    Hey Luke, I used a insect netting on my 2 rows of cabbage and cauliflower this spring. I lost every cauliflower and part of my cabbage last season. This year using the insect netting I was able to save and put up every one of my cauliflower and all but 1 of my cabbage. One thing i need to keep in mind for next year, to set my hoops out an extra foot and a half to accomidate the growth size. I hope this helps. Thank you for all the videos, I know how much work you put into creating all your content.

      @@michellewelch6013 Hi Michelle, I bought mine from amazon. I bought the 10' x 50' size and I cut them down to 5' x 50' so I could cover my long rows. You want to look for the insect nets. You can use whatever you have to use for a hoop. I hope this helps.

    Love watching your channel. Back when my family had a farming lot, we would divide the garden's ground area in sections needed by the amount of plants we chose to grow. This was mainly for the "sweet" soil lovers which was mainly the cabbage family. All the soil would be enriched with organic matter, but the "Tart" lovers also got peat to make them happy. The cabbage family got extra lime tilled in. We also had beautiful whole leaves with no insect damage. This was achieved with continual "dusting" of the entire plant and surrounding soil with lime. The plants loved it, while the insects hated it ! If the rain washed it away, we were always right out there making sure the girls always powdered their noses 😉

    This was literally the video I needed. I just harvested 2 of the 6 cabbage heads I grew. They were the only 2 to form the smallest head. I am a new gardener and brassicas have been the plants I just can't seem to get to produce much of anything. I am determined though.

    Thanks Luke, I needed this video info! I bought several of your cabbage, kale, and many other, seeds in March and planted the cabbage and kale using the close planting method in April. I have lots of cabbage leaves- all seeds germinated, not one formed head as yet while people are harvesting large heads. We have had lots of rain so I don’t think that watering is the problem. I also used row cover small tunnel which has helped with the cabbage moths, but the slugs are still finding their way in! I'm in zone 5 in Ottawa, Canada 🇨🇦 will try fertlizing with manure and grass clippings....

    I do keto and I’m growing a keto garden lol but man I just can’t grow brassicas! I’m hoping it’ll be easier in the fall without as many pests and heat because broccoli and cauliflower are the main veg that would actually make a dent in my diet that I wouldn’t have to buy at the store. I’m mainly growing things that I can eat like lettuce (spring harvest was great but haven’t been able to grow any in this heat) tomatoes, bell peppers, cabbage and coco zelle squash but I’m also growing some watermelon! I just hope I can grow the broccoli and cauliflower soon!

    Our cabbage is growing and heading fine, however the outer leaves are so big we're barely able to keep them contained In the raised bed, We made Screen dome tops for them so the cabbage moths don't get to them and that has been working awesome, my question is, Is it beneficial to trim the outer leaves?

    Is this true for Brussels sprouts too? I have 5 plants that are not heading yet. The leaves are somewhat cupped but not forming balls yet. Will it take until fall or should they be already? I'm wondering if adding used coffee grounds will help.

      how do you think the coffee will help, wake them up?

    • @IAMGiftbearer
      @IAMGiftbearer 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gohabs9 LOL! I sure hope so. It adds Nitrogen. I did some more reading and it says to also add another source of Nitrogen to the coffee grounds such as grass clippings, manure, commercial fertilizer, or alfalfa (the latter three I don't have and can't buy until net month). I just mainly wanted to know if not having enough Nitrogen is why my Brussels Sprout plants aren't heading, or if it's just not time for them to form the sprouts yet since they're often grown as a cool weather vegetable. Last year my pepper production slowed down until the heat le up and then I got a bunch of fruit production in the Fall.
