I got to see Hobipalooza in person. He was not only the biggest act of the weekend, the festival said he was the highest ticket-selling artist in their 31 year history. The founder of the festival and the Mayor (the elected leader of the city) of Chicago both came out to introduce him and the reviews from the festival all said it could have been one of the best stages in the history of the festival. And as someone who attended, I don't doubt it. It was electric. j-hope is pretty well-known among ARMYs as being the strongest performer--it's ARMY canon that if you see BTS live, you leave with a j-hope bias. And he's on every short list for the whole k-industry for his performance skills too. He'd headlined Asia's biggest award show as a soloist too this same year. But the show he put on at Hobipalooza was just beyond greatness. Like I would put him up against anyone in the world with regard to performance. I think in all of Chapter 2 so far, it's the best performance bar none. And he went first. This was in July of 2022! His album had just dropped and he got up on stage and did that. For an hour and ten minutes. Iconic. I hope you get the chance to watch the full thing some day. Especially since you enjoy the rock stuff. The whole first half is a rockstar performance.
I was coming here to say the exact same thing. I was at this performance as well, and I can honestly say that it was in my favorite Top 3 or so performances to see live in my entire life. That's saying something, as I am 58 and have seen some of the world's performance greats: Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Journey, Styx, Mellencamp, Jimmy Buffett, Paul Simon, Elton John/Billy Joel, and many more. J-hope was just STUNNING, and there were a lot of non-ARMY ("locals") in the crowd that night who were also really impressed. ARMY was also amazing at hobipalooza. Jack in the Box had only just been released about 2 weeks before this performance - but ARMY did not come to play - we knew those lyrics and sang along to everything. We wanted j-hope (and by extension BTS) to know that we were still here for them, and would be until 2025 when they return as a group. I think we said that HANDS DOWN with how engaged we were.
I don't think j-hope is given enough credit for what he did with "Jack in the Box" and his hobipalooza performance, to be honest. As the person above said, he was FIRST to release a solo project. And he absolutely killed it in every way you can kill a music release and a live performance. He experimented and went outside his comfort zone, he was the first to do a performance alone (and nearly killed himself in the prep for it, too), and he didn't just do this first live performance for ARMY. He not only went to the most well-known music festival in the world - and was the first Asian to perform there - but he HEADLINED there. I mean, that took SO much courage to do! He just deserves ALL the credit for all of that.
One correction to what was said in the video, by the way. Lollapalooza no longer changes locations in the US every year. In its early days it was actually a traveling festival (intended as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction), but now it is permanently in Chicago. Also, just a fun fact: my younger brother went to the very first Lollapalooza, back in 1991 (he was 19). Seeing hobi in 2022 was my first Lolla ever - at the ripe old age of 56. 😅 I went with my daughter, who was 20 at the time, and two ARMY friends of mine who are in their 40s.
Also, of the six other BTS members, only Jimin came to Lolla - he was up in the back on a platform behind the stage, left side. You can see j-hope point at him and look for him a couple of times during the concert. J-hope credited Jimin with calming him down in the days before the concert. He was really stressed, and it made all the difference in the world for Jimin to come and support him. J-hope also had two other friends there with him (that we know of). Backstage at Lolla is also where j-hope met J. Cole in person for the first time, and both j-hope and Jimin went to see Tomorrow by Together - the BTS donsaengs also on the Big Hit Music label - at Lolla. And finally, Bang PD was there - he was in the VIP section.
I can't recommend enough watching the entire performance. We'll watch it with you.

My bias… JHOPE!!! So cool!!
I watched the behind the scenes for his lollapalooza concert and he was so worried. He lost so much weight because he didn't eat much being concerned with all the details for the show - he seemed to be involved in every decision. He relaxed a little when Jimin flew over to be with him for the last couple of days and seemed more able to chill. Love that support they give each other. Also he was the first of BTS to do a solo concert like this and was really worried that no one would come if it wasn't all of the group. He certainly didn't need to worry about that as Army turned up in the tens of thousands - I am not sure but read somewhere that it wasn't that long after the album came out in America so he was also really amazed that so many fans were able to sing along with the lyrics.
I thought he was withering away...he was scary thin....I don't know how he had the stamina to keep up, but I hope the audience's responses and reactions really helped.
Hobi uses a live band in his main stage record breaking solo debut concert at Chicago LOLLAPALOOZA 100,000 attended. the band were also brilliant. This concert is where J Hope met J Cole who agreed to a collab.
