Nice video. Our bikes were purchased in December 2020 We are a little reluctant to do the update, for fear of damaging the motor. We have two earlier S2's and have read that the motors on the earlier models are not as robust as the later productions. Something to do with the internal gears? No one has come out and said that the update will put further stress on the motor, just waiting to get a definitive answer. What we recently did was add the 10 speed gear kit. Now that is a total game changer. You now still have pedal response up to about 20-25 miles per hour. Before w/o gears, you would run out of pedal at about 10 or 15 MPH. As far as hill climbing? so far no hill even fazes the bike with a little pedal assist. So in a nutshell loosing range and possibly over stressing the motor is why I'm still reluctant to do the update. Hoping to find a blog or owners that did the update with older model 73's Hopefully not having major range of motor issues. BTW most of our riding is on flat paved surfaces, as well we just basically gently cruise down the path.
That makes sense why you haven’t updated yet. Unfortunately, you can’t go back once it’s done. I want to do more mods to the s73 like the 10speed kit but I’ve stopped doing mods since the future of PEVs are so uncertain in NYC. Since you ride mostly flat I don’t think the torque update matters as much as the 10 speed kit! Thanks for watching the video, I appreciate ya! I hope you get the info your looking for your motor!
thanks for watching and welcome to the channel Fredrick! I apologize for the delayed response. I'm finally catching up with TH-cam since work has been so insane lately! I'm glad you did the upgrade. In my opinion, it's totally worth it!
I'm so glad I bought the Spark CycleWorks Bandit instead of any of the Super 73's because it's fast coming straight from the company and I didn't have to wait for any over the air updates to get extra torque or speed.
Thanks for watching! I considered the Bandit when I was looking into e-bikes earlier this year. It was a great moped but just didn’t work in my situation. The bandit was a bit too long for my elevator and the design didn’t resonate with me as much as the RX. As a pedal assist moto inspired ebike I could do a chill commute in, I really liked the s73 because my scooter satisfies the need for speed. I would’ve probably purchased a CTY2, Bandit, or Graffiti if I didn’t have the scooter.
@@eyebahnrides The CTY2 is an excellent moped for sure that'll be great to ride around NYC. The Lyric Graffiti is definitely a better bang for your buck and even with dual batteries it's still a steal of a deal. But let's just hope that it makes it's way to the market and then we'll all know what the Graffiti is made of.
My top end has performed the same post update as it did Prior. Im 215 lbs and I get up to 31/32 mph on flat streets. Low end torq is much better for city riding and I feel much safer. What I've notice it the peddle assest torq is lower but the peddle assist power holds at the top end.
Hi Jeffrey, thanks for watching the video and chiming in. You’re absolutely spot on with your observations. The PAS is pretty weak from 0-10 but kicks in hard from 10-30. I’m planning on doing an update once I’ve had about 200 miles with the update so I can confirm a few things. The weather hasn’t been very agreeable in NYC so getting those miles in has been quite tough.
Take the same exact route as me, I noticed it in an old video. My commute consist of either bk or Manhattan and that’s the best route imo. Queensboro bridge is far more congested. Good video 🔥
Thanks Enrique, I appreciate the positive feedback! The Queens, BK, Manhattan route is a great route. Despite being longer, it's more of a pleasure to ride because there's less crap going on. Queensboro is an absolute, sh*t show because the construction has added another lay of sh*tf*ckery on top of the normal congestion. I can't wait till they repair the South road and dedicate it to the pedestrians. If you ever see me on the route, say hi!
Thanks Erock, I appreciate ya 🙏🏼! Thanks for watching. The TSG is gonna take a break for tomorrow’s crazy cold ride lol, it’s great to a certain temperature but I need the moto helmet for single digits 😅
Thanks for watching! I may do one in the future. I’m still getting to know the equipment I’m using and I want to know the ins and outs of them before doing a video. The list of things I use are in the description tho
If you take the batteries it’s manageable. I did it once and I never wanted to do it again 😅. If you really want the bike I’d get the collapsible ramp. I saw a video of a guy that had an onyx rcr and brings it up 4 floors everyday but he uses a ramp
I have my default set to class mode 4 and I'm putting off the update because I heard it resets to factory class mode, is this true? I don't want to have to pull out my phone and have to put it on class mode 4 every time I turn the bike on.
The update will force the bike to class 2 every time you turn the bike off. In my opinion, the couple of seconds it takes to change it to class 4 before the ride doesn’t bother me at all because the performance boost is worth it for the duration of my ride (20-60 minute commutes)
Great review ivan. I felt that the torque update is worth it. As a matter of fact, i havent rode my super73 for about a month and have been using my other bike which has more torque than the super73 before the update. As soon as i did the update and rode it, i felt that there was really a huge difference on take off which i prefer. Bottomline, im happy with its performance now.
Thank you for watching bossing! I'm glad to hear that you feel the same way about the torque update. I agree with you, you really feel it in the take off and on the hills.
Thanks for watching the video and welcome to the channel, I appreciate ya! I'm glad you enjoyed it because it was quite fun to do this ride. The S73 is a great cruiser and is made better with the torque update. If you're looking for a chill comfortable ride that looks good, it's the bike for you! If you need more performance, there are definitely better options out there.
Hi Phillip, thanks for watching the video and welcome to the channel. I believe they released their 2023 line up earlier this year. From what I remember, there were just a few cosmetic updates but the bikes stayed relatively the same. I know S73 is working really hard to keep their line up on the "legal side" compared to other manufacturers. I know they've also made big progress on their road legal electric motorcycle so we'll probably see more of it this year. The RX is a great bike, if your expectations are "it's an ebike with cafe racer styling".
Thanks for watching, the grizzly is a great choice too. I didn’t go with it because design didn’t work for me. Just like the way the wolf king gts performance is technically superior to the Nami for the price, I still chose the Nami for its looks and ride lol. At the end of the day, this whole hobby isn’t logical so we just gotta go with what works for us 😂
@@beausbargarage6213 I really want a z1 as well, I think they look amazing! I’m also thinks about those zooz bikes too. Just hoping to find a place I can test ride the zooz

Decided to buy my 2nd bike which was the ariel grizzly when i had an awful experience of walking my S2 uphill for half a mile. The grizzly is awesome on take off and uphill and i can easily smoke an Onyx and a Surron on take off when i hit that front motor which has some power that i have to lean forward everytime i turn it on for takeoff.
I was actually thinking of purchasing those Powerful Lithium built battery packs for the s73. However, I'm actually not spending anymore money on my bike or my scooter until I'm a bit more certain about the future of PEV's in my building and in NYC. I'm a bit worried about bans in my building because, in my building, there are a lot of folks that subscribe to the fear mongering of the local news outlets here because they have nothing better to do.
Thanks for watching! That’s a really difficult question to answer because I haven’t had a chance to try the p51. Based on stats on paper and watching reviews, everything is better with the p51. The big however is, as a smaller company they also have a smaller community and less third party support. The reason I chose s73 was because I like the design, the performance was within my expectations, and I wanted a bike with a strong community and a support network for mods. If you plan to keep the bike mostly stock, it seems the p51 is a better choice. If you plan to tweak and mod, s73 is the better choice
I got my update 2 weeks ago. I have a couple of hills that i had trouble with before the update. One hill I can only go up the hill WITHOUT pedalling at around 7 mph. Another hill I would only go up the hill with no running momentum and no pedalling at only 4 mph, . With the trorque update, Ive added 10 mph to these numbers. The first hill I can now go 17 mph uphill without pedalling and the other hill 14 mph without pedalling instead of 4 mph (its the bottom of a cul-de-sac that has a steep incline.) I also would stop in the middle of these hills and my bike still went up it from a dead start....no problem! I did lose about 1 mile of top speed. I use to be able to hit 31 mph on a regular basis on my phones GPS. With the torque update I regularly hit 30mph and occasionally 31 mph. I'll take the torque over the 1 mph! As for battery life. I did notice my battery getting depleted faster this past week, but I thought it was because of me riding in the cold weather. I didnt even consider the torque update affecting my range, but I will see when spring/summer comes along in a few months.
Thanks for watching and thank you for chiming in! That’s amazing that you’ve seen such a huge jump in performance up the hills. I would trade a few MPh for that kind of low ended torque any day. I’m looking forward to the warmer riding weather to see how the update really performs! 🙏🏼
Do you ride in Class 4 mode? I haven't gotten the update because I heard it resets to factory class mode when you update it so you have to take out your phone and change it every time you turn the bike on, is this true? Or will is stay in the class mode you have it set to even after updating it?
@@scubawithatuba you have to set it to mode 4 evereytime you boot up the bike, which is fine with me since I always ride with my phone in case of an emergency. Totally worth it for me.

Great video! I think your top speed dropped that much due to the cold weather. My S2 had the same issue when I was riding in the cold before and went back up once it was warmer. I think when its summer time the torque may even be even faster with maybe 1 mph drop-off max. Also as for the battery draining faster I think that makes sense, but all these things can be effected due to weather so I would love to see you do a follow up review in the summer! Sadly I wont be able to test mine out until then because of all the snow over here. (I literally got the update the moment the weather went to shit) Haha
Thank you for watching, I appreciate ya! You might be right because I've had mixed results with top speed on the RX in the cold but I always averaged about 31-33 mph. Post update, I saw it around 29-31 but I'm hoping to be wrong when the warmer weather comes. Also thanks for your suggestion, I'll definitely be doing a follow up on it in the summer but I'll have a heavier set of tires. I'm hoping it won't affect it much because the only reason I'm doing it is to prevent flats (ive had 2 in a week and its rough moving that bike around and getting it onto a cab with a flat!). That really sucks! I hope you'll get to experience it sooner than later. I think NYC got lucky so far by dodging a bunch of snow storms but we all know that we're bound to get hit with snow/ice eventually. Anyways, safe riding and I hope it clears up in your area soon!
Really? That's weird. It was quite noticeable for me when I recorded this video and I can definitely feel it on a daily basis when I'm keeping up with traffic during my commute.
