The prominent reasons held accountable for the First World War(1914-18), the rise of imperialism, the growth of Nationalism, the rapidity in Industrial revolution, arms race all these had come together precipitating to a cause for the confrontation originating in Europe. I am of the view, the imperialism started taking roots in the early days of 15 th century A.D. saw the Europeans exploring the trade via sea route riding on the efforts of Vasco-da-Gama and Columbus for popularising the sea-route. The navigation by the sea route made Portugal, France and England searching for trade into the East which afterwards lured them in transforming their dreams and establishing empires in different regions of the world. The British , French and Portuguese traders initially met with stiff resistance from the local rulers but for their tactical skill they managed to plead the rulers and got Firmans issued in their favour to trade in their kingdom. These traders in course of time won the mandate of Kings and Satraps and managed to put their representatives to the Courts of the Kings and gradually coming closer to the Kings . The Kings started reposing faith in them and allowed their interventions in administrative affairs to their pleasure. This benefited the traders establishing their fortress in Bengal , Madras and Bombay and afterwards coveting the properties of King through the infamous policy"Divide and Rule". This continued till start of 20 th Century A.D.when the people started realising and the growth of Nationalism started making headlines in the various parts of the world like India, South Africa, Burma etc. The death of Archduke Ferdinand on 28 th June rattled the Austria-Hungary believing it an Serbian plot triggered Austria-Hungary waging war with Serbia starting on 28th July which brought Russia aiding Serbia and Germany taking sides of Austria-Hungary and later on other countries joining the fray. Among the various cause that led to the First World War, I firmly hold the imperialistic attitude of Britain, France and Germany proportionately responsible in popularising to the cause of the First World War. The world would not have witnessed neither of these two wars in a period of twenty years in a century and would have seen the prosperity in science and technology of the next 50 years had the Britishers, French and Germans could have understood the relevance of Jonathan Swift treatise" The Gulliver's Travel" making mockery of the Europeans holding themselves in high esteem and treating other Europeans and non-Europeans less deserved giving rise to "Imperialistic Sense "taking toll on lives of millions through these two wars.
