I am still a big fan of the classic Yusuf Ali translation, even though it is Shakespearian to some. Millions still read it today and get inspired by it. I think it gives the feeling of a devine message along with a beautiful prose. In my opinion it's literary masterpiece. However, I do support any genuine new attempts to make the translations more easy to understand as not everyone is well versed in classical literature. Thanks for the interview, enjoyed it. 👍

The only explanation of verse 4:34 that makes sense to me is the one that asserts that God is speaking not to “men” or “husbands”, but to the entire Muslim community. This is because the very next verse says “and if you fear a breach between the two, then appoint an arbiter from his people and an arbiter from her people. If they desire reconciliation, God will bring about agreement between them. Truly God is Knowing, Aware.”
Now if God where specifically addressing husbands or men, it would make no sense for the next verse to address fear of a breach between another couple unless the husband in question had the power of astral projection and would then refer to himself in 3rd person.
Otherwise my understanding is that the aim of the verse is to root out sexual impropriety from society by using gradual punishments described in verse 4:15 and Surah 24. However I do not believe that it gives husbands the authority to beat their wives, no matter how “lightly” the beating will be, because it puts complete authority of this issue in the hands of the husbands alone, while other verses of the Quran reprimand husbands who accuse their wives without producing four witnesses, namely 24:6.
This is the only interpretation of verse 4:34 that actually seems thoroughly consistent with itself. I believe both Dr. Shabir Ally and Khaled Abu Fadl hold this view.
Therefore I believe that the issue with that verse is not a mistranslation but rather a misreading.

This reader-friendly translation approach is a very good idea because even though English is commonly spoken in the “colonised” world of Islam, it is only a very basic understanding of English. I have many “highly-educated” friends like doctors and engineers who do not understand Muhammad Asad’s translation simply based on vocabulary. Today, the newer generation of people are not raised as “readers of profound, classic literature” hence the common complaint among western readers that the Quran I.e. translation is hard to understand. JZK and may Allah swt accept your and Paul’s effort and dedication to spread the message of the Quran.

All religious texts seem to 'suffer' from similar problems: genuine?, authorship, date(s) of authorship, translation and interpretation. What irks me is that religious texts, supposedly divine, are given the same treatment as other historical texts. For example, words and phrases are continually re-interpreted. In the Quran humans are created from a clot of blood. But I read that it does not mean blood but some other fluid. This is confusing.

But as for those who do not believe: there is heaviness in their ears, and it is blindness for them. These are being called from a distant place.”)

I'm from the same region as Dr Musharraf and a majority don't regard many of this man's views as being representative of Islam and he often goes off on tangents completely unrelated to Islam but appears to come from an Islamic perspective. It's wise to take his views as simply another person who happens to be Muslim rather than any sort of authority on the subject. He likes to talk about his work history in education and as a result thinks of himself as somebody who is in a position to bridge the cultures and break barriers but his disregard for nuance and respect for his peers is what makes him seem largely ignorant and insensitive. He visited Israel despite their oppression of the Palestinians too. His translation was challenged by his peers and after accepting he would make changes to the errors he made he went further to become incredibly defensive about being told that he was wrong by his Islamic peers in a video..you can find it online. Bottom line, find better scholars to debate with. There's is a science to translating the holy Quran and there is a very concrete peer reviewed process for it to be accepted as accurate. Look up "the official verdict on the majestic Quran" on TH-cam and even "Dr Musharraf's response" to the scholars.
It's ignorant to think that none of the scholars over 1400 years have had the epiphany to "simplify" the holy Quran and arrogant to think that you can. The language used in even the English translations are sometimes complex to convey the closest meaning to the Arabic. The Qur'an cannot be simplified in such a manner as this man tries to do as if the world isnt educated beyond primary school. The word of Allah does not need man to simplify it for Allah's creations to understand, consider that.

Musharaf Hussain is a modern day Sir Sayyid. He has violated many of the beliefs held in orthodox Islam. I have personally heard him say, it is part of his Aqidah to love the British Flag. His deviation is misleading many people especially those whose understanding of the core tenets of Islam is weak. This Pied piper is leading many honest Muslims to new levels of deviance.

In translation studies, there're two types of translations. The reader-oriented, and the writer-oriented translations. The translation in question is reader-oriented type as it gives priority to the reader over the writer. regarding accuracy of rendition. Since the words 'the father' and 'the son' make more sense to the reader, who relates more to them than 'begets' and 'be begotten'm which are more accurate translation of the Arabic words. So this type of translation gives the translator a free hand in translation any sacred text. In this Surah it's acceptable, even preferable, but it it could be very risky in other Ayahs as in the ayah of 'hitting' the disobedient wife. The translator has grocessly mistranslated the Arabic word (BTW, there's no hadith in which the Prophet used the tooth stick or siwak to exemplify the action)

English has not significantly moved on when it comes to translating the Qur'an in the last hundred years.
With all due respect to the Dr (I kind of know him, he's a great guy) he's not an expert in Arabic or English.
Vercification is a great way to translate the Qur'an. If vercification is not good, why should paragraphing be any better? Is the Qur'an written in paragraphs?
Next someone will say we need a Qur'an in the language of the youth today (texting). As follows: I gona bcus 4y lol bruv...

    • @moonmun7482
      @moonmun7482 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think vericification is okay, and also paragraph-like is also okay in terms of the layout of the translation. But must We know that the Quran revealed to Prophet Muhammad in Gradually in his life time being a prophet.. So example when Prophet Muhammad is experiencing a problems or difficulties about a matter, so that are some verses of the Qur'an had to be revealed, at least there are more than one to five in one context of revealed the ayah.. That's why If we follow the context of the revealed of the verse then it will be like a paragraph that one verse will still continue to another verse and it is still in one context and better to write in paragraph. So that's why in learning the Quran we also learn the asbab Un nuzul (the cause of that ayah revealed)

  • @datodrali3998
    @datodrali3998 ปีที่แล้ว +1

With all due respect, without versification we may easily misunderstand the true meaning of the verse. Truely certain verses we can gather and put in a chapter but not all verses. Wallahu a'lam.

A lot of translation errors. It's a pity that the translator doesn't manage Arabic as good as English. A bad example is the translation of Sura 17 Al-Isra´. The Arabic text on the last prophecy is understood to be in the feature, the translation uses past sentence.

Best English translation of the Qur'aan is by Muhammad Asad, 'The Message of the Qur'aan'. Over 1000 pages, with footnote commentry, cross referencing with different verses and authentic ahadith to clarify some verses. The followers of fiqh, i.e. Hanafi, Shafi etc do not like Muhammad Asad because Asad condems taqlid and the poor interpretations of the Qur'aan. Sufis will not like it as Asad condems Saint worship and the idea of intercessors. Salafis will not like it because Asad does not accept everything in Muslim and Bukhari is 100% authentic. I would say Asad's tafseer is for the educated lay Muslim. The style of English is modern, though he rejects making the English so simple that it makes a mockery of the devine revelation.

Paul I came across one of your video with a naive Christian on a Muslim channel. You mentioned something I wish to correct, You said Paul is lying when he mentioned in 1 Corinthians that the messiah will die and rise again in the 3rd day in accordance with the scriptures. Here’s why you’re wrong….
First Paul didn’t use the word messiah. He mentioned Christ, not messiah.
Secondly if you know how prophecy works, It doesn’t always reflect a historical context rather a symbolic statement of what is to come. What matters is if the former coincide with the later in indisputable ways. Jesus mentioned that He will give the sign of Jonah in the three gospels of Luke, Mathew and Mark and most biblical scholars will accept that this is true historical statement of Jesus as it appeared in this three gospels.
Mathew 12:39 But he replied to them, “An evil and adulterous generation craves a sign. Yet no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
Jonah stayed three days and night and was vomited out by a fish.
Jesus was crucified buried and He remained in the grave for 3 days.
But Jonah and Jesus has coinciding parallels. Some will say Jonah didn’t die while he was in the fish belly therefore can’t match the prophecy but this is flawed because in our literal world no way someone can survive three days in a fish belly so he(Jonah) died in our littoral world just as Jesus did.
Lastly you said the gospel writers were making things up. And you cited
Matthew 2:23 And he went and lived in a city called Nazareth, so that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, that he would be called a Nazarene.
But you’re wrong because you developed the habit of reading the scriptures so literal that you forgot that some words has idiomatic meanings.
The word Nazareth comes from a Jewish root word “ne·ṣer” meaning branch. Same root word used in
Isaiah 11:1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse,
and a “branch” from his roots shall bear fruit.
Whichever scribes that wrote down the gospels knew the scriptures more than you and I, and to allude that they’re making things up especially when they draw a parallels from the Old Testament is delusional because they’re not writing to dummy audience they’re writing to ppl who already knew the scriptures. And according to scholars gospel of Mathew is specifically written for the Jews who already knew the scriptures.
I therefore urge do your home work before you come out to talk about Christianity. The fact you don’t believe in it doesn’t mean you will have to misrepresent the faith.

God would have no need of prophets, angels, churches/mosques , clerics, books and teachers continually teaching and prosyletizing day after day, year after year, a religion. If the cosmos was the creation of a God why all this? Teaching and spreading any religion seems no different to other human social and political affairs and disciplines..... followers merely see it as something divine.

Lastly we believe Jesus to be the messiah not in the Jewish context but in the eschatological sense as the pioneer of all human salvation into the perfect kingdom of God.
I saw how you’re dancing around about the crucifixion of Jesus, you demanded a historical evidences for the crucifixion and you undermined the gospels as not being historical reliable about the crucifixion.
But can you provide a historical evidence according to your criteria that backed up the statement in Surah 4:157?
You diverted and alluded if the Quran say it didn’t happen we have to pay attention to it because since God is the author of the Quran and God knows everything so we have to believe god’s statement in the Quran. But this is based on assumption, I mean there’s no evidence to prove that the Quran is coming from God instead there’s contrary to that.
So I will challenge you to provide all the necessary evidence you can, that proves God Himself authored the Quran.

His translation is very, very poor. It is clear that he lacks the basics of Arabic grammar, which depends heavily on context
And the saying “father and son ” in Surat Al-Ikhlas is a bad translation may lead to a misconception
, because in Arabic it does not mean that at all,

    • @ahmedalotaibi4477
      @ahmedalotaibi4477 ปีที่แล้ว

The translation must be literally exact
Surat Al-Ikhlas does not specify gender or shape , type of the creator, and this is one of its important miracles that is in place to respond to even those who hold Darwin’s theory, not just Christians.
We should not replace the word “Strike” with something else because it’s a gesture, but how, can be explained in the Note.
The claim that angels are females is an outrageous claim that cannot be supported by the Qur’an and Sunnah.
moreover the responsibility was given to the man, not because of spending money on the woman only, and it is a responsibility and not an honor
This responsibility, as the verse explains, is due to the difference in creation, the superiority of a man’s natural physical capabilities, and the least created natural weaknesses
Generally, reader don’t like to feel tricked because it indicate we have something to hide, Tafseer even in Arabic is important to interbit any verse or word

Second.....you should call every translation " the meanings translation " not "the english quran "....because there is no such thing....there is only one quran and it is in arabic
Third the meaning you translate ...must be the meaning that the " mufasserrene "....talked about in the books of tafsseer.....like ibn katheer.....not the meanings you understand....
Fourth....you should know that english language can not stands for all the meaning in the quran

    ADDRESSED TO DR. MUSHARRAF HUSSAIN
OBE 2009 - I have experienced “COMMUNITY” here in the UK as meaning EXCLUSIVELY TRIBAL (RACIST) - AND MAINLY PUNJABI!
Dr Musharraf Hussain is dead wrong in his interpretation of the rendered meaning or translation of
يُولَدْ وَلَمْ يَلِدْ لَمْ - Lam yalid walam yooladu"- God neither begets nor is He begotten".
It is all about GOD REPRODUCING HIS KIND AND BEING HIMSELF THE PRODUCT OF SUCH A REPRODUCTION akin to human sexual reproduction as was and still is the case in many religions, literally or metaphorically.
Dr. Hussain’s reduction of the versified style (“a disservice”, he claims) rendering to a “paragraphised” rendering (emanating from his unique genius mind!) is definitely NOT the best style in which to translate or render the meaning of any Holy Text. There is nothing wrong with a thematic review paraphrasing the Holy text in “plain” English, and I am sure Dr. Musharraf Hussain’s “translation” would prove very interesting, but I can already see the ugliness of his style and his boasting to be completely out of place! He will obviously please his tribe, his Sect, but not mainstream Muslims worldwide. Even the print layout quality of his book is repulsive to my personal taste!
I agree with him that the English language is evolving and the older renderings or translations of the Holy Book need to be updated by a team of scholars, but I would never trust one OBE, a decorated Slave of Empire, to do that correctly.
Dr. Musharraf Hussain’s rendering of “Verse” 3 of Surah Ikhlas proves my point. “Every day English” is not Queen’s or BBC English, but popular street and market place English, slang, cockney, Jamaican, African, West Indian, Indian, LHBTQ+, TRANS, or whatever, and definitely not the language to transmit a Sacred Text. He removes the terms beget and begotten, and replaced them with “Father” and “Son” - “He is not a father nor a son”? Feminists will obviously hate this!
The old renderings do not “INSULT THE MODERN READER”, as Dr. Hussain claims, because efforts have never stopped in their updating! My old acquaintance Imâm Muhammad al-‘Asi of Washington D.C. (former member of Dr. Kalim Siddiqui’s Majlis as Shura fi Britanya, commonly known as The Muslim Parliament of Great Britain) started publishing
“The Ascendant Qur'an: Realigning Man to the Divine Power Culture.”
His mother-tongue is Arabic and one who will never obtain any OBE or even an OSWH (Order of Saudi Wahhabi Heresy). His efforts reached some 14 volumes, which I expected to be the best rendering of the Holy Text ever to be made, but I decided not to buy any of them because I was already fed up with all existing “translations” and renderings, the good, the bad, and the crappy.
I am even repulsed by Dr. Musharraf Hussain’s title itself: “MAJESTIC QUR’AN” when the original Arabic itself is absent in there! Others before him used the word “NOBLE”! God made the Qur’an easy to understand, but no non Arab speaking Muslim ever understood it until “Punjabi” OBE Hussain appeared in the UK?
Question 1: Why does Dr. Hussain translate Baqarah by COW? I always understood it was about the Golden CALF worshipped by the Children of Israel?
Question 2: Why does he show ARABIA on a map and call it SAUDI Arabia? Is he a Wahhabi (Crypto-Jewish) too?
Question 3: Older translations make the Qur’aan “OUTDATED”?
Question 4: His “majestic” book is NOT A TRANSLATION OF THE QUR’AN IN PLAIN ENGLISH, but just a thematic review of its contents? True or false?

*Allah bukanlah Roh.
He he he...
Sama dengan kalimat tadi, kalimat "Hidup kita adalah *karunia Allah.*" Itu harus difahami sebagai *"Karunia dari Allah"*. Titik.
