This game was one of my favorite i really felt sorry for Minamoto no Yoshitsune when his brother betrayed him, mostly think that this caused him to leave Japan but the truth is that when he was surrounded by his brother troops the giant men Benkei managed to hold things long enough and kill some of the troops for Yoshitsune and his mistress Shizuka to commit suicide. Shizuka had a child with Yoshitsune whoom sadly because of his brother they never met for me why i think that Minamoto no Yoritomo betrayed his brother Yoshitsune is that because he was jealous of his little brother how ever just exactly why did Yoritomo betray his younger brother Yoshitsune will always remain one of the greatest mysteries that will never ever be solved.
For helping to bring down the Taira, Yoshitsune was given a lot of rewards and title by Retired Emperor Go-Shirakawa. Yoritomo got jealous of his little bro's popularity and feared he would be overthrown. So Yoritomo betrayed him.
Surprisingly, besides the Amahagane and other exaggeration, the games story isn't too far off from written documents. Yoshitsune's brother did betray him which caused him to leave Japan. To where no one knows Gg. Genji Clan ftw! 💪🏼🔥
In real history, Yoshitsune and his wife committed suicide while Benkei held back the Minamoto Army. Prior to that, Yoshitsune and Co. hid in Hiraizumi for a time and were sheltered by Fujiwara no Hidehira and then his son Yasuhira.
So this 'historically accurate' game 'based on Japanese history' not only has giant enemy crabs, but forcefields, magic rocks, necromancy, flying bird men, portals to hell and heaven, ghosts, giant enemy albino salamander/scorpions, a giant tree/boat that shoots fireballs, an army of demons, giant demon kaiju, floating lightning blasting flowers, giant tentacle dragon monsters, and magic mirrors that send you to Hell. Seems legit.
It takes place during the Genpei War, I believe, Minamoto? Heishi? Dead giveaways. Now, as for the crabs and the other monsters, they're probably based on the Yokai from folklore.
