Not sure if someone already mentioned this, but squalene and squalane are two different types of oils! The one in the Ilia skin tint is squalane (an oil I absolutely love) while squalene is a less stable version of the beloved squalane oil. Squalene tends to go rancid pretty quickly because of how unstable it is, and isn't compatible with all skin types. Love the video though! I was definitely intrigued by the skin tint after seeing an ad for it.
Hey guys! The ilia uses squalane rather than squalene which I did read wrong. Technically it is a fatty ester (this one at least), rather than an oil. Similar but indeed different technically not an oil. I recommend checking out Dr. Dray's video about Squalane if you're interested in the topic!
I haven’t tried the Kosas….but I just got the Ilia Serum and am crazy about it!!! I am in my 50s with good skin, I’m aging well, but in the past decade or so have noticed that not all foundations look good on me anymore. The Ilia just makes your skin look beautiful and wears so well. I do set it with a little Hourglass setting powder. Even after a long, crazy night at work, my skin looks even, fresh, slightly glowy in the morning. Loving it! I like most everything I’ve tried from Ilia.
Thanks for laying out ingredients in beginning. I am weirdly allergic to zinc oxide and break out from niacinamide so the first one was immediately a no for me.
Kosas revealed my dry skin and made the texture more pronounced :( the dry oils dissipate so quickly that the colored mineral pigments deposit right onto my dry areas. Will give the Ilia a try. Thanks for your review!
Love the review. I have oily mature skin. Omg Kosas blurs everything..pores,wrinkles,texture. Awesome coverage if you put 5 to 6 drops with your hands. Simply amazing
Just recently got into watching your videos . I'm so happy that I did . We have alot in common when it comes to the way we wear our make up . You're all about enhancing and all about a skin like finish . Now a days on TH-cam its hard to find someone who's not packing on loads of full coverage . Love your channel , not to mention you are so naturally stunning.
I agree with 100%. On camera the Ilia looks like it has more coverage and is so dewy. I am definitely going to Sephora and get a sample of each to try as I like both of them, but I have extremely dry skin. Thanks for your review!
The kosas emphasized every single one of my pores 😱 so if kosas is more airbrushed then i definitely dont want to try ilia. Thank you for the wonderful review!
Pssst, I’m not sure if you tried this before but Haley’s beauty has a tinted oil! I got a sample of it on their site and it reminds me of the kosas one but a bit more slippery. It’s also half the price 😎
I am also #02 in Kosas. I use The Ordinary squalane underneath and it always applies well, and does not bunch up on the outside of my nostrils like the L'Oreal Tinted Serum does. So far I am liking the Kosas but find the coverage might be too light for the workday. And, it never quite dries down. So I am trying to get used to that. But, I love thin product like this. Years ago Revlon had THE BEST foundation in a tiny, squeezy bottle, very similar, with a shaker bead as well. It even had SPF. Yes, I still miss it! Thanks for the side by side. Glad I tried the Kosas. ~Happy Holidays~ 🌿🕊️💕🌍🎄⛄
I have oily skin and I've been able to wear the Kosas tinted face oil with no issues. They sent me a generous sample size bottle and I really love the healthy glow it gives my skin. How liquidy it is did scare me at first bc I had done my eye makeup before but it does sink into the skin very fast so it's not slipping all over your face.
Great comparison review, thanks. You are absolutely Gorgeous! I am using the Ilia Tinted Serum now and love it. I just got samples of the new EvanHealy tinted oil serum foundation and I'm kind of loving that too! Would love to see a review on that new cosmetics line and especially the tinted serum compared to either of these two.
I tried the Kosas Tinted Oil in shade 01 Porcelain Cool when it first came out. It was too yellow on me. I am not the fairest coolest shade either. I thought I was very close to Amanda's coloring, but the Kosas didn't look good on me at all. I wear the same shade of products as Amanda on a lot of other products, so beware. I still want to try the Ilia Tinted Oil. I love foundations with SPF, but thanks to great genes and a great skincare regime I don't need a lot of foundation and don't want to cover my own skin. I really don't think lots of makeup is good for skin. I noticed that my skin was a lot happier and the redness went away when I stopped wearing a lot of foundation and just focused on using a concealer under my eyes and on any red areas. The best product I use for under my eyes is BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector along with the Anti-Fatigue Under Eye Primer. The peachy corrector really looks great on my skin, and I only need a tiny amount of concealer. Instead of foundation I love Chanel Les Beiges Eau de Tint which gives my skin a golden glow. It's designed to be used over Chanel Les Beiges foundation, so I think it will look great on the Ilia Tinted Oil.
This was very helpful thank you. My skin is very fair and cool toned and i thought i was going crazy when the lightest kosas color was still too dark and orange. The ilia 0.5 shade seems to work well though!
I finally pick up the Mac f&b because of your videos, the rubbing before applying tip really helped a lot! :) I think I'll pass on these two even though I have dry skin but I don't like oil base products especially foundations. Anyway good comparison video!
I was surprised how Kosas made my dry areas more prominent, especially my chin. Wasn’t expecting that. I moisturized my skin well so I know it wasn’t because of that. When I first applied the Kosas it looked really good and it was so easy to apply. Great for mornings if you’re in a rush. I was like wow this is great. Applied fast and blended so well. I’m bummed it made my skin look dry though. Now I really want to try the Ilia Skin Tint. Hopefully that will be better for me. Oh also I didn’t powder after applying the Kosas. Thank you for the review!!!!
Omg yes thank you for reading my mind! I’m currently using the glossier skin tint and when it runs out my plan was to buy the Kosas. Now with the ilia out I’ve been wondering if I want that one instead 🤔
@@AmandaZ Oooh good thought. My closest sephora is an hour away so I don't go often but next time I go to the city I have this list of products I want to try out and these are totally on the list.
Fantastic info! I’ve actually wondered how these two compared and was super glad to see this. When the Kosas first came out I almost immediately purchased it. Then I started to read reviews about it adhering horribly to dry patches so I held back. Maybe I should try the Ilia. What I have done, however, is mic my No7 drops with oils (sometimes with a touch of moisturizer) and really enjoy it. I love those little drops, lol. Thanks, girlie🍃🌸
This was a great video and I noticed you said this product has oil in it. If you look at the Ilia web site, the Super serum skin tint is Silicon-free, Fragrance-free, Chemical screen-free, OIL free, Non-comedogenic, and safe for sensitive skin. Keep up the great job!!!
Oh wow, Amanda! This isn't about the video but I just noticed now that you have 16k subscribers. It didn't feel long ago when I first subscribed and you only had a few hundred subscribers... which I was surprised to see given how informative your reviews have always been. Congratulations!!
This looks amazing on you. I'd say the Colourpop and the Ilia are my two favourites on you. Unfortunately, we don't have the Ilia serum or Colourpop in Canada, but we have the Ilia foundation, which is really expensive. Would love to try this. Thanks for the reviews 👍
I have extremely dry skin so I know the Kosas one won’t work. Currently I can only use the Milk Skin Tint as it doesn’t emphasize my texture. I’ve seen you wear it before but haven’t heard your thoughts so would love to see you review that one!
Thanks for this video!! I've been going back and forth between the two brands...I'm so new to clean beauty...I haven't purchased any yet so this video has been really helpful! however I'm still torn between the two!!! lol! :)
Id be interested on your opinion on the nudestix tinted cover.. watched your video but wanted to know if you still enjoy / use it or if there is an alternative you like more 💕✨
Hey guys, anyone know if the Ilia product is in a glass or plastic bottle? Thinking about buying it and I’m just curious lol. Thanks so much, loved this video! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Longtime subscriber here! I also made a video comparison on this too! It’s interesting to hear how differently the products can work on different skin types ☺️
Thank you for doing this comparison. I have been looking at both of these for some time, but could not make up my mind. I have drier skin and foundations tend to highlight that. I am looking for something that looks natural in that no makeup look. I just didn’t know how oils would work in a foundation. I also have not been able to pair any foundation with a sunscreen nicely. Nothing I find works together. You mentioned that you had a sunscreen you liked to use with the Kosas tint. Can you share which sunscreen that is, please? Also, you are beautiful. What other products are you wearing? (If you don’t mind sharing) Thanks. You have a new subscriber here!
Do you use any powder to set your ilia or just leave as is? The 8 hour wear was without setting it? I just bought this product and love it. I'm just figuring out the best way to use it
I didn't like how the Kosas tinted oil didn't stay during the day. It also settles in lines badly. I got my money back from them so at least that was a good thing. Does the other oils stay better?
i am not sure if i missed something but i feel like one of the main differences should be that kosas does not have spf (i think that is correct...) if it does not, that is definitely a pro for the ilia serum IMO

Squalene also comes from sharks and rays. Squalane can be made.

Such a beautiful and thoughtful review! Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 looks gorgeous on you! xx Team ILIA

I found the kosas makes me allergic, especially if I put it under the eyes. I found my vision got blurry on days when I applied it close to the eyes.
Love your lip color!😍

Cinamoon Gurl I don’t recommend it at all! Doesn’t apply smoothly and I found there was tiny particles in it, super weird.
