It's nice to see how a pro does things in another country. I'm from The States and most of the contractors here are still installing cast iron boilers. Didn't the installers use boiler chemicals when the systems were installed that they are plugging up? They sure install the boilers in tight places there. When did the use of condensing boilers become popular there? Thanks, Bill

In continental Europe condensing boilers have been used for many years,People in the U.K like to hide boilers don't know why in places where they can be awkward to service.
Hi allen where did you buy these camlock fittings at 5:58. I can find the 3/4” to 1” bush but cannot find the camlock fittings. I have norstrom thermal and magnacleanse. Thanjs
Did you have the boiler flow and return isolated as I’ve seen some to say it’s better to not contaminate the heat exchanger with the sludge and all the boiler components. Is this right. ? If it’s like this. What’s the difference with flushing the system and descaling the boiler. Just the chemical. And calcification rather than Iron oxide sludge.
Hi Allen your making that look too easy, why wait for tub to heat up then dump off after every rad ? Needs magnets to see what has been captured. Was keen to see difference of a heated flush opposed to un heated ? If boiler broke, using electric heat, why flush through boiler ? Connect straight onto F & R.
If removing a radiator and connecting powerflush. Would you put the flow from the powerflusher on the flow side of the radiator and return to the return
Dear Allen, I have a radiator which has I can't access and is shut all the time can I still do power flush with all the other radiators? Someone stupidly built shelves around it so I cannot get to the thermostatic valve to turn it on even if I wanted to.
Great video, but not sure how to connect the power flush machine to boiler, I don’t wanna cut into pipe work though, is there any alternative. Boiler is valiant and have 2 way valves on flow and return which can be adjusted with screwdriver. Thanks
Hi Allen how much do you charge for this as im think getting it done plus would this stop my boiler from losing pressure all the time ive had a new expansion vessel put in but still doing it so just wondering if this would help if not what could be the problem with my combi boiler cheers Allen
Hi Alan would you say you have to be gas safe engineer to powerflush as there is so many fine lines as u say the pump is in combi boilers and system boilers. The cover of the boiler people saying is an issue to be gas safe.
Personally i dont believe its a DIY task, best to leave it to the people who know what they are doing, every job is different and needs different things doing. Thanks.
Alan as I am sure you appreciate not all plumbers are equal, neither are all DIYers. Of course you need to be competent to complete any job correctly and anything less is a bodge. Personally after running big power plants and large chilled water systems I am very happy that my plumbing skills are more than satisfactory. The one thing that stands in the way of DIY in this sort of job is the kit and as long as it can be hired then there is no good reason why a perfectly good job could not be done.
I do not really agree if i am totally honest, i have done hundreds and hundreds of powerflushes if not thousands and TBH i had done quite a lot of them before i understood what i was doing. A diyer might think they have done a good job but i would say in nearly all cases they do not and end up calling someone like me. When you take into account the cost of the machine and cost of the chemicals used i do not think customers get a bad deal. Many thanks.
Hi Alan, I need a bit of advice (if you kindly would). My boiler has locked out due to flake build-up, I've been informed the boiler itself can be power flushed with chemicals. My concerns are; 1, is this going to be effective? 2, Is that amount of pressure running 'directly' through the boiler ok? 3, Is the flake likely to cause damage to the boiler parts, as its pushed through it? Thanks.
Do you need to be at the top of the system Because if not won't the powerflush overflow with water level? Also, Will You need to vent the rads to fill and then properly flush them
I agree, speedfit is probably the best push fit gear out there, don't understand why you'd bother using stuff like hep when you've got to use a daft tool to get fittings apart. The old grey hep was terrible for heating systems, the black sludge it produced was unreal.
Hi Alan, I’m glad you agree with push fit… I have been doing plumbing for more then six years and learned off qualified plumbers I had doing the the work for me. We work on extensions, lofts bathrooms and kitchen etc. I recently have taken an online course to become a gas safe engineer. And said to the guy that I’ve used speed fit and push fit etc and they brilliant. He was going mad about it and said if you use that your a plumber who never made it. I’m like you I have used them for years and never had one costumer complaint or calling us back as far as I know if you do them right they never go wrong. So Im glad you recommend them.
Hello Allan I'm interested in getting the norstrom power flushing machine, do you think it's worth getting the electric heated power flushing machine? I've already got a magnacleanse thanks
Ideally should a powerflush happen before a new boiler is installed or doesn't it matter ? I had a new baxi 630 installed and the installer said after it needed flushing.
What are they called even see if I can find them... I had planned to just jubilee clip the hoses together with copper but these would be a much better job!
Powerflush is a pump that flushes the system, You can use a powerflush by itself or with a magnacleanse, You can also just do a magnacleanse by itself, If you just do a magnacleanse it uses the pump in the boiler. What is needed verey much depends how bad the system is. Thanks for watching.
Another great video Allen just one question do you think that the water heating capability on this power flushing machine is worth the extra cost? It seemed like it could take a while to get a full heating system up to temperature? Thanks again Allen.
I have only tried the heater on a small 6 rad ish system and it was really really good, i might get the built in magnets though as it will be better for setting up.
Great informative videos. I worked on boilers alot, not many wall hung. I would see sludge in the steam boilers but not in the hot water heating system. What causes that?.. In hot water here 3/4 in baseboards and a cast iron boiler typically run at 180° F, i purged so many, drained many, but nothing like that sludge you got out.. Remembering now baseboards i removed and replaced i never saw that build up you showed in your copper. Maybe its the additives they put in our water that keeps it out?? Great videos very informative
I would like to know is this only on the combi boilers??.. I like this flushing, i think for my situation, i would drain the existing system, run fresh water through & drain again. The i would put the chemicals in the existing boiler, let it run everything a couple days. Then return for r&r... Only i never heard anybody doing it.. It would be a nice add on sale for maybe extra 500$ but i couldn't bring myself to sit there all day charging for my time.. Definitely can't do either without proper knowledge.
I normally let the boiler work with the chemicals in the try and clean it as much as possible, i wouldnt normally take the plate out though on a flush. Thanks.
generally only has to be done on older systems. We always power flush before fitting new boilers in fact most manufacturers will void the boiler guarantee if its not done.
FCH now called Longhurst HA do not do this for their Housing Association tenants the annual boiler service is just bare minimum. The gas engineer just want to get out quick so they can say they serviced more unit so more pay we customers tenants pay for it through bigger gas bills and when we have leaks they don't pay for the damage they have caused to our property. Tenants NEED TO KNOW this Info.
Allen it would be nicer always start with "Hello guys Allan Hart here again" you never say hi bro Lol. Can I ask for your opinion regrading experience, I'm doing level 2 plumbing this year and yesterday I been told there's a 30hours experience form Rotherham and council, thet suggest me to go, my question is would that be good to go or just carry one with my course?
I scratch my head, because all the maintaining is crucial. If you hire a plumber all day to flush a system plus the chemicals you probably spent all the money you saved in the High Efficiency unit and more. Then when i hear the units are lasting 10 years or so. I'll take a freestanding cast iron boiler at 83 or so efficiency with very low maintenance. I couldn't bring myself to sell them knowing the cast iron boiler has a lifetime warranty on the core and it will last, compared to the limited life expectancy of these condensing wall hung boilers. A day of flushing is probably not less than 1250$ in my area, then the yearly maintenance. I don't see anyone saving a dime, then your time to be sitting with the plumber every year has to be worth something, no? I agree, it's not for me.. And i love tinkering, cleaning, handymen stuff.
Very well put together video. Clear, simple but thorough explanation of power flush

Good job, Allen! You're a real PRO!
very interesting. I will wait next video in future
I always need a power flush in the morning ;)
Thank you Allan, planning to buy power flush machine
Thank You
Awesome cheers Allen cracking video, I’m currently looking at what flushing machine to buy.
Fantastic a have learned a lot from your video. 👍🥃

Google and ebay. all i did was google what I needed.

How can the heat exchanger be cleaned? Given that the pump only runs one way?
you gotta stay strong man!
Does this force the dirt through the boiler? I have visions of all the little bits getting caught in the heat exchange
Allen got the POWER !!! :D
Hi Allen how much do you charge for this as im think getting it done plus would this stop my boiler from losing pressure all the time ive had a new expansion vessel put in but still doing it so just wondering if this would help if not what could be the problem with my combi boiler cheers Allen
Nice video. Very helpful, cheers!
Thanks for watching.
Hi mate how much does a power flush cost ? Will british gas home care service cover this ?
Hi Allen
I have 8 radiators in my home.5 off them have no heat at all….do i need a power flush or could the problem lie elsewhere please????
really useful stuff, no doubt about that.
Hi Alan would you say you have to be gas safe engineer to powerflush as there is so many fine lines as u say the pump is in combi boilers and system boilers.
The cover of the boiler people saying is an issue to be gas safe.
Thanks again Allen.
You are very welcome
Just flushing a heating system on oil now. The pipework is hep non barrier. System is rotten. Ill try post some pics and a video if you like
To do this properly takes a lot of time and patience. A good DIY task if you hire the machine.
Personally i dont believe its a DIY task, best to leave it to the people who know what they are doing, every job is different and needs different things doing. Thanks.

Does non magnetic debris get taken out also
Do you need to be at the top of the system

no. call a plumber. all systems are different.

Allen Hart I’ve had the odd occasion where mice have nibbled through it but that’s rare. Would happen to any plastic pipe I suppose.
Hi Alan, I’m glad you agree with push fit… I have been doing plumbing for more then six years and learned off qualified plumbers I had doing the the work for me. I have the pump head but havent used it on a job yet, Thanks.

I had a new baxi 630 installed and the installer said after it needed flushing.
In an ideal world it would be flushed before but thats not always possible.
If your system wasn't flushed prior to fitting new boiler, then much efficency of new blr is lost because you have now pumped magnetite into it!
Gd vid, just ordered the same machine and have the magnacleanse. Where did you get the fittings to go from 1" to 3/4!?
Thanks very much for your comment, please consider subscribing to support the channel 🙂
I ordered them from google. Sorry i cannot remember where i got them now.
