Yeah true but, that nostalgia feeling quickly turned sour when you have to hear it over and over again when editing the video lol. I shouldn't complain tho, it was great fun working on these.
Thanks Mike. I'm tempted to hang onto them but work has been a bit quiet lately, so it would be good to make something back from them. Thanks for leaving a comment.
Really enjoyed the video Philip thanks, seen the mosfet being changed before I think it’s a common failure, I did notice the collector of the mosfet looked burnt 😊
I have D882s on hand so I've definitely replaced one or two before, probably in the Grandstand Firefox games. I didn't notice any burning but yeah, the mosfets are always a good place to start. These VFD displays do seem to last a long time. They look so fragile too.
Hello, what a brilliant video,i bought a Astro Wars machine and i think the screen blew, saw another one for less money i paid for the other one,the olny thing was the screen it was cracked,so i had the spare one and swapped overand works perfectly.no box though.the tape idea works very with the buttons.
Thanks Steve, glad you got yours fixed too. If memory serves me right, the screen should have a small black splodge inside from whem it is made. If it's white, the display will be faulty.
The first thought, why use a chip like Muxer where you can use a barrel type of jack to send the current where it should go :D. Where is in laptops you have to use Mux IC. Such simple solution and is to be true robust :D.
@@PhilipBryden sorry :D. So, in the laptop when you see a 19V on the input, just for this example, this voltage has to go somewhere. Before it reaches main power rail, we have mux IC, I call it muxer. It's a divider IC which allows this laptop to run from the charger or battery. It's like this barrel connector in your toy. :) Hope it's clearer now.
So nostalgic hearing that startup

Great fix, and a possible nice profit, . it's always that power transistor that goes on these, thanks Phil 😀

@@PhilipBryden ,I didn’t know that,but I know I don’t work.
did you desolder the entire screen?
@@PhilipBryden no,I saw another one on eBay and bought that one,it was cheaper than the other one.i made one good out of the two.

I have no idea what you are talking about lol.

@@wisher21ukI know, we are friends on FB 👍
@@PhilipBrydenoh lol ok 😂
I get the feeling that someone pulled the game apart and broke that speaker wire on purpose. Because it's loud and a bit grating.
Lol quite possibly. Probably done while the kids were at school. If it wasn't a classic, I could have tried to fit a volume knob.
Let's GO!!
I think I got lucky with these two. Easy fixes.
@@PhilipBryden nothing wrong with that! You’re entitled to them after the Firefox nightmare
@@kiphakesI don't want to talk about the Firefox games 😢lol
