    Excellent video.... I agree time is against you when flushing /boiler fitting ..
    I always visit the job a week before to add chemicals an let them use heating as Normal.. go back the day before and give the system an bloody good flushing, mains flushing back and forward until water is is clear.. reconnect up to existing boiler
    Return next day and swap boiler an works .. then give a final hot flush an then add inhibitor ... hope that’s enough to be suffice for benchmark

    If the existing boilers functional. I prefer to do a hot flush balance the filling loop with the drain off and keep the boiler running on full. If I can tap into the flow then I will. In most cases I'll always reccomend a magnaclense if the system water looks particularly dirty. The powerflush comes out as a last resort. Or if the customer requests. I'm pretty sure adey with replace your rad agitator if you send them a pic of your broken one. That piece comes with a lifetime warranty. Brilliant work Allen, appreciate your hard efforts. 👍

    Great video as always, but you have missed out something which non professionals might not know: to do a flush, any motorized valves controlling the heating, and cylinder if this needs a flush, must be open, otherwise the water won't circulate. I made this mistake on my system, which uses motorized valves on flow and return: when the electricity is powered off, the valves default to closed position.

      Hi Allen ive got a 10 mm microbore system with a potterton profile boiler 30 yrs old now still going and serviced every year. I asked the guywho just done a service about a powerflush as the system has never been drained he said its no good for microbore.
      Any thoughts ive got a few cold spots on the rads and boiler is a bit noisy at times.any advice would be appreciated

  • @loafersheffield

    So, isolate boiler, blast thru system at mains pressure, each rad sequentially, whilst you have a few ciggies n brews and take the old bolier offa the wall? I've done that b4. Meks sense.
    Got dragged out today to a 3 rad, vented system with a small HW storage cylinder on a canal barge. Pump was running off a 12V supply. Had a log burner fitted and a secondary diesel heat source for summer added later. f&e tank was the size of a matchbox. Had to admit defeat. R. Don was frozen. Few dead fish trapped in the ice. Grabbed a couple. So, at least only had to buy a bag of chips fromt chippy on way home for mi tea. Happy new year, pal!

    Nice explanation of the flushing process Allen , ive recently purchased a new tool made by Fernox , it looks like a painters roller about 200 mm in length and is used to roll up and down on the rads to agitate the magnetite inside the rad and help to remove it while flushing , basically its a rubber roller with a very strong magnate inside and you use it the same way you would if you where roller painting a wall , from what ive seen it seems to help a lot in the removal of the built up sediment inside the rad....
    Cheers Allen

    I always drain the system and add clean water into the system with cleaner ill have the boiler running for a couple of hours to make sure all the magnetite breaks up and ill go round each radiator and use a rubber sds mallet to remove any sludge that's stuck to the rad. After this ill close each radiator individually to make sure each rad is getting a good solid clean. After this ill turn the boiler off. Ill then flush all the cleaner out of the system and re instate the system with fresh water and inhibitor. Ill then balance the system so that the system is working efficiently again. Usually takes me half a day. To do a flush alone. If its a new install I usually take a full day.

  • @mattmackenzie1111
    @mattmackenzie1111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I my experience a cold water main flush does not clean system, only cleans water so down the line corrosion is still in radiator, making water dirty. Powerflush is only answer for me!

    • @efrygasservices6169
      @efrygasservices6169 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find that it does help remove large amounts of rust and dirt within the system, which I feel is a good start and can help reduce the amount of time you need to carry out a power flush or chemical flush.

    • @kevincranfield5235
      @kevincranfield5235 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not only that, it can also help you determine which radiators are most affected by observing the flow from your hose pipe and can detect whether there is a hidden by pass on the system etc etc.

I've also used an infrared thermometer to check the working rads and they are approximately 10 degrees colder at the bottom than the top. Does that mean that the system hasn't been flushed sufficiently on install and needs a power flush?

    I have a magnetic MagnaClean Prof 2 ADEY filter installed for my GRANT combi boiler. I cleaned the element with water, some kind of solvent to remove the sludge and mechanically removed the metallic particles from the element. I am going to run the boiler with a cleaner and afterwards I am going to add the protector chemical in the filters bowl. do I have to flush the system's water to completely remove the cleaner before I fill the filter' bowl with the protector chemical?

    • @AllenHart999
      @AllenHart999  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Elen. Very good question. I would always advise to remove as much of the cleaner as possible, The more clean water you flush through the better. Hope this helped. Thanks.

    I wonder why the system cannot be flushed out while the old boiler is still in situ, if it still works of course but is just on it’s last legs so to speak? Then nothing will go into the new boiler at all as everything will have been removed before it is fitted. Am I missing something as I know nothing about boilers but want to learn as mine will need replacing soon. Would you recommend the Viessmann Vitodens 200-W from both a performance and ease of service point of view, for a 3 bed detached with 1 bathroom and 1 shower room and 10 rads?

    • @AllenHart999
      @AllenHart999  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it can. but it would cost you more as it takes more time and you also need to flush the new boiler. Thanks.

    Is this for a combination boiler as apposed to a condending boiler and hot water cylinder. would you have cold water system connected to your boiler on a latter type.
    I pressurise my system at a small red tank next to my hot water storage cylinder .
    Also
    I have a radiator flush point near my front door.
    Is this normal

    Hi Allen I'm arranging with my plumber to fit new combi boiler replacing old gravity boiler late summer, I will need to also replace a load of seized rad valves would it be beneficial to remove the rads at same time and flush out in the garden with hose pipe higher pressure ? also in you're opinion should I have thermostatic valves fitted, hoping to do this prior to the plumber coming to save him time and me money thoughts please.

    @Allen Hart @Allen Hart @Allen Hart is it almost mandatory to do a chemical flush on a install job? 2. @ 12.33 mins you said return to boiler do you mean the muck going out of the drain off near boiler?
    3. @ 12.49mins you said about chemical flush and no option but to push it through boiler ( you actually mean the muck gets pushed through boiler.?)
