The impact that JP has had on the music world can not be understated. For me personally, as a goofy, unpopular kid, JP as well as the Heavy Metal community as a whole had such a huge embracing welcome that I feel it helped me get through some very hard times in my life and for that I can't thank JP, Maiden, Sabbath and tons of other Metal bands enough.
People always ask me, who do you think is the best male vocalist in the world. I reply, Rob Halford. They say..who?? I say 'Rob Halford'. Not Andrea Boccelli, not Pavarotti, not Bruce Dickinson and not Elton John. What a man! What a voice! Heavy metal rules!!!
Dam Halford can belt out his lyrics. One of the most powerful voices in metal imo. Being out as a gay man in metal today isn't that controversial, but in the 80's it would have been disastrous for him to publicly announce such a thing.
MyworstEnemy Yet the hardcore fans knew waaaaay back when, most of us as straight and manly as manly gets, and didn't flinch. Halford isn't an asshole about his homosexuality, I think that makes a huge difference. I can't imagine what he's had to endure keeping it a secret as long as he did. I love that man and yet people have called me homophobic when I get annoyed by certain things. Personally, I think that is such a bullshit word created by the extreme left. No problem with gays. I do have a problem with obnoxious gay public displays though. When men act far more feminine that any female it becomes a pain in the ass.
aerlial360 totaly agree. No one makes fun of the usual gays. Just those over feminine guys who are just a pain in the ass. *g* If a woman with the same behaviour/weird acting...you'd call here a bimbo or a fake bitch.
Rob Halford is a wonderful singer and seems like a great guy. His private life is nobodies business but his own, I can't understand people's obsession with intruding in all aspects of people's lives.
You totally nailed it! I remember watching this video back in the day and feeling that something was not right about Glenn. First thing I did when I got the Battlecry DVD was to check if he was behaving as usual onstage to stop being worried about this. But he clearly wasn't, so I was expecting this kind of announcement sooner or later...
Seen them 2 weeks ago... Glenn wasn't there :( Andy, their producer tours with them now. Sad, but they still killed it! I hope Glenn gets better soon...
In my opinion one of the most impressive bands ever, Rob did go through a stage where his voice went a bit....and i stopped listening to them...but then dragonaught and i was like HOOOOLYY... he's back big time...not bad for a band formed in what 69?
Who gives a fuck about rob's sexuality. The guy is a beast he is one of the fathers of metal amazing singer ,great guy and unique artist. We love rob we love judas priest.
I always had a feeling that Paul and Sean from Cynic were gay but its still kind of shocking. Focus is a brilliant record and has inspired my own playing for years. Its cool that they came out, I think the metal community is way less narrow minded than it use to be. My love of titties wont deter me from jamming cynic anytime soon.
The fact people even pay attention to it and make a fuzz about this proves the metal community is still quite narrow minded if you ask me. Who cares what someone's sexual preference is.
"Metal is all that matters." What a class act. If only every gay viewed their sexuality as just that, their sexuality, and not an issue defining their very lives, we'd be so much better off.
Heavy metal parking lot in the 80s is not the same as today. Now they make you leave your car with in 1 minute of arrival. So there is no drinking drugs .You have to pay 15.00 for a beer inside the venue. No pot cant even smoke in venue . remember the days the whole place smelled of refer
@@nate-ds9tg Because obviously there's a certain Judas Priest sound that they're known for - every established band has that, especially legendary ones who are known to be pioneers of a specific genre. That's as dumb as asking a metal band if there's going to be distorted guitars on their next album.
Bro..m massive respect to Judas! My favorite band from the heavy metal scene and massive respect for rob being gay in a time where most considered a crime. Which is the most stupidist s*** I've heard! Proud bros! F the system
Not gay and if you look at world stats your comment is false. But, in 2018 acceptance of others should be more important than hatred. It’s a personal relationship with Christ or God that the bible demands. What did Christ say was the SECOND GREATEST of these commandments? Love thy nieghbor, thy fellow human being. Hate in the other hand would be judged the same way as murder.
Being gay has nothing to do with this. Gay bars and other gatherings they have don't play metal. Pass by any gay club, etc and the music is blasting house music or modern r&b. Obviously most fans of metal don't care about this or want to hear about another story about being homosexual. You hear and see it all the time now. He should just talk about music.
Tappa Tappa Ok, Anyways most are not gay I know I been around metal fans for over forty five years, look at the rock singers in the past, Rolling Stones, Elton John and hundreds more Rock or pop stars that were gay, that doesn't say the fans are, true reality is most metal fans are agressive attitude, at the least, go to a concert and anyone can see they can get very brutal, but we all are human and our sexuality is a personal matter. Metal changed alot and I believe the most talented people are in metal, it takes artist, writters and great singers!
I'm a gay metal fan and I know for a fact that this is completely untrue. 90% of the gay guys I've met are usually into pop music like Gaga, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Katy Perry, ect, and I've never actually met a gay metalhead. I hate to stereotype, but in some cases they're actually true, this being one of them.
@anotherplanet000 Sadly, you're right, and I think they're missing out on a lot of great music because of that. I always loved hard rock's energy, attitude, fashions, etc., so when I discovered Priest back in the mid-80's, they quickly became one of my all-time favorite bands. Rob's on-stage presence, and incredible voice made a big impression on me as a gay kid growing up. When he came out in the 90's, it was just the icing on the cake for me. He's still my "Metal God," and continues to inspire me. I only have one gay friend who loves hard rock/metal like I do, and it's cool to be able to go to shows, or go have a beer and a burger at Kuma's (heavy metal burger joint in Chicago) with him. I just wish there were more of us more visible.
Such bollocks mate if there is a god (which seems unlikely) surely he/she would just care about people being kind, treating each other with respect and being safe and happy in the world - Rob's gay ..so what? It doesn't make a difference to how he is as a person or to the music - everyone is different - would you rather he lived a lie / felt sad and empty to please the people who for whatever reason take an issue with homosexuality ..would God want that? I doubt it!
Why? Have you not read the Old Testament where it talls about King David loving Johnathon in a manner that surpasses his love for women? Or read back to realize that the woman who adopted Moses was a lesbian who was washing in the river after an orgy with her household staff (that were all women).
Had the honor to meet Rob Halford. Great guy who is humble and very genuine.
Great interview

"Metal is all that matters." What a class act. If only every gay viewed their sexuality as just that, their sexuality, and not an issue defining their very lives, we'd be so much better off.
+Karl Karlsen Well if only people wouldn`t discriminate gays for their sexuality, maybe they would have been able to do what you asked.
If their was no discrimination, no one would have to fight for equel rights.
It's sad to see people have to come out still..
On the upside, the more people come out, the less of a big deal it becomes. And the less necessary the whole awkward, difficult process becomes.
Karl Karlsen actually its to bad people don't believe what Romans chapter 1:16-32(kjv) says! It would be a better world.
Honor to The Judas
Pushing the furnace, for the final grandpa!
I think Glen may have fallen asleep during this interview.
Rock 'n' roll pioneer Little Richard was also gay.

Well being gay in the metal world is kind of controversial, because it’s not very accepting. It took courage for him to come out.
Hate that hat a lot, i whant to see his head tatoos
Have to admit aswell as being one of the best vocalists in metal he seems very down to earth despite his sexuality he seems a good person.
