      They sound phenomenal as well. No compromises with the center being the same volume as the towers but with a change to the drive alignment to match the horizontal axis.

    Beard game looking tight. Great job mixing in stock footage and roll of yourself. I do love your home theater background you use for the majority of your video. Your production value was high to start but you have really begun raising the bar with the overlays while you are speaking. Excellent work as always.

    Those features you mentioned are to be added at a later date via a firmware upgrade because the HDMI control chip this and Denon Receiver use internally is made by Panasonic, and Panasonic updated the firmware for that chip after manufacture because the final spec's for those features were not finalized at the time the chip was fabricated.

    Yamaha make a great receiver, it was the 1st receiver I ever bought when I got into the home theatre hobby. We still use it occasionally in the rumpus room, 14 years on and it’s still never given me a single problem.

    Very nice review. My question is a clarification on bi-amping. Did I understand correctly that bi-amped fronts replaced/eliminated the atmos option? If so, what would you recommend to have both the bi-amped fronts and atmos? I’m assuming that’s 7.1 actually, I have 2 subs so 7.2 with bi-amped fronts ... thanks I’m advance

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Phil, yes it would eliminate the two rear surrounds regardless whether you pre-out or not. To get 7.2 you would need to choose a different receiver, OR you would need to bi-amp with an external amplifier that could send two full range signals to you r speaker from the one output from the receiver. You could also look to a 9.2 channel receiver which has a bi-amp option to allow the loss of two channels of amplification for the bi-amping.

    Hi mate, I have rxa3010 running some Harmonix in my home theatre, but for my lounge room I'm going to buy this amp and run a pair of Phoenix Mk 2s off it. I was worried that 100w for these speakers might not be enough power to get the full potential out of them but noticed here you're running some Neuphonix off an rxa2a :) Reckon 100w on a 6ohm speaker like the Phoenix be enough?

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      These speakers definitely benefit from a power amplifier if you want to get the best out of them. I was testing bi-amping from this so it took it down to a 5.x channel setup and that extra power did help it, but really, for those speakers, a nice power amp will make a world of difference. I have my Pioneer VSX-LX503 running my Krix Trio at the moment and I know they would like a nice bit of power from an amp, so I will get one eventually for them.

    • @paulgriffiths489
      @paulgriffiths489 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BuildMontage Thing is though I'm hooking it all up to a TV/Foxtel etc so need an AVR. If I'm just running 2 Channel and no other speakers perhaps I'll get a bit more power. My original thoughts was to have the Rxa2a, acoustix, graphix and sub so doing 3.1 but thought it would be better to biamp and transfer the money from the graphix into the Phoenix. Anyways I'll chat to my HiFi store and see what they recommend, thanks again mate

    No it's not the one to buy in 2021. Prefer Denon 6700 with 2 separate 7 channel amps. Don't need 8700 if you use separate amps. Outputs 13.2 pre-amp. 7.2 in modern age is to few channels. I mean come on, 9.2 is at least to go this days :P 7.1.2 is a must.

    Way too many features available " at a later date" with firmware updates. I've been down this road - firmware that doesn't upload properly, too many unknowns for the price. When Yamaha gets their shit together and provides a product that does what it says its capable of out of the box, maybe I'd consider it, but as it's packaged now, they can keep it.
    BTW - many RS-V6A units already returned.

Yamaha seems to put out a heck of lot of models which are all virtually the same albeit minor differences mostly cosmetic .. what a waste of time. I DO NOT like the idea that they sell based on future firmware updates .. c'mon! that is just a marketing gimmick and nothing has come out in months now .. when you pay for something you need to walk away with what you paid for .. not with future expectations .. clearly ridiculous and who falls for that!

I was under the impression the A2A was just a luxed up V6, but after what I heard nah, A2A is more related with its Aventage sisters knowing it has the larger capacitors of 10,000uf against the 8200uf of the V6. The only slight difference that I noticed from the A4A was it had punchier base than the A2A perhaps those extra ten watts is what I’m hearing since besides that the details and dynamics sounded the same. I told the chap at the shop these receivers almost sound the same. That’s when I realized for the +500 up charge for the A4A it’s not worth it. The A2A is more than enough.

      It depends on the channel count you're after. If you want more speakers active you need one with more channels available. The A2A is a great reciever I do agree.

      @@BuildMontage good point there. For my system I’ll just need basic 5.1.2 setting since my place is small so the A2A is more than enough for me. But for those needing 7.1.2 etc yea I agree the A6A etc would be the way to go.

    I really appreciated the explanation about the term “Bi-Amp”.
    For those of us that are new to receiver terms, words like “Bi-Amp” and “Pre-Out”, “Crossover” ext. are unfamiliar, so the explanation is appreciated.
    Also the comparison of the design to the “V” series models was helpful. I didn’t notice the difference until watching your video.
    Now I just have to decide 90,000 JPY RX-A1080 or 80,000 JPY RX-A2 ....
    I keep asking myself, “Just how valuable is 120Hz 4K and Dolby Height Virtualization compared to not having those features but gaining Surround AI?” I mean thanks to eARC I would likely be plugging a game console directly into the TV anyway. So that leaves Dolby Height Virtualization vs. Surround IA (and I think a better DAC and more available channels).
    I just can’t bring myself to paying over 100,000 JPY, so I’m not considering the A1080 replacement model whenever that arrives. (MusicCast surrounds are a must so that’s why I’m going with Yamaha.)
    So many choices... maybe I should just get a RX-V585 for 48000 JPY and save some cash. ^_^
    It’s so difficult to decide when you can’t hear them in person.

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is very difficult which is why I try to be thorough and show as many features as I can, and show scenarios you could use them. The only thing is if you want to hear it you do need to go in person.

    All eyes on Yamaha now. After German tech magazine discovered buggy HDMI 2.1 chips on Denon's new receivers, which produce black screen when connected to XboxX and several reliability issues with some graphics cards, it's going to be interesting to see whether Yamaha's AVRs can handle those source devices more reliably and without issues. Yamaha is in a precarious position, as we know that their receivers host the same or similar HDMI 2.1 chip from Panasonic Solutions. Below is planned firmware roll-out, broken down into several slots throughout the year. We are eagerly waiting for independent reviews and testing results. The schedule roughly gives an idea as to when to expect first testing reviews. All prospective buyers are advised to wait for those reliability tests and independent reviews to be published before purchasing AVRs, unless they do not need HDMI 2.1 features in their home entertainment.
    Yamaha firmware update schedule:
    4K120A - Firmware update April-June 2021 - HDMI 2.1 port speed evidence
    VRR(Variable Refresh Rate) - Firmware update March 2021
    ALLM(Auto Low Latency Mode) - Firmware update April 2021
    QMS(Quick Media Switching) - Firmware update April 2021
    HDR10+(Dynamic HDR) - Firmware update April 2021
    QFT(Quick Frame Transport) - Firmware update April 2021
    8K60B & 4K120B - Firmware update September 2021 - HDMI 2.1 port speed evidence
    Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization - Firmware update April

As for the looks, it is not a cheap feeling or looking from the front as I feared it would be and besides it's not really important to me as the receiver is basically hidden behind a smoked glass sliding door on my BDI entertainment cabinet

      the a2a is a better built unit than the rxv6, it has its differences one being some of the capacitors in the a2a are slightly bigger giving you a louder more dynamic sounds effects when watching movies etc. I personally would not see an issue in paying more for a better receiver especially when the cost isn't anything really expensive in the first place and what you are getting. the extra cost would be worthwhile paying. we are not talking about the a8a or a6a or a4a its a a2a and rxv6, well worth the price and it's something that can be enjoyed and should last a long time.
