Why did you put a chalk line? Can’t you start against a wall? Also did you put the vinyl tile under the wall or just to the edge? Wondering if tile would move, on account it has nothing to keep it secured.
Thanks for the awesome content. I’m curious about the concrete sealer and if the floor is still holding up well? The instructions state to NOT install on sealed concrete, but im not sure why?
Are you able to explain why you start in the middle of the room? Also, if you could explain how you're measuring your starting pieces and when you don't put the initial piece right up against the wall?
AI says: Keep in mind that most of the time, tiles should begin from the center of the room. This rule doesn't apply to every situation, but it's a good starting point. When it comes to floor tiles, starting from the center of the room will make your job easier, and the tiling pattern will be symmetrical.
That’s up to you. Every room will be differant and there is no set rule. I like going with the longest part of the room. Visually it just looks better but it’s just my opinion
I bought this floor for house renovation. I am a newbie when it comes to flooring installation. Where should be my starting point? Thanks :) for the help and boost in confidence
So whenever I layed my flooring , I found the center of the room (I used squares not rectangles), and I layed a row all the way across the room left to right , and also forward and backward. ( a giant t / cross ) without removing the paper. This allows you to be able to know if you need to move your center piece left or right / forward or back more to be sure you're not left with to small a piece on any of the sides. Then, I stuck my center square down and I got to work.
New Sub here.. love your vids. I had a question did you have to sand or how did you ensure the compound in the expansion joint is flat before sealing and laying the flooring? Thanks so much.
I would love too know this to. I’m putting this in my grandson bedroom. So far I’ve painted the ceiling, walls, and trim. Removed the carpet, padding, and tack strips. Now I’ve got small holes. I’ve scraped the floor. Now I have to wash, fill and seal the floor. Do I have to sand? The patchwork? I can’t wait to finish the peel and stick tile. Thank you for an awesome video.
alot more work than it needs to be. i started laying tiles down at the left of the room working my way over then cut a tile in half and start 2nd row doing back & fourth. came out perfect. also didn't use al those chem prior to laying floor. just clean floor good & thats all & still looks great 2yrs later..
kudos2ya37 I’m sure you did a great job. I needed to clean the floor with a degreaser because it was new construction and I had everything from dust, oil spills and paint all over the floor. Just wanted to be sure it stuck because it’s getting a ton of traffic being a work shop. So far it’s holding up awesome and I’m so glad I went with the product. Appreciate the comment and support!!
Well, you might have gotten lucky because cleaning and sealing any concrete floor prior to an installation like this is one of the most important things that needs to be done if you want it done right.
No No...you are right! I used these in my home and that was about 16 years ago. I did use vinyl flooring glue to give it an extra hold. Other than that, I cleaned floors. Simple clean.
I’m going to be doing the flooring in my bedroom I want to go with the same pattern here but I’m confused on if it matters where or when I lay the vinyl that’s been cut in half
Your so fun that's a very large area for vinyl flooring i hope it holds up well in your shop. Thank God I dont need loads of your fancy tools to do this project lol. This or LVP is on my list of things to do for my hallway & bedroom.Cheers nice job as always👏👏👏
Thanks for the video. It's really helpful, and I like it very much. Especially that you are showing the whole process starting from cleaning. Most of videos are showing just last part of flooring. Thank you. Great job.
Question, maybe I missed it but since you started in the middle, it must not be dead center middle but instead aligned so when you get to the wall you have the fitment for the planks to perfection (or close to that as possible)? Did you mention that in video or is that common sense? having to vertically shave the planks would be incredible annoying to fit the wall.
I start in the middle and work out to the wall. Then I just cut about 1/4 off the wall and then that spot gets covered with a baseboard. Dosent have to be perfect on the wall side. Hope that helps
Where did u purchase i went to home depot and asked for the peel and stick but mine is pretty thick, i just wanted to give our pop up and cheap makeover
This was fun to watch, the speed talking made me laugh, yes, a few important details in the speed talking but a quick rewind and I heard it the second time. Thanks for having a sense of humour with your videos!
Do you have to seal the floor if there was previously a peel and stick tile on the floor before? We had old peel and stick tiles that all popped up over the years in our basement and we want to put the peel and stick vinyl planks down now.
I'm considering at the peel and stick to bedrooms, do I need to remove the molding first? Also, I would've loved if you would have shown a close up of the first alignment against the wall.
I want to do the furnance room area but the floor drain is there and it has a slight swell to the drain what would you do ... this peel and stick ... or small ceramic squares on floor

You use some kind of thread to mark where the vinyl plan starts. Do you use it right in the middle of the floor? Great video btw and I love your interaction with each other!
@chonkydoge he used a chalk line. It’s a small hand held tool that has, I believe is cotton string, with a power chalk. You need to pull it tant to leave a chalk line.
I've heard great things about vinyl being waterproof...does this still apply to the peel and stick? I worry that water might get in through the seams but I also heard you cant finish vinyl...What do you think about this?
Just like with any other vinyl if may get in the cracks, but I have mopped my floor and even spilled water on it and it’s holding up well. As for finishing, I’m guessing your talking about wax, you shouldent have to. Not sure if you can
How would you reccomend to cut around a drain? Should you cut a circle just like the shape of the drain or like a square? Also, ours isnt sticking down too good. 🙁
Thank you for the detailed video. Renovating during the pandemic 🥴Do you recommend this type of flooring in a high traffic living room? Are the floors cold? I read somewhere that this product makes living rooms look uninviting.
It can be cold. I have heard people put this in the living room but I would do something a little more inviting there. Like some nice engineered hardwood. It’s easy to install too
I saw the post about cutting the first plank for the second row. I am assuming I should do this to both sides of the first row and alternates between the cut and full plank. Right?. Also, I removed the old vinyl and used 747 to remove the sticky adhesive. I am installing the planks on a plywood sub floor, should I seal the plywood or am I good to go?
I installed them in my basement bathroom over exsiting square peel and stick and even after all the floor prep a lot of them are lifting. Do you have any suggestions? We have tried a heat gun and setting something heavy on top but after a few hours it lifts back up again.
@user-xp9gr8ub2j. I was told to use Henry’s vinyl adhesive. Also clean the area well. Scrap up any glue and fill any holes. Make sure you’re sealing the floor. Let it dry completely, and vacuum.
Can it work on stairs? can you show me how to cover the stairs with the peel and stick vinyl plank flooring. My stairs are currently with carpet. They are old and dirty, and hard to keep it dust free. Thanks.
1) you strip the stairs of carpet, carpet tacks, and staples 2) clean/scrape stairs/vacuum 3) paint the riser 4) glue down vinyl "cap-a-tread" to cover tread. these are sold in the same color as your planks. they are listed as floor mouldings/accessories.
@@KomarProject when you started did you the first piece in half? And why do you start on farther from the wall instead of starting right by the wall? Do you keep cutting them in half each row or do you do every other? And when you use the chalk i seen you measured out before laying it down, how far out did you measure from the wall? Is that necessary?
@@KomarProject sorry for all the questions planning on doing my room and want to make sure I have everything down 🤣 one more question, what do you use to blend it in to tile if that makes sense like is there A strip I can use to put on there?
I absolutely loved this vid. Hubby and I are exploring options for our guest bathroom floor and laundry as well as a faux wood accent wall in the man cave. I love the chemistry of you and wifey as well. Thanks for sharing. New subbie here
Just wondering how this is holding up. I am about to do a floor in my house. Basic particle wood sub floor. I was going to do a sheet but this might be easier?
Nice video, funny. I wish you didn't speed up through the informative info but, overall an educational and enjoyable video. I didn't think about the sealer and closing the gap in the concrete.
I have laid this on my floor but I am having little gaps in between my planks. Do anybody what I can use to fill in the gaps ? So we I mop the floor the plywood underneath won’t get wet and rot.
It’s depends on your room measurement. The reason people start in the middle or off the wall is because walls are never even and you shouldn’t reference off them. Just measure the planks and lay them out to see how your last row will look. Good luck
Everything I see says you can only apply this to vinyl, concrete or plywood. Why can I not apply it over old hardwood floors? Even if I sanded the finish off of the floors I cannot use this?
So my husband and I want to do this in our living room but currently we have carpet. Can I pull it up and place it on the wood underneath? Will it adhere the same?
Im curious how this would hold up against dogs and potty training puppies and toddlers? Looking to do my living room but also trying to be super cheap about it. Lol. Should I just spend the extra for the clip in planks? Ugh. Help me. Im poor. Hehe.
Jen Halbett omg no. Get this stuff and your going to love it. We have two dogs, two cants and three little girls. We have the floors in the shop, the gym and just installed them in the laundry room. I couldn’t be happier with this stuff. Even in the shop where I drag machines all the time it’s doing amazing. I’m editing the laundry room installation over existing vinyl right now and it should be out sometime next week. Hopefully it will help you make a decision.
@@KomarProject omg thank you for the fast reply! You've convinced me! I'll be doing it this weekend! Shouldn't be hard. 198sq feet of a perfectly square living room! Thanks so much! I can't wait!
i am wanting to install this flooring in my home. I am trying to figure out the best way to lay over plywood subfloors. What do you recommend? Also, should I use a vapor barrier in my bathroom & laundry room? Thanks!
my laundryroom & bathroom both have old sheet vinyl that is in good shape. Would it be best not to use an under layment, and put directly over old vinyl after cleaning?
Y'all really need to get into the RV scene. RV reno's would be such a great avenue for your channel! I am installing peel n' stick this weekend, wish me luck haha.
Alex Coughlin you know I heard that before. Lots of people have asked on here is it’s good for RVs. First I need to convince Honey Bunny to get one lol. Good luck this weekend
@@KomarProject Thank you for the positive feedback! My wife is who talked me into RV'ing and now we are becoming full-timers with our toddler and giant dog. There are a lot of TH-camrs that ended up convincing us we should switch. Loftis Party of Six, Keep Your Daydream, Nomadic Fanatic, A Chick's Life and many others. My personal goal is to get a large AC metal building and flip Airstreams because there is a huge profit on those, as well as they are great trailers.
Great video. We have vinyl on the floor down stairs and it's just concrete under it but we want to use this kind of vinyl aside from what the builder did when building the house so would we need to do anything else to the floor other than clean it or add anything to it. We are redoing the kitchen, downstairs bathroom and the foyer
Shakena Mincey if you have flooring over the concrete now then they should have sealed it. But you never know with builders. I would throw a quick coat of sealer on it for the vapor barrier. It will help it stick too. Just in case
Hey! I am wondering which products you used for prep. I couldn't catch it. Also I am tipping up the carpet in our living room and is just concrete underneath from what I've been told. Then in the kitchen will be over old vinyl, bathroom ripping up the vinyl because there is a crack in the cement and needs to be repaired before putting anything iver it. Is your suggestion to do step by step what you did in this video! Also, after cleaning it and doing the prep I saw you guys walking on it no big deal and making the chalk line and then not recleaning. So my question is, is that okay? Do you have any sections lifting at all it suggestions about that? Lastly(I think) why did you choose to start in the middle of the room? Thanks!
So I cleaned it with a neutral cleaner, basically any cleaner will do for the most part that you have at home. I sealed it with a product from Behr called low luster concrete sealer, and filled the expansion joint with Henry's patch and level. Both products you can get at Home Depot. After you clean it your good to walk on it as long as your not tracking in any dirt, also the sealer will seal any remaining dirt or dust that might be left over. As for starting in the middle it was because my walls were not square (most walls are not perfect 90*) and I needed to go into another room with it. so I did a chalk like that was square to both rooms. Lastly the floor has been amazing for us. NOthing has popped up or moved even with me dragging heavy machines all over it. Honetly couldent be happier. Hope this helps. Good luck.
You really need to do the prep work if not you could have lumps in floor that will show or tear through and most importantly is the sealing of the floor the laminate will bond tighter and last longer! Good luck with it!
myviews it might. As long as the linoleum is not a floating floor. I’m not exactly sure. I would check with the manufacturer. Good luck. I just did a video over existing vinyl. Check it out there is some good info in there if your doing it
Is there a wrong way in terms of placement? I saw you worked center floor out as opposed to laying down all the perimeters first. If so what are the advantages of doing it from the center out?
No you don’t. But you do need to seal the concrete. I have heard some people using additional adhesive but the manufacturer doesn’t say anything about it.
shumaelrock they sit flush next to each other. I did another video installing them and it shows how they lay next to each other a bit better then this one. Good luck

Yes it would be and you still need to seal the plywood. A wood sealer or primer works

What about putting vinyl sealer in between the planks?
I have sealed concrete floors already, do I need to do any stripping of the finish to make the planks stick? Or will using a primer do the job?
Using primer should do the trick. I never installed over a finished floor before.
Thanks! This is the first place I’ve lived with concrete floors so I’m unsure too.

It can be cold. I have heard people put this in the living room but I would do something a little more inviting there. Like some nice engineered hardwood. It’s easy to install too
Great video! Did you leave an expansion gap or stick right up to the wall?
I saw the post about cutting the first plank for the second row. I am assuming I should do this to both sides of the first row and alternates between the cut and full plank. Right?. Also, I removed the old vinyl and used 747 to remove the sticky adhesive. I am installing the planks on a plywood sub floor, should I seal the plywood or am I good to go?
Yes you should definitely seal the subfloor. A primer or wood sealer will work.
How do I find the center? Should I start at the center or the doorway?
Great video. Is the peel n stick not too hard to walk on going on concrete?
Nope not at all
Can it work on stairs? can you show me how to cover the stairs with the peel and stick vinyl plank flooring. My stairs are currently with carpet. They are old and dirty, and hard to keep it dust free. Thanks.
Angel chau I’m not sure about stairs, I guess you could younwould just need to find some sort of edge to finish the front of the step with.
Hi, how do you get the perfect line down the middle? And what did you use?
Chalk line. You can but it in any hardware store. It’s a retractable string that has chalk on it.
But what about over playwood subfloor??? How do you clean that??
I absolutely loved this vid. Hubby and I are exploring options for our guest bathroom floor and laundry as well as a faux wood accent wall in the man cave. I love the chemistry of you and wifey as well. Thanks for sharing. New subbie here
TIFFANY CONNOLLY that’s awesome!!! I’m sure you guys can knock out the flooring project together. Thanks for the support !!!
Just wondering how this is holding up. I am about to do a floor in my house. Basic particle wood sub floor. I was going to do a sheet but this might be easier?
We sold that house with it but after a year it was great.
Nice video, funny. I wish you didn't speed up through the informative info but, overall an educational and enjoyable video. I didn't think about the sealer and closing the gap in the concrete.
Ya after I posted it I though about the speeding up too. But glad you still got something out of it.
I have laid this on my floor but I am having little gaps in between my planks. Do anybody what I can use to fill in the gaps ? So we I mop the floor the plywood underneath won’t get wet and rot.
Can you use sugar soap to clean the floors? (usually used in the UK to clean walls before painting)
Do I have to start in the center of the room? Or if I don't would that throw off the final row??
It’s depends on your room measurement. The reason people start in the middle or off the wall is because walls are never even and you shouldn’t reference off them. Just measure the planks and lay them out to see how your last row will look. Good luck
@@KomarProject awesome thanks for getting back with me. Keep up the great work!
Putting this in basement. What if floor is pitched a bit and uneven?
As long as it’s all even throughout you should be fine
How to clean? Do I need to seal. Ty Subscribed
You don’t need to seal the planks after install and we just clean it with a swiffer mop
What would happen if I put new peel and stick vinyl planks on top of old peel and stick??
Nothing really. We did the process in our laundry room. We also did a video of it. Should help you.
Everything I see says you can only apply this to vinyl, concrete or plywood. Why can I not apply it over old hardwood floors? Even if I sanded the finish off of the floors I cannot use this?
Hard wood floors move with the seasons. And it will open up the seams
hope you guys are well, one question what is the sealent for? cant figure it out?
@faustino5916, the sealer is too prevent moisture seeping through the concrete. Also gives good adhesion.
Can that Henrys patching be used on linoleum, not sure if its just for concrete...? Thanks!
I’m not sure either. I would contact the manufacturer
So my husband and I want to do this in our living room but currently we have carpet. Can I pull it up and place it on the wood underneath? Will it adhere the same?
It should. You will have to seal the wood first and then place it on the plywood
Can I place this on painted concrete and if not what can I use to remove the paint
Yes you can. Paint actually seals it.
Could this be applied straight on to an MDF floor ?
Awesome video, I’m in Australia, and I hope to lay these vinyl stick planks next week. Thank you, for your advice
Kylie T no problem. I’m sure it will turn out great Kylie !!
Can you show how to remove it? Is there any residue left over? Or is it just as easy and clean?
Ya it comes up from concrete really nice with no residue. I replaced some planks recently and just popped in new ones. Video coming soon
Jen Halbett no problem. Good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask anytime.
Looks great! I wonder how it would last over plywood subfloor. Any thoughts?
OhYeahAboutThat ya you totally should be able to. Just make sure you seal the plywood. I heard people seal it with a primer.
Thanks! I haven’t had good luck with this kind over concrete. I wasn’t sure about plywood.
OhYeahAboutThat ya it should work. I also did a video installing it over existing vinyl flooring we had in the laundry room.
Komar Project right. That was the first one I watched! Thanks again.
i am wanting to install this flooring in my home.
Make sure you seal the plywood. Wood sealer or primer
Can you install stick tile to stairs ok
I never have
Y'all really need to get into the RV scene.
Hi.. can i install these flooring on existing wooden floors?
Hardwood floors? No. Hard wood moves with time and it will open up the seams.
@@KomarProject okay thanks
Thanks! I will definitely be doing all the cleaning and prep work! I say better to over do something than underdo!
What prep is needed if the concrete was painted, and worn out?
Just repaint it and make sure it’s level. Paiting will reseal it
@@KomarProject thank you - i just took another look and it has the rendered look - if that makes sense? So a level slab with a rough look?
Hi looks great do you think this product would work on top linoleum ?
myviews it might.
There really is no wrong way. As long as you keep you cuts to 8” or more and go in a straight line.
Do we need to use adhesive along with the self-stick flooring on the basement floor?
No you don’t. But you do need to seal the concrete. I have heard some people using additional adhesive but the manufacturer doesn’t say anything about it.
very good video
I would like to ask how long this self-adhesive vinyl lasts
So far we have had it for almost two years and still works great
You really just cannot have that much fun at work. loved the video. Cheers from Michael Australia
mijodo2008 sometimes way more then that. Just have to enjoy it or it truly just becomes work them. Cheers come Chicago !!
Does it need to aclomat for 24 hrs before installation?
Not really
Great videos! Your so funny! Thank you!
do the planks sit flush with one another or is there small gap between the planks like there would between hardwood planks? Great vid
shumaelrock they sit flush next to each other. I did another video installing them and it shows how they lay next to each other a bit better then this one. Good luck
What are blue lines marked on concrete
It’s just a Chalk line
