I saw a ruby that seemed much more bug-eyed than other colors. Is this common? It almost looked like ET to me. I’m wondering if the color makes the eyes look more protruding?
The markings on the face of the other 3 colors does have a softening effect on the dog's apparent expression. That's one of many reasons why you see so many Blenheims doing well at the big dog shows, and hardly ever a Ruby. However, it's also true that some Cavaliers' eyes bulge a bit more than others, which is not the best look for the breed. This can happen with any color.
There are many choices for food. A good quality kibble will give a balanced diet, and is easier to store and serve than fresh soft food. I use Royal Canin Small Breed Adult kibble - it has all the micro-nutrients Cavaliers need. I serve it with a little warm water, and sometimes add egg or meat.

I just got a sweet female Tri-color her name is Charlotte and she is 18 weeks old now….we have had her for 8 weeks …she can be AKC registered…I have no intentions on showing her but perhaps one litter of pups so I can have another one!! I can see why you have so many they are just wonderful dogs❤️ I would love to share a pic with you via your email address…would that be okay with you? If you are considering breeding your girl - even just once - I would advise strongly against it, unless you have an experienced and responsible breeder willing to act as a co-breeder. There are soooooo many factors that have to be taken into account, steps that have to be taken ahead of time, and complications that can arise and easily turn into disasters if you don't know what to do.

Honestly I’m 61 home all the time, was a nurse for 30 years and have a mobile vet at the ready…In the 41 years we have been married have had afghan hounds, dachshunds, Dalmatian, Coton de Tulears and now Charlotte…my Cavalier…oh I also have 2 horses and 2 cats…we live on a 6.5 acre farm in Delaware and I never do anything without a deep dive into all information! I’m sure if I ask my vet she would say no just get another! Having said that what are your thoughts on proper age to spay our girl? I really appreciate the information you have provided…and you talked me out of it! thank you so much😊kim
Spaying should be done about 3 months after the girl's first season - at the earliest. The hormones they produce when they begin to mature are not just sex hormones, they are also growth hormones. Since the growth plates close between 9 and 14 months of age, keeping her whole until that time will minimize the chance of orthopedic problems later in life.
What I like most about Jamba is that he is so darn cute!
