Arven and Mabostiff hit a lot harder for me since my dog (the family's technically) passed away less than a week ago, and not long after that was when I started seeing the TH-camrs let's plays reaching that point in the game. It's hard not to tear up when seeing Arven's concern over Mabostiff and the dedication towards helping it recover. Always cherish your pets and take good care of them. And always let them know you love them, either through words they may or may not understand, or through actions.
We had a Boxer/Lab mix that we all adored, as she had one of the sweetest and most passive personalities I've ever seen in a dog (and I've known a lot of dogs), and she was also incredibly sensitive and smart. When we had to have her put to sleep 5 years ago (due to Lymphoma), that day as soon as we got home, I would swear that I saw her out of the corner of my eye resting her head on the arm of the couch looking at me, as though she was saying "goodbye" to us herself. I can only hope that when my own time comes, she will be there waiting for me. So, yeah. Arven and Mabosstiff hit me pretty hard too. You can't really go wrong with the whole "Man's Best Friend" shtick.
It really sheds light on pokemon Healthcare, they can recover wounds of fainted pokemon. But injuries that put them near deaths door are a different story. Sheds light on how some pokemon can get scars even when taken to a pokemon center😔
The fact that Mabosstiff ended up this bad because Arven was simply trying to reach to his absent parents, it's heartbreaking to think how guilty, desperate and lonely he must felt :(
@@demi-fiendoftime3825 an old author tip i once heard went along the lines of "If you really love a character, make them suffer" by that logic Arven must've been the favorite character
As someone with a dog who is part of the base for Maschiff and Mabosstiff .... it really touch me a lot ... mostly because our dog suffer from blindness this year and we can't get him surgery because there is not specialist for waterfalls in my country.
This hit ESPECIALLY hard for me, just lost my dog this year, I've had him for practically my whole life. Game really pulled on my heart strings out of left field
I turned 31 last week, and while I loved the first two gens, the ending of this one is the first that has got me on a real emotional level. Don't want to spoil it for anyone else, so I'll just say that it seems like, while some stuff is still cheesy, they seemed to actually put their heart into the story and characters in this one. I'm left wondering, whether it wasn't really until now they knew to try and get people to relate pokemon to their real life pets, or if that's just something I've grown to understand on a deeper level as I got older. I suppose it makes some sense, The Last Guardian being the first game to get me to cry in general. Maybe I've just become a big softie, who can say. Having three other siblings, growing up we all always wanted our own stuff, especially pets. However, with cats it got to be a bit much, so it was really just my sisters and my brother later on that got their own, while I sorta sat it out. One of them, the most friendly, unassuming and gentle cat ever, my sister had named Charlie, after the brit druggie on Lost (good character but not my favorite). I'm sure she loved him just as much, but being a sort of mellow fellow myself a lot of the time it always felt like he chose to spend his time around me. Having few friends, I'd always appreciated that about him. Unfortunately, much later on I'm working a part time "flex" job (39 hours and no benefits) and barely noticed he did not come around as much. At the time I figured it's because we'd moved, cats always seem to take time to get used to new places. It wasn't until it was a bit too late my mother and I realized he was pretty much on his way. And with him being my sister's cat, I sort of let her grieve the most, but I always regret not letting myself do the same before he passed away. That was around this same time of year, 2019, still have his picture as my phone screen saver, can't really bring myself to change it now...many would say it's just an animal but it's my belief they are generally more innocent and thus more previous than many humans are. Maybe a bit naive but I've had no reason to change my mind for many years now. Anyway, though, things like that, without going into too much here, can't help but feel like I must have been not too far from the people who were supposed to take care of Arven here, but you never really think of these things until they happen.
Had no idea about her old cat. I feel really bad... not being able to say goodbye is one of the worst feelings I know. At least she has Smoothie and Chonkers now, Kiara loves them with all her heart.
Lol same 🤣 but to defeat titans, your pokemon needs to be high level, and high level pokemon wont obey you if you dont have gym badge, so ill get gym badge to level up and finish arven story first lol
@@pj_mist only pokemon caught beyond your badge limits won't obey. Ex. If your limit is 30, any pokemon CAUGHT at 30 or below will listen even when they grow beyond 30.
After this part I was 100% on the titan hunt! Lost my dogs 1 even after paying for surgery and driving half a state to get it done. This hit hard because how he talks of mastiff reminded me of that dog, it was there for me and no matter how bad things were would just be there and let me cry, even when dad died it just walked up and put its head on my knees and didnt move for hours. So I understand when he said most important in his life.
Ive watched on some clips of hamster owner, someone asked them why she still keeps a hamster that just has a short life span and just own a cat or dog or smth, she answered, yes theyre short lived, for us humans they come and go, but for them, we are their whole life. Props to all animal owners who treat them as family.
Four years ago, my cat was run over by a car and I wasn't the same after that. Getting to this part when I played Violet hit me in the feels. As did the post game for a different reason.
I lost my dog... Geez, I think it's been 12 years now... I bought him at the Flea Market, when he was probably just past the weaning age. He was a Rottweiler mix, which could have been bad, because we lived out in the country, and raised chickens, and ducks, and geese. But while he was still a puppy, we taught him not to bite the birds, and clearly whatever the mix was, it was clearly a farm dog, because he quickly adapted to not bothering with them, unless they fought each other, in which case he'd break it up with a tackle, it was so funny the first time we saw it. He was always keeping the birds in check, and he even had a hobby of climbing anything he could, so he could survey better because he was short. He was the goodest boy, and I miss him so much...
Ngl. I finished Xenoblade 3 (which made me cry like a bitch and left a void after finishing the game) thinking that “Hey! Pokémon is out ! Imma feel better playing without feeling much emotions since it’s Pokémon!” Boy was I wrong goddamn.
Coming from Sword/Shield where the story was as basic as the first generation (A.K.A "do the gym challenge + league, the end), it is reassuring to see that they CAN make interesting stories. [Spoiler Warning for most of the story !] .. ... .... ..... ...... The 3 storylines (+ post game) show so much more narrative quality than usual for pokemon games .... For the first time I am confortable calling Pokemon a story-driven game. - The Gym path (with Nemona) : THis is the typical gym challenge, but Nemona is a new kind of rival. She ALREADY beat the league. Before you came into Paldea, she is basiacally the top trainer of the region ... And for the battle junky she is portrayed as, it must be hella frustrating to not have anyone you could fight without pulling punches. Her reaction when she looe the last fight (post Elite-4) against you really tell you this : you beating her is not sad, nor a setback for her. She finally has someone to battle that CAN beat her. Finally, a challenge. Finally, a *rival*. - Operation Stardust : This storyline started as the most boring one for me (I was like "meh .... again, a team of pseudo-villains that are of no consequences") .... But along the way, we learn the truth .... and it become both a good criticism of how bullying in school is a delicate matter, and also the good old Nietzch's quote "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster"... Cassiopeia wanting to "force" the disbanding of Team Star show that she understood that it basically became the things they wanted to fight against, and it would lead to her friends being expelled. Also, Good writing for the Principal, who went above and beyond to uncover the actual truth of the situation himself and not though second hand information. Wish more people would do that IRL. - Arven Storyline : the storyline that change from "collect weed for weird guy" to "MUST SAVE DOGGO" really fucking quick. There was no need to go for anything deeper, but the bits and pieces of Arven's Backstory tease the Post-Game in a really neat fashion. - the Postgame (Area Zero) : We get more of Arven's Backstory (that explain his abrasiveness in the first encounter : You just waltz in with the very pokemon that basically ruined his childhood and potentially caused his only friend, back then, to suffer a crippling injury). The banter between the 3 party members as you progress in Area Zero is TOP NOTCH. I never expected this in a pokemon game, but please gimme more of that GameFreak. My only beef with the game is the fucking Champion, Geeta, is the worst champion ever .... FFS USE YOUR GLIMMORA (a pokemon MADE to setup entry-hazard due to it's talent) FIRST, NOT LAST !!!!.
I would argue there are worse champions, but I do wish she got more personality or screentime. She definitely should have had a different signature Pokemon though.
Aside from the story itself being emotional, it also has distressing implications. We now know for a fact that there are injuries that Pokemon can sustain that can't be healed by Pokemon centers or potions. Just how many Pokemon battles have ended with one of the combatants permanently injured or nearly dead?
The anime has had this for years, with the occasional "oh this poor Pokemon, our machines can't heal it. But there's a legendary cure all herb in the nearby canyon known as Dead Man's Gulch that could possibly heal it, but be warned, it's guarded by the nastiest Marril you've ever seen." so finally canon to the games lol
@@davidsantiago7808 In the games at least, I'm pretty sure that's a fan theory. But it does make sense For anyone who may not know, there is a certain Pokémon that Blue has in his party at the beginning of the game that isn't there anymore when you fight him in Lavender Town, after finding him in the Pokémon cemetery. So it would make perfect sense if that Pokémon had died and he was mourning it at the cemetery

This scene is the moment in the story that made me decide to take me and my underleveled team to the very end of the titan questline ASAP no matter what. I can understand the feeling of being able to get your dog back.
Arven story really got me hard, I had to put down one of my dogs around a year and a half ago because they just were struggling to walk and their back legs gave out. So seeing this dog hurt and a guy doing anything he could to help it just reminded me of it and made me cry a ton.
Glad I’m not the only one that was overcome with emotion during this bit. My doggo is fixing to turn 18 this month. She has been through so much with me, and I’m thankful to have her by my side + healthy still. But I do fear the day her health starts to decline and I’m forced to say goodbye. She means the absolute world to me, and like Arven I’d do anything and everything for her. 😭
I was taking on all the challenges but as soon as I learned about Arven's Mabostiff everything else became unimportant to me. The doggo had to be saved. I was so obsessed I did it In half an hour.
Me before the reveal: why am i even helping this prick Me adter the reveal: i will do everything in my might to make that dog walk again and if its the last thing ill do ! 🔥_🔥
I’ve been thinking about it after clearing Area Zero but maybe the reason potions and and the PC didn’t work is because no one knows how to treat wounds inflicted by paradox pokemon. We don’t even know which Paradox pokemon attacked Mabosstiff in the first place.
I legit thought because i saw what Houndstone looks like that there was going to be a much sadder story, but thank goodness it was more happy and wholesome. Say what you want about the frames and etc, this generation pokemon game isn't half bad. Also as an animal lover I too relate to not wanting to lose a pet
For everyone who was like "yeah no, they're not gonna kill the dog," Houndstone's existence and lore must have felt like the developers directly telling those players _"Wanna bet?"_
Tbf having mabostiff come back as houndstone would have been really cool and happy unless you mean it in a symbolic way and not mabostiff actually turning into houndstone
she's gonna straight up shut off the game when it forces you to fight it later. I thought it was straight up cruel that they require you to do that after that story.
@@yushouji8952 still it's a plot dealing with a terminally ill pet, something many people have real trauma from, Kiara talks about hers in this video. Forcing people to fight and knock out his dog he just saved from death is super fucked up.
@@swizzler To be fair, your character has a reaction like "You're battling with Mabosstiff?!" where it's them pretty much going *"What the Hell, Arven?! We went through all of that effort to save him, and now you want to throw him straight into a battle without even giving him a chance to really rest first?"* So our character does sort of point out that exact thing. Though I suspect that as far as the plot goes, both our character and Arven were being more cautious about the battle than the gameplay itself can actually show.
I relate to Arven in such a way that his story hits close tp home for me. (I'm only halfway through the game right now, and I've only found 3 of the 4 Herba Mysticas.) I may be more of a cat person, but I've only had 1 pet cat that was mine and not just the family's cat. I got him when I was about 10 (I'm 24 at the time of writing this), and he's a siamese cat we had to rename Bandit (His 1st name was Smokey since he was a rescue from a house fire, but we already had a cat with that name). Ironically enough, I think I got him shortly before I got into Pokemon. But I love him so much, and recently, I've been missing him and worrying about him because I had to leave him back with my family when I left to get a job out of town elsewhere, and moved in with some family nearby where my job is. I know he's in a house that loves him and that he loves too, but being apart from him just makes me worried that he thinks I may have left him behind, or I've disappeared, or something like that. It's like I'm only homesick because I miss my cat, and I don't want something to happen to him if I can't be there with him. That's how much my cat means to me. And to see Arven, and his dedication to help his Mabosstif, just reminds me of my own pet that I have a close connection with, and would do anything to help him if he needed it. That's what made me know that I need to help him help his dear Mabosstif.
@@BJGvideos Lol, I honestly forgot I made this comment tbh. But, to answer the question, I unfortunately haven't played the game since making this comment, but I know most of Arven's story, minus a few crucial parts of the story/plot, and it still makes me love and cherish my own pet cat. I also have seen my cat a couple times and he's still alive and well, he's starting to show some age but he's still up and about and just as talkitive and affectionate whenever I visit my family
Does anyone know which stream Calli came to this scene? I don’t watch the streams themselves since I’m playing the game but I do want to see how they react to scenes I’ve already gotten through.
Arven: Please help me find more Herba Mystica! Player: *has tons of herba mystica in bag for shiny hunting* Uh... Sure! In all honesty, I deadass thought Arven's Mabostiff is dying of old age and is gonna turn into a Houndstone.
I got to this point of the story just yesterday night, and I'm preparing my heart for 2 outcome.. 1. Considering how the pokemon become titan version after consuming this herbs, I'm expecting the dog would also becomes a titan and somehow be a last boss for Arven's story arc.. 2. Mabostiff is so injured, to the point nothing in the current medical treatments could heal him. So, I'm also expecting Mabostiff would "overflowed" by all the herb powers, and eventually.. die.. I watched too much dark anime, indeed.. need more K-On or gochiusa in my life...
I only cared about Arven and his storyline throughout the whole game. I was getting that dog back on his feet no matter what it took, fuck the other storylines.
This story-line reduced me to tears. Throughout my life I think I've had and lost 12 dogs, and every single one meant the world to me and completely destroyed me when they passed. But the one we lost last year didn't have to happen the way it did. No matter how much my brothers, my father, and I pleaded with my mother, she wouldn't take her to the vet and insisted that she knew what she knew what she was doing and that she didn't want to be given bad news. She was old and having weakness in her back legs and would have trouble walking, and occasionally fall down. My mother decided to give her hip/joint medication instead of having it checked out. Then she developed increasingly ragged breathing that eventually got so bad that she couldn't eat and my father finally demanded she be taken, barring an undisclosed consequence to my mother. It was not her legs, it was partial paralysis of her spine, that was now spreading to her throat and larynx. If it had been caught earlier, there was a surgery to help treat it, but because my mother refused for nearly 2 years of escalating problems, she suffered to the end. She could have been helped, and seeing this story in the game brought it all back and it immediately became my priority. I'm sorry Kadi

I hope you get better. I've lost 6 cats, not a dog well either way, but I hope you can feel better when you remember him/her.
It really sheds light on pokemon Healthcare, they can recover wounds of fainted pokemon. But injuries that put them near deaths door are a different story. Sheds light on how some pokemon can get scars even when taken to a pokemon center😔
For the most part, Pokemon battling is a friendly sport. Arven's Mabosstiff was attacked by a Pokemon that was NOT playing around!
@@blackheartzerotheundergrou3225 I'd have to guess that it continued to attack even after Mabosstiff had fainted or something
I love Kiara. She can call us her little sh*ts or throw us in the usual room for being lewd, yet she has such a big heart 🧡.
Poor Arven may have lost both his parents but at least his doggo gets better
As sad as it is to consider, that Mabosstiff was a far better guardian than either of Arven's parents ever were!
The fact that Mabosstiff ended up this bad because Arven was simply trying to reach to his absent parents, it's heartbreaking to think how guilty, desperate and lonely he must felt :(
And then later on the reveals get sadder.
These games just hate poor Arven
@@demi-fiendoftime3825 an old author tip i once heard went along the lines of "If you really love a character, make them suffer"
by that logic Arven must've been the favorite character
Everything just sucks for this man
@@shimmyking4 Damn you, Varric
@@shimmyking4 I dunno man, Penny's dad calls her Pen-Pen. That's a lot of suffering, there.
I'm watching this with my 12 year old cat and now I'm hugging her tightly. I love her with all my heart. I hope she still has more time on this earth.
As someone with a dog who is part of the base for Maschiff and Mabosstiff .... it really touch me a lot ... mostly because our dog suffer from blindness this year and we can't get him surgery because there is not specialist for waterfalls in my country.
This cutscene is exactly why I consider finding a Maschiff. I wanted to bring a Mabosstiff of my own through Arven's journey.
Fr bruh me too, Plus Mabostiff design is Cool as hell
Arven is the best boi. Kiara is so wholesome, especially when she's invested in the story like this
This hit ESPECIALLY hard for me, just lost my dog this year, I've had him for practically my whole life.
He has the same energy of "Florida man kidnaps scientist to make his dog immortal"
I didn't know about that old cat before! Kiara has such a warm heart.
Had no idea about her old cat. I feel really bad... not being able to say goodbye is one of the worst feelings I know. At least she has Smoothie and Chonkers now, Kiara loves them with all her heart.
I really liked the characters and story in this game. I went from disliking arven to swearing I’d help him no matter what lol
_DISREGARD STALKER GIRL, _*_SAVE THE PUPPY!!_*
I had a Mabosstiff before this cutscene and it just... felt different, that I ended up overleveling where my pokemon wouldn't listen
As did the post game for a different reason.
after the back story this did become my main quest objective! it didn’t hurt that the mobility upgrades were practically essential as well.
Everyone mad at our boy at the start im like. Lord forgive them for they do not know😔
When you play the GoW Ragnarok intro and need light-hearted fun so you play Pokemon, then this reveal happens.
Man, the first minutes with Fenrir really hit me hard in GoW. Then I played Pokemon and BOOM, another cute dog dying
but this time around, there’s something you can do.
Ngl. I finished Xenoblade 3 (which made me cry like a bitch and left a void after finishing the game) thinking that “Hey! Pokémon is out ! Imma feel better playing without feeling much emotions since it’s Pokémon!”
Boy was I wrong goddamn.
under all the technical issues, there is a game with some pretty heavy writing. This is POKEMON we are talking about.
God bless this man helping this best doggo like seriously this is like the best thing the pokemon company made sides pmd and arceus
Coming from Sword/Shield where the story was as basic as the first generation (A.K.A "do the gym challenge + league, the end), it is reassuring to see that they CAN make interesting stories.
[Spoiler Warning for most of the story !]
..
...
....
.....
One of the interesting things is that it isn't the admins of team who became bullies, but rather the grunts and that's treated just as bad
I would argue there are worse champions, but I do wish she got more personality or screentime. She definitely should have had a different signature Pokemon though.
Forgot worst champion, this was the worst Elite 4 in awhile. At least give them each their own themed room. Sun and Moons rooms were fricken awesome.
But there's a legendary cure all herb in the nearby canyon known as Dead Man's Gulch that could possibly heal it, but be warned, it's guarded by the nastiest Marril you've ever seen."
so finally canon to the games lol
Lavender town bro, it's always been canon. Didn't one of Blue's pokemon die because of team rocket?
@@GameGodZEROThe most recent one in memory was that Stoutland in the Sun/Moon anime. They didn’t sugarcoat that it was old and dying.
@@davidsantiago7808 In the games at least, I'm pretty sure that's a fan theory. But it does make sense
For anyone who may not know, there is a certain Pokémon that Blue has in his party at the beginning of the game that isn't there anymore when you fight him in Lavender Town, after finding him in the Pokémon cemetery. So it would make perfect sense if that Pokémon had died and he was mourning it at the cemetery
@@ricardorunos9782 also in the sun and moon anime ash is taken back in time by celebi. An that time we see an old totem Trevenant. When ash comes back, we see the Trevenant’s corpse covered in moss
DROP EVERYONE AND EVERYTHING ELSE. THE PUPPY MUST LIVE.
In a world where fire balls, finger guns, time shattering with godly might, AND self destructing, whatever injuries Arven's Mabosstiff gotten are way worse.
I'm not going to lie, I was hoping to hear the Emotion theme from gen 5 for these moments with Mabosstiff...
The Gen 9 emotional theme is surprisingly great too, most of the music is subtle but amazing when you listen to it in this Gen.
@@edenromanov true honestly
In my head the Stoutland theme started playing
Yeah, people may say whatever about the new Pokemon game but. They really got us with the feels with the Arven storyline.
Sees the Mabostiff scene:
*“Fuck all the other things!”*
The only correct response
Arven has truly had one of the best if not the best story arc in Pokémon video game history.
I need to see her reaction to when he gets better
YES
This scene is the moment in the story that made me decide to take me and my underleveled team to the very end of the titan questline ASAP no matter what. I can understand the feeling of being able to get your dog back.
Arven story really got me hard, I had to put down one of my dogs around a year and a half ago because they just were struggling to walk and their back legs gave out. So seeing this dog hurt and a guy doing anything he could to help it just reminded me of it and made me cry a ton.
Arven probably one of the Pokémon characters with the saddest backstories to date
When playing I didn't care about most of the story until this and after just like Kiara said fuck the other stuff doggo needs help
anyone who says they didn't cry during Arven's story is lying
Where I cried was the ending when he cried out for his father even though he knew the man in front of him really wasn't who he needed
I reacted the exact same way when I saw that scene, the final one I was a mess
I was taking on all the challenges but as soon as I learned about Arven's Mabostiff everything else became unimportant to me. The doggo had to be saved. I was so obsessed I did it In half an hour.
I've been waiting for their reactions (all the girls) to this moment.
Man, it's really nice to finally have a good story in a Pokemon game again
The Herba story is my favorite, we must save the doggo!
Arven took all Ls in the story of the games hope something good comes for him in the dlc
1:55 Oh, so that's how the great crater of Paldea was formed.
Me before the reveal: why am i even helping this prick
Me adter the reveal: i will do everything in my might to make that dog walk again and if its the last thing ill do ! 🔥_🔥
I’ve been thinking about it after clearing Area Zero but maybe the reason potions and and the PC didn’t work is because no one knows how to treat wounds inflicted by paradox pokemon. We don’t even know which Paradox pokemon attacked Mabosstiff in the first place.
I was hoping the DLC would answer that but nope
"My kokoro is brokoro"
Now, that's a quote xD
Yeah, Team Star is an issue and I’m always up for challenging Gym Leaders.
But doggo is hurt, so Titan Fall it is then.
I'll be mad if the don't put arven's story into the anime for Scarlett and violet
This scene had me tearing up. I had to bury my cat last year and I was a wreck
This part always hits me so damn hard. 🥺
Can't wait for her to complete his story
Wait for the ending..
As a dog lover, this I fully invested my self in this story
she's gonna straight up shut off the game when it forces you to fight it later. I thought it was straight up cruel that they require you to do that after that story.
Tbf they did say that Mabostiff loves to fight, he even starts with Mab on Area Zero doubles
Bruh... Its a pokemon battle... Its... not that deep. He is still alive after that... all good and well
@@xDistructer irl a Pokémon battle is like cockfighting. Since this is relatable to a lot of ppl, it can be a bit too much for some

“My mom prioritized these random cats over the family cat and sent her away to a place with a BIG garden”…….. I hate to break this to you Chief…
This is some serious gourmet shit
Arven best boy
I relate to Arven in such a way that his story hits close tp home for me. (I'm only halfway through the game right now, and I've only found 3 of the 4 Herba Mysticas.)
I may be more of a cat person, but I've only had 1 pet cat that was mine and not just the family's cat.
What did you think of the rest of the game and have you gotten to see your cat since?
@@BJGvideos Lol, I honestly forgot I made this comment tbh.
But, to answer the question, I unfortunately haven't played the game since making this comment, but I know most of Arven's story, minus a few crucial parts of the story/plot, and it still makes me love and cherish my own pet cat. I also have seen my cat a couple times and he's still alive and well, he's starting to show some age but he's still up and about and just as talkitive and affectionate whenever I visit my family
everyone thought arven was into some shady shit world ending plot, but no he just trying to make his best friend better.
me before this story *Arven you are crazy*
me after this story *Arven now you are my best friend*
I laughed so hard at the gluten theory
Does anyone know which stream Calli came to this scene? I don’t watch the streams themselves since I’m playing the game but I do want to see how they react to scenes I’ve already gotten through.
Arven: Please help me find more Herba Mystica!
Player: *has tons of herba mystica in bag for shiny hunting* Uh... Sure!
In all honesty, I deadass thought Arven's Mabostiff is dying of old age and is gonna turn into a Houndstone.
I wish herbs could’ve cured my chinchilla.
So what did you think of the actual ending then?
I can only imagine Fauna reacting to this lol
Wtf was that story about the family cat? What kind of psycho would do that?
Please update us when Kiawa reaches the final part-
