I suspect this comment will be far from ever reaching you, but this performance is absolutely singular. I have heard no other playings of the piece that bring to me such a full and serious emotion as this. It is overwhelming. I hear, realized wholly within the sounding of these notes, a most desperate and earnest prayer of love; as a child beseeching the return of a lost pet.
I woke up at 4 am with my mind restless and fixated on the horrible situation in Ukraine. This piece is both somber and hopeful at the same time. Your rendition offered some comfort. Thanks for that…

A beautiful performance of this dark and somber choral prelude by Bach. Your simple registrations are perfect for the Lenten season , always moving , pleading "Have mercy on me". Some interesting harmonies along the way, nice. Thanks for the interesting views of the church.. The red candles were stunning ! Paul, you have produced a nice video to go along with your intense feeling on the organ. Great work !

Beautiful Paul! I like your simple and clean registration! Matches Psalm 51 quite well. I also appreciate it that you chose the "urfassung", i.e. without pedals and c.f. on another manual. This is what Bach intended, I think.

The score is the Urfassung. The way to play it is as often with baroque music just a guess. Although I like to hear this piece manualiter, as Paul does it beautifully, a version a 2 clav. e ped. could also be authentic. I recently tried it with the c.f. on the pedal with a 4' reed, also very nice.
@@RalphLooij the Baerenreiter score mentions "manualiter". The editor can only say so if that is also the case in the autograph.
@@matthijsvdw That's not entirely true. Editors often add texts like 'manualiter' to a piece. Especially when it is notated on two staves, which suggests to play it manualiter. The same counts for the Neumeister Collection, for example. Often played as manualiter pieces, while a diversity in playing manners is possible, as they often did in that time.

Ein wunderbares Stück. Du spielst es sehr interessant, anders als andere, die ich kenne. Unter den vielen Aufnahmen hier auf TH-cam sicher eine der besten.

Hallo Paul, sehr schön interpretiert, wunderbares Tempo. Außergewöhnlich auf einem Manual. Die meisten spielen das etwas anders, so klingt es aber mega, noch viel "athmosphärischer". Ist das die "Partitura non alto ?" oder etwas eigenes ? Und ein wirklich starkes Video mit passender Stimmung, großes Lob. Echt super! Grüße aus Neusäß (Augsburg)

You don't need full organ, sometimes less is more.
Diese schlichte Fassung mit einem einzigen 8', sowie nur auf einem Manual gespielt find' ich auch recht ansprechend! Ich bevorzuge aber eher die romantische Interpretation... ;)
