Cool to see the wheel get built up and thats a cool trail system with some beautiful berms but man i feel sorry for you that theres no actual hills, no trees & no tech.. Once my PCL heals properly so i can go MTB again instead of just roadbiking lol, i will appreciate even more the 400m vertical decent of the loads of free trails & a chairlift access bikepark of 450m vert just 15 mins drive away.. Nice rim tho, Spank is great! I'm thinking of getting the same ones to upgrade mine, & ill get the Tannus Armour tubed insert for the rear, check it out, all the pinch-flat resistance of a cush, but next level puncture resistance & running a small tube at tubeless psi with none of the mess of tubeless fluid..
Don't feel too sorry for me. 20 miles to the west of that spot are the Colorado Rockies with plenty of downhill tech and trees to avoid. :) I'm currently not using any inserts and pretty happy with the setup. I run about 30 PSI when I'm doing dirt jumps and 25-26 PSI when I'm on trails. I've had 1 flat in 3 years. So far so good!
The rims come with a black tape that is really more of a rubbery band. I used a small pick or flat head screwdriver to get underneath it to peal it up. It's not held in place by adhesive and you can actually reinstall it if you want, but only if you use tubes, as it is not meant to be used as tubeless tape. It's only purpose is to protect an inner tube from the spoke ends.
@@KM-mi5ob Spank's US distributor is The Gravity Cartel and they've been pretty helpful with product support through email. Spank's online documentation is kinda limited, but you'll find a lot of info on wheel building in the FAQs on Spank's page. Overall I like the rims a lot and I'd but then again. The recommended Fratelli tape was tricky to install. It sticks to itself great, but not too well to the rim, so you have to pull it tight to get it to grip. I'll make a video in a few weeks when I build my front tire with more detail on the tape. Good luck on the build!
Nice build video and that trail looks FUN!
An honor to have as one is my first subscribers. 🙂

Awesome man!
Hey dude! I've got the same rims as you, did you need to rip up that tape covering the access holes that it comes with to lace the wheels?
