It's your car, so do as you like, but I think a nice paint job would do that car nicely. You already have the patina rusted look on another project. Anyway, great video. That cliffhanger ending, though, LoL.
when putting an electric fuel pump in, run the oil pressure light to a negative trigger for a fuel pump relay. that way if the motor dies it wont keep pumping. or incase a fuel fire and you jump out without turning the key off it doesnt keep feeding
Zach, you never seek to amaze me at your talent and just to go for it and make things happen. Love what you have done so far and I know this VW Big will be awesome when done . Looking forward to the next video of it running lets hope!
Awesome job! Awesome! As a huge Bug, and T1 fan I love it! Maybe I would have first do the "dirty work" on the body before puting the new elecreical instalation but thats me.
Zack, I've been watching you for years now. But today I noticed that you are going gray. Welcome to the club. Chances are I am close to twice your age but I enjoy your content, be it automotive or nautical. Keep up the good work.
Dang, Zach! Nice work, as always!! Your videos are my favorite. It's a good sunday when I can, after working all day around the house myself, just sit and watch you work! Please share with us how's the new house/garage/shop going! Here's an idea, maybe for the next years: build an electric beetle yourself! That's a project that, actually, I may undertake myself within the next years. I would love to see you do it first, though! 😅
Thank you I always enjoy watching these builds. More than likely I will never do any of this work, but it is reassuring that we have people who want to learn, skilled technicians and skilled craftsmen still left in America.
What brand and model of wiring harness that you buy what was the cost and how long did it take you to install it any problems installing it waiting for your next video
That car needs a toasted marshmallow paint job. Creamy off-white at the front with brown speckles and toasted bits with the back apron area almost burnt black.
That engine turned out awesome! Maybe also paint the wheels white to match the engine? And a white interior matches also very well with the blue exterior (I have exactly the same combination on my Beetle (looks great :) 🏆
Nice! Is the starter stuck? If you need to replace it, I would go with the autostick starter. It has a lot more torque and you don't have to mess with the starter bushing.
Exterior paint color, my suggestion is a lite gray with the red rims, and the chrome hub caps, would look cool. Interior leather Ferrari red Tinted windows would really look good.
I just rebuilt a sandrail. Those parts aren’t cheap. What carburetor did you go with? My starter was old and did that, I took it apart and cleaned up all the rust and debris, starts right up now.
I worked in a VW bug shop for 2 years. You could absolutely rebuild that motor yourself. Even easier from the short block up, if you wanted a shop to do the short block. I would of replaced the push rod tubes since the tube gaskets that go into the heads got torched. I would of never thought of using bedliner under the hood. Genius!
I like this channel so much, I get genuinely happy to see another episode. For me the can do attitude, the way thing brighten up when you work with it is simple addictive....
@carlg7842 you ain't lying love watching him jiggle and laugh when he brings back to life any engine that falls in his hands. He's a beast and a please to watch.
Hey, with your Eastwood welder, are you using 120 or 240. I have been looking for a company to do my jeep tj frame work. Only people I have tried did not do a good job. I figured I would learn how to weld. Trying to figure out if it is necessary to use 240v for the frame work.
In the future if you want good grounds weld on a 1” long 1/4” bolt by the bolt head to the chassis. Tape it off then spray your bed liner or paint. You will have a found that will never fail and as you know 90% of electrical problems are usually grounds!
You want to know how points work, ask an old guy like me! On your VW engine you will have 4 flat spots on the distributor cam and 4 high points. Each time the points set lands on a high spot, there is a spark for that cylinder. Then when it leaves that high spot, the points close and move to the next high spot. You use a feeler gauge between the points and adjust them to spec. A tune-up back then usually consisted of points, condenser, and rotor. Easy, peazy.
I knew a guy who kept an extra rebuilt VW motor in his garage. If something happened to the motor, he could swap it out in an hour by himself. Dropped out the bottom. Then, over the next month, he would rebuild the old motor, bag it, and tuck it into the corner of his garage.
Well, if the engine is toast at least you already have a lot of nice external parts for the replacement, if this one can't be rebuilt. Would yellow go good with those red wheels?
Looks good and I'm looking forward to where it's going, but putting the brake fluid rez under the gas tank so you have to pull the tank to add fluid seems like an odd choice
I think it’s funny that you repainted a bug to look like a rusted battle car, and now you have a fire patina’d bug and want to make it one solid color lol. I think it would look sick if you treated and clear coated the burnt exterior areas, and then made the rest of the car immaculate. It would be sick to show off its near life ending history
I'm going to start off by saying I don't know beetles so this may just show my inexperience, but weren't those 3 rectangles on the top of the dash the defrost vents?
When you are going the mile, don't short the mile. Every time you say to yourself "I don't want to..." should come with a boot that says "yes, this you do want to".
You should reach out to MUSTIE1 a bother YTER whose specialty is these volkys and he has all kinds of parts. I've seen him revive motors for then that where just as in dire condition. This double fun.
I’m scratching my head over why you welded the gas door shut and put an older style gas tank where you have open the hood to put gas in it. Is that something people seek out?
A "MOTOR" is what runs an electronic component. An "ENGINE" runs on combustion and fuel. This VE doesn't move by a motor. I thought you were more smart than what you lead folks to believe.😉💯
Man at this point why even bother with this rusted pile of crap honestly. Why not just go get the body of a good condition one and just rebuild one from scratch nothing is repairable in this anyway lool.. and their cheap to start with,.
Been watching you for 4 plus years. Love the content but 24 min after two months of waiting! We need more 😂 lol
Left the rest to imagination
its a vw motor, give it a gas bottle, 12 volts and a pull cord wrapped around the crank it'll run on the table.
Got that bug starting to look good already. Glad to see you’re back to posting videos

That engine looks amazing. Good work.
Great job so far!!! I vote for Gulf blue :)
A lot of work in this episode! Looking good

Great work looking forward to the next one, your channel should have far more subscribers in my opinion.

If it was mine I would just clear coat it and leave it the way it is and show its life story.
Wow that was a lot for 25 minutes of video! Nice work sir. Hopefully she fires up for you soon.
That engine turned out awesome!

“Huh…. That’s not good”. 😂. You’ll figure it out, I’m sure. Good community here to help you. No better pride than figuring it out and driving along!
Are you going to paint/bedline the interior metal?
I love that you patched the old/unused holes!
Awe man. I can’t wait for more on this build! Love your work.
Do a compression test and check for metal in the oil. That will tell you a lot as far as weather you need to rebuild it or not.
LOL i keep asking for Burnt Orange and now you have a burnt bug that would be perfect for BURNT ORANGE. Don't you think? awesome vid.
Love the voice over! Makes it more fluid . Great episode keep up the good work !
That looks sick with the classic front end then the rat rod lookin rear
Great video as usual. That was an insane amount of work packed into a short video. Thanks again for posting! Keep the videos coming.
I think you should consider painting it back to the navy blue, I think it looks pretty sweet with the red steel wheels and white walls.
Exterior paint color, my suggestion is a lite gray with the red rims, and the chrome hub caps, would look cool. Interior leather Ferrari red Tinted windows would really look good.
Thanks for sharing and taking us along.
Cliffhanger!!!
Happy new year 🎉🎉🎉
It looks great already. Nice work.
i am with you since you open the channel ( one of the first subscribers) few years ago....always waiting for your content!! you are awsome!
I just rebuilt a sandrail. Those parts aren’t cheap. What carburetor did you go with? My starter was old and did that, I took it apart and cleaned up all the rust and debris, starts right up now.
Love it. Please dont keep us waiting so long.

You Tuber Mustie 1 is your go to guy when it comes down to VW's.
He seems to be the king of just about anything he works on lol
@carlg7842 you ain't lying love watching him jiggle and laugh when he brings back to life any engine that falls in his hands. He's a beast and a please to watch.
@Mustie1
o really like this rat rod look in the back and de perfect blue in the front are incredible together, i wish it could stay like that
Nice bud..you'll get it
I think that blue with a cream two tone top would look clean.

This is going to be good. Is the bed paint flammable?
Don’t want another inferno 😊
Those matte colors Toyota and VW are using would be pretty cool .
Another great video

Did you fill in the defroster opening on the dash? Everything looks good so far. Keep it up
I sure did. Don’t need it and prefer the look of a clean and smooth dash
Zach were do we get the wiring harness at??? Love it brother
Finally been waiting for this video
good video , thanks
Lots of engine kits for those, even a Subaru swap. Would be fun to see 400hp out of it.

why bury the break fluid res under the gas tank?
I was thinking the same thing.....
You are freaking amazing...
JC whitney used to be a mail order catalog with tons of vw parts. Idk if they still ariund.
When you are going the mile, don't short the mile. Every time you say to yourself "I don't want to..." should come with a boot that says "yes, this you do want to".
I’d like to see it white and green apple for the paint.
Thankyou
Here ya go
Compression test and check valve clearances
ruh roh Raggy!
I encourage you to grab the gloves at harbor freight and save yourself the headache of scrubbing
"A new this, a new this, and a new that." Lol.
Yeah definatley paint this car either dark blue or black and put in tan or red seats
You should reach out to MUSTIE1 a bother YTER whose specialty is these volkys and he has all kinds of parts. I've seen him revive motors for then that where just as in dire condition. This double fun.
Gonna sell after?
I’m scratching my head over why you welded the gas door shut and put an older style gas tank where you have open the hood to put gas in it. Is that something people seek out?
Just rebuild it. It's out and you don't know the condition before the fire 🔥
🤝
Please keep the classic exterior look but modernize the engine and interior electronics, like the good old wrecks to riches builds plz!!!
Decent
Should change the name of your channel to Ultimate Cliff Hanger.
I don't get it, you cut out the back of the body work because you couldn't find your jack for a minute?
I was thinking man I hope he’s tested that started before he’s putting that engine back. If he hasn’t then it’s 100% not going to work.
Coat bare metàl with ospho
@Wicked Works
Make it yellow again call it Dodo that was the german herbie
that look so painful wirebrushing that all out hit up tiptop laser cleaning
That's not good...😮
Cliff hanger 😢
It's an engine. The starter motor is a motor.
A "MOTOR" is what runs an electronic component.
An "ENGINE" runs on combustion and fuel. This VE doesn't move by a motor.
I thought you were more smart than what you lead folks to believe.😉💯
It's crying out to become white with the number '53' make it a show piece over time
That music is weird goes in and out.
Clear coat the car and leave it as is
Speed it up this video is too short as it is
Man at this point why even bother with this rusted pile of crap honestly. Why not just go get the body of a good condition one and just rebuild one from scratch nothing is repairable in this anyway lool.. and their cheap to start with,.
Don't paint it! Just clear coat, the fire damage has so much character
Don't forget to spray some primer on the back of the panel.
You got tons of work done in this episode.
Reach out if you need any engine help, email is in my about section
👍👍👍🫵👍 I got faith in you. I’m sure it’ll work.
