  • How to Make Beeswax Wraps at Home / Plastic-Free Alternative
    Hi there,
    Looking for a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to plastic cling wrap? In this video, I'll show you how to make your own beeswax wraps at home! These reusable wraps are perfect for wrapping sandwiches, snacks, and more, and they're incredibly easy to make with just a few simple ingredients. Not only are beeswax wraps better for the environment, they're also a great way to save money and reduce waste in your kitchen.
    In this step-by-step tutorial, I'll show you how to make beeswax wraps using cotton fabric and beeswax. You'll learn how to melt the wax, spread it evenly over the fabric, and set it to create a long-lasting and durable wrap that you can use again and again.
    If you're looking for an eco-friendly way to keep your food fresh and delicious, making beeswax wraps is a great option. Follow along with me in this video to learn how to make your own!
    Happy Crafting, Deidre

    So happy you have brought this old art of sealing back to our attention. As a child in the 1950's, I remember seeing aunts/great aunts making & using them....treating their our bees wax from their hives. Don't remember why my mother stopped using them. So surprised to learn about the wax pellets. Will be trying some. Thank you! 🙂

    Great idea! I've only seen where the wax was melted on the stove and the fabric was dipped. I used wraps already, but they were purchased and I was thinking of making my own. Thanks!

    I made some of these for gifts. The addition of Jojoba oil helps prevent cracking. A bit of pine resin helps it to stick to itself.

    I love making beeswax wraps! I've found that adding a smidgen of oil in with the beeswax helps them conform even better. But I love that you just ironed the pellets right on there. That's much easier than what I've been doing.

    • @vmmiller1558
      @vmmiller1558 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What type of oil? And I'm assuming you melt the beeswax and paint it on...?

    • @ElectroAnnie
      @ElectroAnnie ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@vmmiller1558 Olive oil is the easiest, and yes, I've been using a paintbrush. But after seeing this video, I think it could be cool to melt the wax/oil and pour thin onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet, and break up and store the pieces for later use with the parchment paper/iron method.

      @patriciablank597 mineral oil would be a good choice. It's odorless, clear, food safe, highly purified, lightweight, and won't go rancid like other food oils.

    How do you store these wraps between use? This looks real interesting!

    • @sth.777
      @sth.777 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking the same; I think I'll wrap them around a cardboard tube, with parchment paper between each one. If you want to store them flat or folded, I'd probably still put a layer of parchment between each...

    • @paulabeaulieu52
      @paulabeaulieu52 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrapping them around cardboard might be a good idea. How do you clean them? Just wipe them?

    • @debkincaid2891
      @debkincaid2891 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a set of 3. I just fold them in half (without creasing) & just store them in the same drawer with my parchment paper, foil, plastic wrap, etc. They don't really need any special treatment other than keep them away from fuzzy towels, etc. I don't use soap to wash mine: I just rinse under lukewarm water or wipe off with a damp dishcloth.

    Possible silly question: I live in the South. Will the wax leak off in the heat if were outside?

    • @heavenlymorsels
      @heavenlymorsels ปีที่แล้ว

      They can’t be exposed to hot water or they will melt so thinking extreme heat will be an issue, this also makes them unsuitable for wrapping meat, fish and liquids as you can only clean them with cold water and can’t sanitize them event though they have natural anti microbial properties this is still a no no!

    • @OurUpcycledLife
      @OurUpcycledLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I’m sure it would in the heat

  • @sarahrenfrow9795
    @sarahrenfrow9795 ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you clean these? Seems like hot, soapy dish water would probably melt the wax. Also, how do you store them? I am all about conservation, recycling, etc., but just don’t believe this is a viable solution.

    • @OurUpcycledLife
      @OurUpcycledLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I clean them with cool soapy water hang them up to dry and then you can just fold them and keep them in your drawer in your kitchen and they work perfect
