Here is a piece of mine called 'Apothecary' on the marvelous Michael Parekōwhai Steinway Piano, He Korero, at Wellington City Gallery in 2018. Filmed by my collaborator, Tyler Burke.
This is an improvised piece, the theme of which was created in 2017 as part of a rhapsody I wrote. The chord progression is a total comfort zone for me. This is what I'll play at 2am to zone out.
It has remained completely unchanged structurally, some melodies reveal themselves, especially after years of sitting with it. I find the colours that this piece creates are the most immersive and organic I have made.
I hope you can find the same comfort that I do in this music. And again - what a suitable instrument to be able to play it on.
