Well, the apartments were both interesting and depressing at the same time...dark, dank, filthy windows and criminal rent prices. But seeing Violet get all her presents and running back and forth happily then eating frosting like we all do then saying "Mine" (I think that's what she said) like all us typical girls lol took our minds off that sad state of affairs called the New York rental market. Happy Birthday, Violet and thanks for sharing your birthday happiness with the rest of us! We needed it after witnessing man's inhumanity to man, charging people gross amounts of money for tiny, almost inhuman but much needed living spaces.

With the rent at 72,000 dollars a year with no elevators I would pass on this one. You have shown several units that are better value where it is not necessary to walk up several flights.
Or live in a hotel. Long term rates, even in Manhattan, are very affordable compared to renting an apartment. If I lived in a big city, I would definitely check it out.

The first place should have been a 2 bed 2 bath. 3rd room was an overkill. I would personally prefer the 2nd place. Even though both have 1 bath each, the 2nd place's bathroom seems more spacious. You can always add more counter space with a rolling counter top. Also, happy birthday Violet🥳 I can relate to eating the frosting as a kid 😂
Love the second one. The used brick walls are awesome. You can always put blinds, shutters, etc. and still let light in without having to look at the adjacent building! 😉 Happy Birthday, Violet!🥳🥳🎂🎂

I know that area well. I don’t know what would drive a person crazy first: having to squeeze by two other people in an apartment laid out like that or dealing with the restaurant lined streets with thronging tourists all the time. I also think of my parents and the parents of the people I grew up with in the Village and Little Italy turning over in their graves at 6K a month. Happy Birthday Violet. Did I miss the easel unveiling?
You know, just out of curiosity I would love to meet someone that you actually rent one of these $6000 cracker boxes to. I'd love to see how many people actually move in and how they do end up arranging their beds and using those "closets." That would be a very interesting follow up to these tours where I find it inconceivable that anyone could make a life in one of these cramped overpriced places, especially with multiple people sharing it.
If I were sharing one of those apartments I would set my room up with a daybed and a desk instead of a large bed so it would be workable to mostly live in my room except at meal times. Those apartments are just too small for people who don't really know each other that well. Maybe students who are not going to be home that much.
@@southernhippie9058 Definitely...most people don't need a queen size bed and you could free up a tiny bit more room for a desk. Still, I would rather spend my cut of $6000 (let's say $2000 if it's split three ways) on a studio so I at least have some privacy. These multiple people set ups in weirdly converted, cramped properties are such a turn off. But then, I find NY to be claustrophobic and unworkable anyway.
I would love to meet someone that you actually rent one of these $6000 cracker boxes That would be someone earning $150k plus /year in NYC. Not unusual.

I have a modest apartment in Queens for $1,200 which is rent stabilized, thus very affordable -- and I am in in alone. Great privacy. I can have friends over when I want to, and be alone when I want to. Better than living with other people in a fancier place.
Second apartment: 1. The bathroom placement/situation is great (bathtub, laundry, much more space) 👍👌; 2. The kitchen could use a rolling cart/island in it; 3. Ductless hvac units needed in the whole apartment. 3. Very good storage options in the kitchen and bedrooms. Otherwise, this apartment is better than the first one, though both are newly renoed and modern styled.
I'd go for apartment two. It has a pretty nice kitchen, a nice living room that actually gets natural light and has a decent view, and all of the bedrooms get natural light. That outdoor space is a game changer, too. Although, $6K is steep! But I guess with roommates at $2K a person, it isn't TOO bad for the location. Also, that bathroom is MUCH nicer! No windows. It cannot be marketed as a bedroom. You can do what you want after you move in. But they can't say it has 3 bedrooms. They cost too much for so little and horrible layouts. These costs 5k too much.
1000 Dollars is still pushing it. I'd give 500 max for this. Seems like if you add a window which lets in a tiny little ray of sunlight it adds like a grand on the price.
My husband and I live in an 1800 square foot home which we modified the master bedroom suite into a studio for his retired sister to live in. And our mortgage is less than $2000 a month! Oh and we’re on about five acres of land thirty miles northeast of Seattle. Thanks to your videos I appreciate where I live even more than ever!
Daylight robbery with the rent!! 😲Take me back to Hudson, NY, 1958, when the rent was in line with the income. We lived in a large apartment over a men's clothing store. My mom loved it. A flashing red light bulb sign with the Time/Temp right mounted right outside the livingroom window, but so what - we didn't need a clock! 😄

That shower in the first place was way too small. No way to bend over to shave legs.
