had to fight for the backup position despite the fact that no one had faith in him. When the previous quarterback suffered a season ending injury, Brady has to take over. As soon as he took over, everyone thought that the patriots franchise was doomed. Brady had to lead his team to their first superbowl win in his first year as a starter. He pretty much saved a franchise. Even though brady fought tooth and nail, people hate him. The patriots are one of the most hated NFL teams besides the cowboys because Brady keeps winning. He gets booed to oblivion. Even with that, you don't see brady throw a tantrum because people are booing him.

I think it's awful the final year of Smash 4 at Evo was ultimately the worst year because 2 players decided to make a mockery of what is suppose to be a big deal.

STOP. Fucking stop. Enough is enough, every ZeRo video I watch has the “didn’t age well” thing. The man knows what he did, he is sorry, ashamed, already feels the weight of the whole situation, he banned himself from tournaments, and hopefully temporarily stopped content creation which was a huge passion of his, he’s going through therapy, he explained his backstory and unveild stuff he would have never wanted to. Enough is enough. People make mistakes, it’s not fair to do this tho. People can also change, he’s grown, he relized his mistakes and worked and works hard to improve himself as a person, he changed, wants to changed and can still change. But I guess it’s too hard for people to realize.
I swear, even videos that have zero connections to the allegations have "this aged well" slapped in the middle of the comment section.

I’ve played in baseball tournaments against teams I’m friends with and sometimes you can’t help but be a bit silly at times. It’s the players’ choice. Stalling was a no-no, but having fun with it is just a choice

Though I think dave's stupid rule makes sense tho, since imagine how boring smash would be if everyone's just playing the same stage over. A lot of character sturgle on certain stages so it would allow them to be playable rather than *pokemon stadium only*

Well, they do say that smash players smell like... peculiar.
Someone thought that was better to face the cold than the smell.
I was actually at Eglx the year that the “close the doors” stuff happened. It was the end of the day and people were leaving cause the convention was closing down and this was one of the last sets being played.
The doors were opened to allow people to exit faster, but the venue must not have had great ventilation cause the cold air got in really damn quickly.
Was it cold? Yes.
Was it cold enough that it could have majorly affected the people playing? Ehhhhh...
I don’t have that great an understanding of melee so I’m not one to make the call, but I can say that’s it’s not a 100% guarantee that the weather was responsible for Hbox beating Plup.
For any future melee players coming to Canada though...
You might want to bring a jacket and some hand warmers with you just in case.

I watch you in the background on Twitch all the time. Same with Hbox. I really appreciate what you guys do. I just wanted to say it. I will never be as good as any of the people who play in tournaments like you guys do/did, but it gives me something to strive for, and I have a lot of fun in this community.

That last one is actually hilarious. It's like they realized how broken bayonetta was and they had each become top tier bayonetta players by just getting good at exploiting her gimmicks and so they kinda had a telepathy moment where it was like "hey, how about we just make this final set a joke and disrespect Nintendo to their faces by showcasing how silly and broken this character is."
I actually love that so much. It's like "fix your game balance or we'll point out just how much of a mockery this character makes the whole game"
Too bad that it pretty much hurt the rest of the smash community and the FGC. Doing it wasn't the problem. It's where they have done it. It would of been fine if it hadn't happened at one of the most prestigious fighting game tournament in the world.
