I took this video in 2015. My wife and I went to a fundraiser luncheon for Eliza’s orphanage, Graham Windham, hosted at the NYC Historical Society. It was the first time Lin and Phillipa sang That Would Be Enough outside of the Richard Rogers Hamilton production - the producers gave special permission. We were so honored to be there! And I am so glad I was able to record this amazing moment. Enjoy.
I'm not sad at that part because I saw a meme and it was like "I relish being your wife" and it had a hot dog with relish because you know it's a topping and now I can never think of it the same way again xD
Moana the musical? Really thinking ahead here. I know it's probably culturally inappropriate to think philipino can play Samoan, but hello this is Hamilton after all. Skills beat culturally appropriate every night on that stage.
Two words: professionalism and emotion. They're not on the stage for Hamilton; they're not wearing their costumes but good heavens, tell me you didn't feel as if this really was Eliza and Alexander having a heartfelt conversation. (It helps too that Lin and Pippa have amazing chemistry. They're both such lovely cinnamon rolls.)
Lin barely sings, but his FACE says so much. All the times she says "that would be enough" and his mind just can't process- Because how could this beautiful woman love him as he is?
Recently Lin said that he wrote this song for his wife, and sung it to her for the first time with tears pouring down his face... It kills me even more now
Literally if they don't give all the Tony's to Hamilton (except for best revival I guess can go to dwsa) and then invent like five new ones for them I won't be satisfied
Her biggest achievement stands to this day, isn't that inspirational. Look at how much difference one woman did, still she didn't crave the glory of it. She wanted good in the world and she created it for both her husband and herself, and all the children raised in this orphanage. One woman changed the lives of thousands... Don't you dare say you're insignificant anymore after seeing this.
Although his wife's reaction always makes me happy again- she thought that he wanted her to say those kind of things to him, when it was actually the opposite way around.
+dσ¢тσя єηzумє αρσ¢αℓуρѕє (вυввℓє fяєαк) Phillip wouldn't dislike this, he loves his father too much. I think it's John Adams, John Laurens, Jefferson, Maria, and Angelica (3/5 of those because Eliza got Hamilton and they didn't)
When Lin kissed her hand I..... My goodness I can't I normally can hold myself together and not cry even when I reeaaallly want to but this brought tears to my eyes
Actually, that's something they did (still do???) in the actual show: Eliza and Ham sit on a bench and Eliza has a big preggo belly, and they're holding hands through pretty much the whole song before he kisses it at the end.
Their OBC tho... Hamilton probably isn't an easy one to perform, and seeing a group of diverse amazing people, both young upstarts and Bway vets (Pippa's like, ~25 here, btw; holy frickin crap (side note: Jas is actually older than Pippa, ikr)) devote their time to it 8 times a week for months and months after 6-7 years of work? I'd make that face anytime I heard one of them sing. And Pippa playing Eliza packs that extra little punch because her work helped to make the whole freakin show possible.
When you realize... They didn’t just play this at any orphanage... This is at Eliza’s orphanage in New York City. And she’s singing about being pregnant with her child and loving Alexander. And she lost them both in the end, in the same way. I’m crying, I am legitimately crying. And I found out that Lin cries real tears, every time he cries during Hamilton performances. How is he able to do that, yet still continue maintaining his composure and singing, my voice turns into a wobbly mess when I try to singing, while crying. These two are phenomenal! Great job!
"I'm not afraid, I know who I married..." those lyrics just bring tears to my eyes, send a shiver down my spine but also clear my acne and put money in my bank account because they're so good. And the way she takes his hand, and he kisses it... I just...
Avengers-rule103 There's something so beautiful about it. For me, the line that gives me chills is, "I relish being *your* wife." How beautiful is that? How can you possibly imagine that kind of love? She just accepts him. She loves him and knows he's flawed and might not be in a good spot financially, and she doesn't even think twice about embracing him as hers anyway. There's good inside of all of us; Eliza simply found Hamilton's light and wants to show him how warm it really is. I aspire to that kind of purity.
They're beans!!!! They're little beans too good for this world!! I want to squish them. They are adorable little beans and I love them. I love my babies.
There Eliza Beans....she's the seeds that Hamilton planted in the Garden that he never got to see, those seeds were Eliza's and Alex's Children and Her telling his story.
When Pippa opens her mouth, it's literally heaven. No matter what the situation is, she will never disappoint me with her amazingly talented voice. She inspires me to sing, and always will. How is it possible to look so beautiful and have such an amazing voice?? I could never. I love her.
You know the song Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story? That little gasp at the end that Eliza has is apparently supposed to be Eliza finally seeing the audience and realizing her story has been told.
Literally, the fact that Lin kissed Phillipa hand at the end was the last straw. It was 3 AM and I was holding back tears from other Hamilton videos, but THIS was the hardest hit. It's too much for my heart
I watched this a third time (yes third, I have since watched it more) and muted it. I just watched Lin's facial expressions because those alone made me break down. He gets so in character and shows so much emotion, the anger and resentment for being sent home but the love Alexander has for his wife is shown so well and I was crying my heart out.
I love how Lin looks away from Phillipa after a minute, it feels so real. Then the ending, OMG. I love how they stay in character as much as possible, when they sing one of the more emotional songs!
This video is too precious for words! They looked and felt like a married couple in this moment and if you didn't know any better they could've been Eliza and Alexander Hamilton. That's how believable and great this performance is with their acting and chemistry! I love that they just didn't sing the song, they slipped into character too. Philipa has such a beautiful, angelic, soothing voice that reminds me so much of Julie Andrews! She should've sang "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story." The part beginning with "Oh can I show you what I'm proudest of..." and talks about establishing the orphanage in honor of him and seeing him in the eyes of every child she helped raise. Such underrated songs in the musical. NO ONE CAN SING THIS SONG BETTER THAN PIPS! Her low, soft to high pitch is EVERYTHING and she makes it very subtle and look EFFORTLESS. The tenderness in her voice really helps to convey the love that she is feeling and giving us that warmth, comfort, and nurturing vibe.
2:32 gets to me every. time. Just the way her voice beautifully hits the note and the piano in the back sounds amazing and she grabs Lins hand like so many emotions rush through me coz this song is just everything
the raw emotions, the amazing vocals, the fact that they’re performing this in THE orphanage and it was the first time this song was performed out of the theatre is incredible IM EMOTIONAL
I love this whole song, but my favorite line is "let me be a part of the narrative in the story they will write some day". Like, this part of the story takes place in 1781, when Hamilton had yet to *really* make a name for himself, but even at this point, Eliza has complete faith that his story will be written about, that he will make his mark. Even if she doesn't think they *need* that legacy, she knows they'll have it all the same, that Hamilton is going to achieve his goals. She believed in him. Goodness, but Phillipa and Lin are so damn amazing! They bring me to tears with this song! Thanks so much for sharing this! :)
I swear, if Lin wasn't married and Pippa not engaged... they would be perfect. You know this isn't acting just by looking at them. But since they are married/engaged, I'll take their friendship and watching them work so beautifully together.
I want to cry after hearing this song. I think about a female youth that turned me on to Hamilton in the first place. Phillipa and Lin sound so great together. And holding hands at the end, I can't believe it!
this is so full of love and kindness. i don't know how this is even real, but it gets me every single time. lin's almost crying expression on his face, pippa's soothing and angelic voice - i am actually all right 💙
I love how Eliza's actor takes Miranda Lin's hand then he just looks at it and plays along perfectly.💘😭 He is such a nice person :) he is always nice to everyone. (not just because of that)
Lin is so gracious. He constantly lets his co- performers shine in the spotlight. At the Tony's when he and Leslie were nominated together, when the camera was on him, he shook his head and waved the camera away. Lin wanted Tony night to be Leslie's night.
+afalefexafa but I love how their relationship grows during and after its quiet uptown. Eliza forgives Hamilton, and Hamilton acknowledges her as the "best of wives and best of women". I could go on but I'm crying now :')
I took this video in 2015.

Did you meant 2015? 'Cause the upload date of the video...
Bruno Alcântara Yes! Thank you!
Wow how lucky!
His name is Lin Manuel Miranda, NOT Manuel Lin.
Awesome that you got to be in the room where that happened! :D
Phillipa Soo has one of the most gorgeous voices I've ever heard.
Yes!! I am so in love with her !! She is such a great singer
I would listen to her sing anything
Her voice is so warm and expressive.
I know, its absolutely beautiful
K Corona yeahhhhhhhhh she really does! :D

Thanks for letting me know, as if I haven’t already cried enough about “the orphanage...” 😭
This was performed at Graham-Windham, the first private orphanage in New York City founded by Eliza Hamilton herself.
+jasobres ugh my heart.
+jasobres God. She was truly a saint.
I just can't even with this piece of information
+jasobres When she sings "look at where we are, look at where we started." I just saw your comment and I fell apart. Be still, my heart.
I DIDNT KNOW THIS NOW IM CRYING
Phillipa's voice and Lin's face I just..... I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING
+FunsizedFacts my though's exactly
Not to mention Lin kissing Phillipa's hand at the end of the song. I actually screamed out loud because it was so amazing.
That shows aspiring actors that even if your not in costume or onstage at your theatre you still have to act out the song.
FunsizedFacts OMG 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔💔💔he wrote it for his wife!!!!
and to know they are performing in the orphenage Eliza creat that make's cry so much more
The "i relish being your wife" bit gets me every damn time. Dammit Phillipa i'm in tears again
+crazybrownies83 Every. Single. Time.
+Celina Santin That's true love. No matter how you spin it, that is love.
Same ;-;
I'm not sad at that part because I saw a meme and it was like "I relish being your wife" and it had a hot dog with relish because you know it's a topping and now I can never think of it the same way again xD

+PhantomifyEponine OH MY GOD THAT'S HOW YOU SPELL HER LAST NAME?! I FINALLY KNOW I THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS COMMENT
+Sophie Holt HAHA you're welcome, glad to help :)
Maybe we are wrong, but in the book (at least the English version), it's Daae (not accented).
Only someone with the original could be sure, though!
It's actually Éponine, and Daaé is correct!
She is literally a Disney princess
+un0riginality Oh god I hope Disney doesn't get ahold of this show
I agree. She can be a Disney Princess.
Moana the musical? Really thinking ahead here. I know it's probably culturally inappropriate to think philipino can play Samoan, but hello this is Hamilton after all. Skills beat culturally appropriate every night on that stage.

Well also, Lin wrote this song for his wife. So I guess he gets emotional every time he hears it
+Hamiltrash he wrote it for his wife ughhh that is adorable and sad too!!!
I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS SONG MORE EMOTIONAL THAN IT IS
Ive read somewhere that this is for his wife. This is him singing to her and not the other way around. That explains his expressions.
I swear Alex Lacamoire follows Lin around as his personal pianist. They go seemingly EVERYWHERE together.
IKR
They should go everywhere together because together they are basically unstoppable lol
+Akayes212 You mean... Non-stop?
+Katherine Hunt Bada Tsshhh (that's my drum impression)
Alex really is Lin's Right Hand Man......
Recently Lin said that he wrote this song for his wife, and sung it to her for the first time with tears pouring down his face... It kills me even more now
And she went "is that what u wish i would say to u"😂😂😂
Actually sometimes I feel like she is Ham Ham and he is Eliza 😅

That's the sound of my heart breaking because of Lin's face and Phillipa's voice
I love Phillipa Soo, she needs a tony right now. Eliza is such a wonderful character
Literally if they don't give all the Tony's to Hamilton (except for best revival I guess can go to dwsa) and then invent like five new ones for them I won't be satisfied
+Kassi Savage For as awesome as that would be, unfortunately, I suppose that means you will never be satisfied.
+Bubblegum Panda she's never been satisfied
Actually Eliza is a real person but u know...

I agree. Eliza needs more credit for all the goods things she has done for the country and for the children
Actually it was Eliza along with other women but yeah she was great
This song makes me cry even more now knowing that Lin wrote it for his wife...
Although his wife's reaction always makes me happy again- she thought that he wanted her to say those kind of things to him, when it was actually the opposite way around.

He did write this song for his wife, so without a doubt he was probably getting emotional.
Lin's face is so expressive that any emotion he feels just gets to me and the purity of Phillipa's on top of it is just too much

I love how in this he wore a full suit except when he visited the white house he wore half a suit and jeans XD REPRESENT LIN
This is the definition of perfection
Philippa Soo is the most precious angel in the world any argument is invalid. Lins face and Philippas emotion in her voice was just incredible
does anyone else just die at 0:11 when she puts her hand on her stomach? because, like, same.
YES 🥺
They are so good, like everything they do is perfectly in character I just want to hug them.
