I would expect there to be more signs of habitation near Alphie Springs, being that it is a good source of water. I camped out there last January, and hiked around grabbing some geocaches, but I didn't see any grinding slicks or mortars. Did you spot anything of the sort?
Definitely need to go back and spend more time there. I didn't get too much of a chance to look closely, but I agree that with a close enough look, there's probably lots to see that eludes the average gaze.
