    MATT... SAFETY NOTE; incorporate/install some type of fire extinguishing system INSIDE the engine bay since now you won’t be able to “quickly” open the hood to get to a fire if need be.

    Not part of a the technical exoskeleton but skid plates would be a must imo. Given the size of this thing, you are going over a ton of obstacles and protecting the boxes on the side as well as stuff like driveshaft and transmission should be taken into account. A skid plate from the front bumper would be nice as well to help move stuff under the truck

    Been a journeyman welder/fabricator for a while now and done quite a few custom one off projects and having built lots of oilfield equipment (flush by’s coil tubing units, garbage trucks, concrete batch plants, the list goes on) when you roll a heavy disproportionate truck the main issue is bent frames which causes bad dog legging which is near impossible to straighten. Also if you have use a keyed square slot at the pivot point of the front cage you can make a leverage arm bar to open the cage with a 4:1ish mechanical advantage. Also don’t use bolts for the window screen go get a couple snap latches and make the pipes bottom out point the plate behind. No more room but lots of tips so hmu!!!

    Weld the nuts onto those pipe flanges. That way you can never lose the nuts, and if you need to open the hood in the field, you only need 1 wrench instead of 2. Also might want to put a threaded drain plug on the lowest points of each pipe run. That way you can drain any water that eventually makes its way in from rain.

I've got a cat in my 99, friend has a Cummins in his 2001, running the same load with identical trailers at the same time I outpulled on the hills and got better fuel economy. Both factory tuned, mine at 475hp his 500. Obviously my sample size is small, but his was checked out by the dealer and was supposedly in tip top shape so there was nothing wrong with it at the time. At least not obvious. That truck of his now sits behind his grandfathers barn and he drives a 2005 with a CAT that he got for a steal from a small local carrier with 250k on a platinum overhaul.

    • @darkhom3
      @darkhom3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Only thing is that truss connectors aren’t really meant to come apart under pivoting stress without shearing the truss it self apart, they are meant to come apart horizontally but the idea of hammering a pin through two or more elements appeals to me even more since it’s almost a year since I did my last gig as stagehand on a concert

    • @brandonevans4142

    • @ellencameron3775
      @ellencameron3775 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Too much shearing force. That whole thing is going to be torquing around in various directions, and the standard pin/r-clip you see with 12" and even 18" truss simply won't end up cutting it. Plus, they are talking about making aspects out of that with schedule 40, so right off the bat the whole system is going to weigh a ton more than your standard lighting truss. Look at the big stuff they use for arena tours, especially power distro truss; that stuff is all 5/8" bolts.
