    I have been a vendor on a couple of swap meets and had awesome sales by putting a sticker with a price on every item... done really well.

      Exactly right. As a buyer & vendor at various times, I feel that the seller who doesn't price his items is just eyeing me up and trying to decide what I'll pay. I usually don't waste my time. Selling something? Put a price on it.

    I've never been much of a haggler, but my Dad haggled on everything. If the price was $.50, he'd offer a quarter. He was very good at it and only rarely did I see someone get offended. He had an easygoing personality and may talk to someone for 20 minutes, get them laughing and by the time he walked away he had a good deal and you would think that they were life long friends.
    Another secret is bundling. If the dealer has several items you like, see what they will take for the lot. I've had guys throw in items for free because I was buying several other things.

      My cousin when he would bid on hubcaps, he would base his bid on what he could sell first and get his money back (and then some if possible). Once that was done everything else je sold was profit.

    Some of the best stuff I have, has come from swap meets. Sometimes you find nothing, sometimes you find exactly what you want. Last weekend, I found a brand new intake, for about half the regular price. But…I forgot how heavy they are to carry around, the first half hour wasn’t bad, but the next hour was brutal…Model A hoods are also surprisingly heavy..but that’s another story

    A few years back you gave a list of local swap meets and I had great success at those shows. Maybe follow this video up with a list of this year's meets. All good tips Matt.

    A weird trick that usually seems to work for me is when I have something I can't seem to get rid of I put it near the garbage can at my spot. It rarely fails I'll have someone ask about it and most times buy it.

      @bobgaylord8883 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've, sometimes, put a HIGHER price on an item that hasn't sold and have it sell not too long afterwards. If you price something too low, to try & move it, people think there's something wrong with it.

    I actually just booked my vacation day yesterday for the upcoming swap meet in May in a city 2 hours away. We've always gone the Saturday, but it is open from 1-8 PM on Friday, so my dad and I are going to try to see what we can find for my Model A on the first day. It's also the 52nd annual! Appreciate the tips Matt, nice to see you sharing this type of stuff.

    Rule #11 Wear a cardboard sign stating what you are looking for. Rule #12 Take some pics of your car so that you can determine if the part is correct (for example a missing tail light lens). Rule #13 make a note of the isle and spot number of that part you are undecided about buying.

      #13a Take a picture of the seller’s location/booth as well. Kinda like taking where you parked at the airport parking garage.

    Last year at Fall Carlisle, I was looking for a particular intake manifold that Matt and Mike didn't have. Hard to believe, I know. But, they sent me to a seller that did have it. That kind of sharing will bring customers back to their spots year after year.

    BAck in the mid 80s to the early 90s I used to go to the Carlise swap meet to buy used race parts for my street car projects. These are all things you learn from going to the swap meets over a peroid of time. This is a great video for someone who is new to swap meets as well as someone who visits one once in a while. Awesome content Matt.

    Exactly right, Matt! I've found the exact same ten tips to be true in my 40+ years of going to swap meets, large & small. Wish I'd heard this advice when i was starting out, but I was young & stupid and probably wouldn't have paid attention to it.
    Also, as a vendor, I made it my "tip #11", never to offer for sale anything i know is defective or needs a repair, etc. without telling the prospective buyer. I like to sleep at night and it's easier with a clean conscious !

    Love the International KB series front fenders you used on the thumbnail. Tell you what if a guy could buy them fenders for the right price he could sell the stainless trim pieces (or keep the stainless and sell the fenders) and have recoup their cost. Thank you for the videos. I rarely comment but I do I appreciate you.

    Seller tip you will sell you things easier and faster if you PRICE YOU ITEMS. If there's a price people can decide if its something there interested in without talking to you. I've even seen good prices and looked harder at their spot and bought more because I knew where they stood on their items.
