If I remember correctly, Invasion of the Lava King came out in 3 parts. There was a door located midway through the level that if you tried to open it, Patrick would say it looks like it can't be opened with a key and you'll need to wait until 'insert date Summer of 2011' to check. It also wouldn't work if you hadn't cleared that area's boss. Then 2 would come out, they'd add in the second half of the game, same thing there's a random door somewhere. So I think each version just added more of the game, but I also believe at some point the first version got patched with everything so I'm not sure. It was a hard game
Also, the game's were very much based on Classic 2D Zelda(most closely A Link to the Past), and had a reputation at the time for being extremely difficult, easily the hardest of all the games that actually had an ending.
Ship O Ghouls was one of my favorite flash games growing up! I love the haunting atmosphere, and not only are the stakes high in that game, but so is the ship when it reaches the surface and SpongeBob is about to get eaten! The only thing that could possible save him at that point is if the Flying Dutchman loses his dining sock! Thanks for covering that wonderful gem of a flash game!
Cards on the table, out of all the games shown in this video, Ship O’ Ghouls absolutely takes the cake for me for having some of the most banger music I’ve ever heard in a flash game. (It also severely helps how it’s in full stereo too.) Bikini Bottom Carnival’s cowboy theme seriously gives it a run for its money though. I remember hearing that as a kid and it kinda legit gave me goosebumps it’s such a genuinely wonderful melody that tune has.
12:30 Yea, that SpongeBob voice is interesting. I do think some of the samples sound somewhat like him. Squidward also has a strange voice in Dutchman's Dash and Boo or BOOM. I guess they're all from a stock sounds library? Would be interesting to find out!
From what I remember the general discourse was that 2011 was the peak year, it had been steadily getting better up to that point and steadily got worse after. Most of the super early 2000s stuff made prior to the first movie didn't age well. While Nick kept MOST of their old browser games up, the 1999, 2000, and most of the 2001 SB ones weren't and were lost for a while. (Flip or Flop and Bikini Bottom or Bust from late 2001 were the oldest ones they kept up, those were still up in the mid 2010s). Old Bronze Age Stuff from 2004-2008 was pretty fun, but tended to be shallow. Old Silver Age. The 2009-2011 period is generally considered the peak. The high score themed games were more fun, and multiple larger releases started happening, Monster Island with a new level every day and an ongoing story, Clash of Triton, a big hawking flash game with multiple levels, secrets, and difficulty modes. Legends of Bikini Bottom, a collection of 12 high score games that gradually got updated over the course of a couple months as new episodes aired and concepts based on canned episodes got released.(Several of the flash games are based on scrapped Legends episodes ideas, like an older version of Sponge-Cano involving a Tsunami from Goo Lagoon or an older version of Curse of the Hex involving Voodoo.) And Invasion of the Lava King was a full sized old school RPG with a whole new area added monthly in the summer of 2011. That right there, Summer of 2011. Best time to be a young Spongebob fan on the website, everything was there. After that things fell off quick. I've heard the discontinuation of Nick Arcade in 2011 played a part as suddenly they couldn't use the browser games as a vehicle to advertise payed games. Everything got moved over to Shockwave and Nick's cut was drastically shrunk (Clash of Triton isn't even technically a Nick Arcade game because of this. While it was originally made for it in mind, it came out 6 months after it was already gone. It ended up on Shockwave and the other sites with the Nick license, Wild Tangent and BigFish. Also, unlike every other Nick Arcade release, it got a full scale CD-Rom release, you could buy this in Walmart. Diner Dash 1 got a small run in Europe, and you can find Press release CD's of Obstacle Oddesysy 2, plus demo's on other cds of other games. Clash of Triton isn't quite a Nick Arcade game or a standard PC Game). 2012-2014 was the second silver age. Production quality was still good and there were a few gems especially near the end like Monster Island 2 or Big Adventure, but the rate plummeted. Super Brawl 3 marks the end of this. Bronze Age is the rare and sporadic releases from 2015 onward, as well as the remake of Big Adventure(which added a ton of stuff, though for various reasons the website sometimes mixes up the files between the two) and Super Brawl 4.
Fun fact, they used the same SpongeBob bowling model in the original beta of nicktoons Unite So the model they used in most of the nicktoons games is a edited version of that model
One of my favorite things about your works is the content you make is totally kid friendly but you'll slip in some great not-PG-13 references like at 13:56 and the occasional raunchy joke like at 19:33. Love your content, dude, thanks for keepin' it real!
I recently went back to play a few of these games and one that I remembered very fondly was Ship O' Ghouls. It ended being significantly harder to mash than I remembered it being, but I never noticed the candy that sometimes appears on the screen. I wasn't expecting a jumpscare in a SpongeBob game, so safe to say I was very startled lol
are you going to keep going until the present day? two uncanny, eerie spongebob flash games that scared the life out of me: Gesundheit Geyser (2009) and Love Hurts! (2009)
I love Ship O' Ghouls. Besides the amazing music, it also has a very haunting aura. Perhaps it's based on the alternative endings of Shanghaied, where SpongeBob, Squidward and Patrick get eaten. Maybe this game is an alternative to those endings too, where SpongeBob is the only one who escapes. Patrick and Squidward aren't even mentioned in this game, and the game over screen has only SpongeBob. The whole game is like a darker ending to the episode it's based on.
I don't remember much of the later Spongebob web games except bowling and the 3D Groove Movie game. I was always confused about the instructions saying you could use the arrow keys to steer the ball and thought the game was broken (on some computers it would sometimes scroll the window from left to right if it was enlarged). Turns out it does steer the ball but very minutely.
11:17 This game is great. In fact, it was actually voted as Nick's New Game of the Week of the Year 2006. For those who don't remember, it was an event where Nick released a new flash game every single week and viewers voted for which one was the best in December. 2007's winner was Nicktoons Slimeball. I can't remember 2008's winner though. I think that's when the event ended.
Could i maibe request something..? There was a strange series of point and click flashgames from Sarbakan the Name was Nightmares .. it would be so cool if you could talk about those maibe and Sarbakan also had other series like like Le Foure Aux Mysteries about a creepy carnival i never understood that game since it was french or so and they also had Good Night Mr Snoozleberg as point and click adventure series it would be amazing if you could give us those flashbacks maibe
I remember playing this one Spongebob flash game called Gas Blast, where you play as Patrick flying through a cave by farting while avoiding rocks and the Cave Dweller monsters from the Chum Caverns episode. It was a really weird game. There was also a version of the same game called Bubble Blast where Patrick is strapped to a rocket instead of farting his way out of the cave.
9:56 Nadir means the lowest point in the fortunes of a person or organization, so plankton is saying “This is the lowest point of my very small existence, I tell you! THE LOWEST POINT!”
“Ugh” was actually advertised as “SpongeBob Goes Prehistoric.” It’s one of few pre-movie episodes I remember watching the premiere of.
I blame Ship O Ghouls for my hatred of button mashing to this day. You just unlocked many childhood memories of mine, thank you.
Is BC Bowling the only Spongebob game ever released where Squog is a playable character?
It appears so

youre right
i remember you'd have to be super careful playing those games, one wrong menu button click and the entire game breaks

19:52 wow a reference to a horror game with a horrifying story in a channel that mainly talks about old cartoon flash games
17:59 Hey! You took my suggestion! Thanks! I always found it funny when SpongeBob shriveled up just because his pants fell down
I love it when you revisit SpongeBob games
Babe, wake up. LuciLilium released another Spongebob flash games video.
Awake and ready
Generic ass comment

This Is Pop must be like the SNES-era capcom of flash games
you are in fora good time with them
Ironic, considering the SpongeBob Flash game that referenced Mega Man 7 was by Sarbakan
Fun fact, they used the same SpongeBob bowling model in the original beta of nicktoons Unite

I love the 3D golfing game :DD
The Dunces and Dragons flash game is a certified hood classic.
Man I miss the 2000s, even tho I was only 3 when it ended, and this video is amazing you have to make more videos like this
4:54 I know this is a Spongebob video but seeing Mao Mao again got me excited. God I wish CN aired season 2.

I really like these videos that go over the history of the web games. I’m really excited for the next ones
He’s back at it, again. 🙂
this is definitely the era i remember the best. i was hoping that the golf game would get covered eventually and here we are.
I remember playing these games as a kid
The SpongeBob flash golden age
I feel like some of the cheats in Ship O'Ghouls was originally apart of a promotion with Kellogg's Eggo waffles/pancakes or something
I don't remember much of the later Spongebob web games except bowling and the 3D Groove Movie game. I was always confused about the instructions saying you could use the arrow keys to steer the ball and thought the game was broken (on some computers it would sometimes scroll the window from left to right if it was enlarged). I wouldn't recommend Diner Dash for those who are easily overwhelmed.
OVERCOOKED: Allow us to introduce ourselves.

I was hoping you'd cover the shrinking golfing game!

All of your videos are GAS ⛽️🔥🔥
What about blatantly unofficial ones? Games that would just slap SpongeBob's face on anything and call it a day...
Play mystery train it's a mini game collection
If you don't talk about toy barrel peril in the next video or at least the one covering 2009 I'll join the anti luci train
Polar bowler... you unlocked something in me
I remember playing it as a kid! Haven't thought about it in years!
The youtuber that makes this girl feels old again is on my feed.

What was the game where it was a SpongeBob and Patrick in a the crab kart from the movie and was in a 3d format.
That one was simply called "The Spongebob Squarepants Movie 3D Game"
spunchbop
9:56 Nadir means the lowest point in the fortunes of a person or organization, so plankton is saying “This is the lowest point of my very small existence, I tell you! THE LOWEST POINT!”
