It'd be great if they just made Larry randomly show up in different situations. Like he has several side gigs besides Gym Leader and Elite Four Member.
I like to imagine that Larry slowly takes on more jobs. Like, he just did data entry or something for the League at first, but then one of the gym leaders quit, so Geeta assigned him to take over that gym. Then one of the Elite 4 members retired, so Geeta told him to fill in for that too... but also, after the story of the game ends, more and more gym leaders quit their side hustle and focus on their primary jobs, so Larry has to fill in for _all_ of them (Geeta says it's just temporary, but we know better).
Korone: what do you do then? Larry: I'm a office worker Korone: exactly my type Larry: excuse me i'm late for work Korone: eh didn't you finish already Larry: I'm going to my 2nd job now Korone: marry me
I think the best part about Larry is that Gym Leader and Member of E4 aren't even his job. It's more like Geeta is understaffed and has one of the adults who work at the Pokemon League fill in. He just wants to get his work done, eat at his favorite restaurant and go home.

One of the best characters in Pokemon period, I'd venture to say; though I'm surprised it took them this long to introduce a "depressed salaryman" gym leader
Hypothesis: Larry is beloved by people because most people growing up with the early Pokemon generations are now at an age where they live or should live the corporate live, and possibly the last generation to actually appreciate classic office work, making Larry alot more identifyable than the actual protagonist.
Larry is the hardest working man in all of Paldea. Man holds down two jobs minimum and is exceptional at them both. Easily my favorite character in the game.
There's models for all of the Elite 4 on the rooftop, I wonder if all 4 of them were planned to watch you battle against Geeta and they cut it out later.
Larry is extraordinary specifically because he is so ordinary. The real world can be like this a lot too. So many people, especially younger people, try so hard to be edgey or cool or whatever, and they do it like sheep because they all like the same things and do the same things and it just makes all those sorts of people feel like the same person. And when you do get an original guy, its usually because they're trying very hard to be random or original. Finding a dude that is just laid back, not actively trying to impress or stand out, and acts professionally instead of like a child seeking attention, is very attractive.
The thing I like about Larry is his last pokemon, Staraptor, is a hint to him using flying pokemon next time you see him. Normally you wouldn't think you had to fight a gym leader again, but as soon as you see him, you think back to the pokemon he used in his gym. Staraptor being flying even though it's terra type would convert it to normal like all other gyms to their type.
His TM move being Facade is also another hint that this wasn't his true final appearance. Though I think what would have been better to throw you off completely is to start with Staraptor in the E4 fight and not mention the type change until it faints just to add another layer of confusion for the player
@@greyscaleadaven That word play doesn't apply in the Japanese. The Japanese name for facade, karagenki, means something more like "pretending to be ok [when you're actually sick, injured, depressed, etc]." That's why Larry says it's a specialty of working adults, and that's why Korone says "that's so sad"
Larry is the real mean of representation. Just an ordinary person trying to make money for living. He is truly out of the curve for gym leaders, and yet here is him.
Why is it that I could totally imagine Larry speaking in the same monotone voice and stilted enunciation as the Form Baton tutorial guy ("Point the Form Baton forward. Larry may not be very vocal about Korone's win against the Elite Four, but showing up for her match against Geeta makes up for it. As you can see, Larry is a man of action rather than words. Top tier trainer right there.
Facade is totally the best move to represent Larry or working adults in general... It's a freaking attack that can do more damage while having a status effect in comparison to those IRL workers who can work under pressure, may be indoors or outdoors, day or night some even go to work during holidays XD What a cool reference..
Korone interacts with such a intensity and become so emotionally connected to the game characters, and you showed it in the finest way. Larry is now part of her life, like us Koronesukis, and this clip, part of her lore.
I'm pretty sure what Korone meant when she said "It's Pikachu!" was that with the balloons on the Flamigo it was a lot like the old Flying Pikachu Pokemon card, which was also an event Pokemon right after the game's release (A Pikachu with a Flying Tera Type)

he's just so accurate to the office worker experience that people find it hilarious in a relatable way, or a sort of sympathetic relatable way.
4:56 the mashing button sound to not let Wingull evolving is hilarious.
4:25 I think Korone was referring about the Flying Pikachu that uses Balloons
the way she describes tropius as "flammable" kills me lmao
Understandable that she loves Larry, he's amazing. That dead inside and average af combo is brilliant.
Larry has that exaggerated swagger of a tired adult
Korone's love for Larry was so strong that it granted him a soul and broke the game's code so he could witness her biggest battle😢❤
Love her voice over work of characters especially Hassel😂 GameFreak please hire Korone for the next game for all the dialogues 🙏
His tie also has clouds on it. It is pretty suttle but it is another teaser for his typing.
Feels like Gym Leaders are like teachers irl, underpaid and are the keys to young trainers success in becoming Pokemon Masters. Poor Aoki.
I did not expect the Hassel voiced by Korone.
Unexpected and it makes me burst out laughing 🤣
Larry is the real mean of representation. Just an ordinary person trying to make money for living. He is truly out of the curve for gym leaders, and yet here is him.
Why is it that I could totally imagine Larry speaking in the same monotone voice and stilted enunciation as the Form Baton tutorial guy ("Point the Form Baton forward. With the end lightly touching your nose. Just as the mighty elephant uses its trunk, to gorge on peanuts. So too... will your new nose... sustain you.") from _WarioWare: Smooth Moves?_
I saw 'simp' and 'Larry' on the title and my first thought was 'Korone likes leisure suit Larry???".
When she starts talking about how all the gym leaders have side jobs I was cracking up, like times are hard and pokemon just doesn't pay like it used to lmao
Have you seen the prices for things in ₱? Their economy is fucked worse than ours.
@@DistractedGlobeGuy it's closer to yen, just remove two zeroes at the end and you'll get something closer to the price in dollars
I thought Iono was my favorite for this game, then I met Larry. Larry is my absolutely favorite ever.
Larry's other type specialty is actually teased in his design! He wears a sky blue tie with cloud outlines!
How perfect it is that Korone likes him so much and he shows up for that battle!!! xD
Imagine if instead of the other elite four members we just fought Larry four times
Due to repeated budget cuts Geeta just hires Larry to fill every role. Of course, this comes with no rise in salary.
So... Korone is into business man huh? Time to become a successful bank manager then
He's not a businessman, he's a salary man. That's what the Japanese calls your average office worker.
It's the suit
I always got the impression she likes ‘cute’ types. Slightly submissive and maybe a bit shy, that she can take care of.
@@Philweasel oddly spesific
You're all wrong she likes old men that can sell her guns
My name is Larry. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Medali, where all the restaurants are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Paldean Pokemon League, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm moomoo milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
He's Just Standing There...MENACINGLY
Larry is waiting his turn to ask his boss for a raise, when you're done fighting.
Whenever Larry does something:
Korone: OH MY GOD, HE'S SO! GOD! DAMN! COOL!!!!
I saw somebody mention on Twitter how wild it was that they brought Pokémon so far up to date that we’ve got a VTuber gym leader for the salarymen and a salaryman gym leader for the VTubers. I didn’t get what they meant until now
Why do people call Iono a Vtuber?
@BJGvideos in universe, she's a streamer, but her actual character design is definitely inspired by VTubers
THE VOICE SHE DID FOR HASSEL HAD ME ROLLING😭😭😭😂
Other people: Fire is super-effective against tropius right?
Korone: It's flammable right?
?!?!?!?!?
Hassel: *cries*
Korone: Eww.
1:36 I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that! All of the gym leaders here are working double (or in Larry's case) triple duty. Being a gym leader in this region must pay like trash!
the paldean economy is in shambles
Larry : She said I'm cool so here I am as koronesuki
the same glitch happened to me, but with poppy. having her just standing there staring at me was a little frightening…
larry: unfortunately i was good enough to be an elite four so.. more work for me..
Larry is basically the best normal gym leader by default, because how he embodies a normal archetype.
she simped so hard he came to cheer her on lol
Larry is definitely one of the gym leaders of all time.
with all the crazy design, the normal design gonna stand out the most.
Ooooh now I just imagine korone going to her hometown and her being friends with all the salary men and hardwork all day folk.
I'm pretty sure what Korone meant when she said "It's Pikachu!" was that with the balloons on the Flamigo it was a lot like the old Flying Pikachu Pokemon card, which was also an event Pokemon right after the game's release (A Pikachu with a Flying Tera Type)
"Dundunsparce, Bite the dusto"
He's just standing there menacingly
That Larry thing happened to me too he was just chilling watching me fight Geeta
Larry does look cool, I can't blame her at all. He really resonates with me as well
korone's voice acting is so awesome she really knows how to sell a voice
lol I love Korone's social commentary on the lives of gym leaders and their financial struggles as they have to do a side job even as one of the elite four D:
Actually, Korone was referring to that Flying Pikachu card with the balloons way, WAY back in the old days. I don't expect anyone here to remember or know that.
Since most flying types are also normal type, it makes sense.
